I actually came completely unprepared and was grabbing all sorts of boxes and tape struggling to pack my item. Thankfully, the clerk Phillip was extremely kind enough to show me how to customize a box with a little trick on cutting the sides so it folds over cleanly. He stopped me from cutting up the box like a kindergartener craft project and made sure it was packed perfectly. I am really grateful to have this kind person help me on that rainy day!

Welcome to the Mendocino Coast!…read more Redwood Forests and a Beautiful Coastline! Where is Fort Bragg? Fort Bragg is a very small coastal town just to the North West of Napa. It's where the great trees of the Red Wood Forest meet the beautiful waters of the California Coast. There's nothing more to do in this town other than relax, eat and enjoy the beautiful coasts of Mendocino County. There are not many eating options but there are a few spots and a very good ice cream spot. Cowlicks and the Coast were the reasons we spent the night here. Imagine the town of Mayberry or even Walnut Grove in a beach setting. That's what you have here. A town where everyone knows each other. This is a great stop on any Pacific Coast road trip. Glass Beach is very nice beach and I rank it in my top 10 list of California beaches...not for the glass but for the beautiful coast and sunsets. I am a fan!

The "downtown" area of Fort Bragg is quite small, and this City Hall essentially marks the one end of the downtown. For those of you who do not know, downtown is essentially marked by the intermediate regions between E Redwood Ave. and E Laurel St. And the city hall is right next to Laurel. If you go during holiday seasons, make sure to take a nice selfie with the decorated City Hall!

There are still pleanty of green areas and many camping areas not affected by the fire. I go there at least 2 times a month all summer long and have never found a better place to go. I have included some directions below to help you fine the place. It is a vast place. You make the choice when you come to the fork in the road as to which way to go. Left takes you to the dam and the RV camping area. Right takes you all the way across the ridge and to the other side of the lake where there are many camping areas and also a boat ramp. Which is usefull if there is water there. I have included the Ukiah Field Office phone number so you can call to ask if the lake has any water in it. This lake is for fishing only, speedboats will not work here. Enjoy. Take plenty of drinking water along. Located about 27 miles west of Williams or 14 miles east of Clearlake Oaks on Highway 20. Turn north on Walker Ridge Road, a graded gravel road, into the recreation area. Take plenty of drinking water along.

Saint Helena is a charming town in Napa Valley with a relaxed vibe and small town feel. The…read morevineyard views in Saint Helena are absolutely stunning. Their is the historic downtown area that is full of boutique shops, wine tasting rooms, cafes, and art galleries. It's a fun place to go sipping and strolling and soak in the charm of this quaint and charming small town. There is no shortage of incredible wineries all around you. Many of them have world class wines. The views at many of the wineries are absolutely stunning as well. The town is known for their culinary scene and have incredible restaurants. Several of the wineries in Saint Helena and nearby offer food and wine pairings as well. One of my favorite restaurants there is Farmstead. If you are the outdoorsy and adventurous type, there is lots of hiking in the area. You can go hiking at Mount Saint Helena and climb to the top or hike around Robert Louis Stevenson State Park. There are just so many reasons to love the charming and beautiful town of Saint Helena in Napa Valley.

Disclaimer: This is not a spot to stop for a pee or otherwise!…read more Blink and you'll miss this roadside attraction located on the northbound side of US Hwy 101, south of Vincent Lane as you enter Laytonville. Yes, it's a toilet in a field. But learning about the history behind that toilet, at least according to some other websites, makes it all the more interesting. We pulled over because we needed to stretch our legs (not to pee) and discovered it almost by accident. It's a toilet now decorated with some graffiti and in the middle of the field across from an old workshop. The story, as we discovered, is that McCaffrey, at some forgotten date many years ago, was replacing a toilet in his house. On the spur of the moment, and for reasons no one can remember, he took the old toilet and placed it in the muddy field across from his US Highway 101 hobby shop. People found the toilet puzzling and would stop in the hobby shop to ask McCaffrey about it (He kept a "toilet journal" for visitors). They'd also walk through the muddy field to sit on the toilet while posing for photos. Over time, the toilet became better known than either McCaffrey or his business. And that's it. You'll wonder to yourself how a toilet could gain so much significance, or you may ponder the history of indoor/outdoor plumbing, or you may reexamine your concept of reality itself. Whatever the case, it's a landmark I found more interesting than your typical money-grabbing roadside tourist traps.

I love off-roading and believe you me, there is lots of that available. The Lakeport surrounding area is not a place where young people like to stay when I lived there. I keep going back a few times a year and have just returned from there and saw a lot of different business places which would appeal to the younger generation. So it looks like Lakeport is trying to attract younger people and to keep the ones which grow up there. As for me I still love it.
