In October, we lost every dime in our checking account, a total of $13,000 due to a breach in this bank's security. I had a debit card which I hadn't even activated. The card was in my possession. Over the course of several days, someone went to an atm with an obviously fraudulent card and withdrew every dime. They withdrew it in increments of $1,000. The bank's withdrawal limit is $1,000 a day. On some days they withdrew several thousand. The bank never alerted me about unusual activity, especially since my atm card was never activated. This is a major lapse in security. In my opinion, this is probably an internal network of thieves within the bank itself. How else would they have known all of our information. The bank did return the money. However, thanks to the bank's negligence, my elderly father and I experienced an undue amount of emotional distress. We are also now victims of identity theft. Popular Bank could care less about the communities they serve. They are closing our local Pitkin Avenue Branch. This branch had an outstanding caring manager, Ms. Margaret Riviera and a wonderful Personal Banker, Mr. Kevin Ferguson. They are an asset to the community and I have no idea as to what branch they will be transferred to. Because of the security breach and the closing of my branch, I will be withdrawing all of my monies from Popular Bank. If you care about your money and want it to be in a safe, secure bank, I suggest you bank elsewhere.

Communicating with your personal banker is quick and easy so your experience here varies from those with a larger bank. Calling the branch or coming through their drive through teller is easy to do as they are located directly in the center of Miami.
