I dont get why this location has three stars collectively. We are regulars here. We feel its five stars. Its my go to when I dont want to cook. They are dog friendly (patio) and the management is excellent. Dining room is always spotless. Sometimes the order line is slow... but thats due to customers not knowing what they want, not really due to staff. The food is consistently good and orders seldom wrong here. I love the staff and atmosphere at this location HOWEVER, yesterday I ordered a peach cobbler took a few bites and thought it tasted off, had my bf try it and he immediately spit it out. I ended up spending the rest of today throwing up. I don't even know how to describe the taste- like a sour/woody/smokey/rot taste. I usually don't have any issues with them. I specifically ordered Leg & Thigh with two sides, and a turkey breast SANDWICH. They didn't give me my sandwich! Instead, they gave me more Chicken. I'm upset because I was ready to eat my sandwich after a long day at work. I called and explained the situation and was told I couldn't be compensated. I'm disappointed!!!! read more

We love City BBQ! I have never had a bad meal or poor service experience. We visited once again this past weekend, sat at our usual table, and enjoyed our usual brisket sandwich, ribs and pulled pork. I love the mac and cheese and fries too, and the Original Sauce is my favorite. Cafeteria food! And not very good cafeteria food at that. Our take out order: The brisket was dried out and shredded so much it was even harder to eat. The shredded chicken reminded me of what the tuna looks like in the tub at Subway. And, I do believe it was what made all of us nauseous, bloated, stomach gurgley etc all night. Just bad. Corn bread dry and seemingly not made fresh in-house. The to go sauces (size) is a joke relative to the serving size of food we ordered. cBBQ has fallen far from what they use to be. City is not the best barbecue ever, but it's consistent, and pretty good. I like the ribs better than Ray Ray's (though I like RR's other meats better.) The sides are also very good. Baby K calls barbecue restaurants "the mac and cheese place," and they have pretty good mac. She got that, plus apple sauce and chocolate milk for a kid's meal. I got the pick two, with ribs and sausage. Comes with bread and two sides- I got baked beans (with some brisket in them) and corn pudding. Sweetie got mac, and greens. It's all good. They have a decent drink selection, with fountain drinks, truly sweet tea, and some unusual pops like Cheerwine and Weinhard's. Service was very good. Prices, well, it's barbecue, so it ain't cheap, but we got a ton and had leftovers. Handy location, plenty of parking. A patio. We'll be back. read more

What has happened to City BBQ? The food isn't as good as it used to be. They have been concentrating too much on adding things to the menu, that really don't need to be on a BBQ menu. One of my complaints--the French fries!!! They used to be tasty and home made. What is the reason to change to frozen fries? They are awful and can't be cooked to order-such as well done. It was the best side-besides the vinegar slaw that seems to be available only occasionally. How about going back to a simpler menu and HOMEMADE FRIES?!?! read more

The fries were inedible. We bought 3 and threw them out. The turkey sandwich was good. The Mac and Cheese was dry. The cake was very good. We used to buy the fries from the Gahanna location many years ago. They were so good and there were so many. They reminded us of fair fries. But we haven't been in a while and we don't know if it's this location or all the locations, but these fries were so bad and so few that we threw them away. They were dry, and they felt like they were the end of a batch. We will no longer go to City Barbeque. read more

With so many great places to eat in town, not every place can be 5 stars. Some places are just a solid three that will meet your hunger needs each time you go in- but won't set the world on fire in the process. Welcome to City Barbeque. Now don't misunderstand me- I like eating here. Honestly, if I was giving a Yelp review for the Corn Pudding alone it would be a 6 out of 5. I've had good and not as good meals here- but never a bad meal. I'm a sandwich guy- so the pulled pork is a go-to for me at any BBQ place. In a way I'll measure the place by it's pulled pork and see where it stands on the scale. Some are dry, like the last one I had, some are runny, and some have been perfect. All tasty, but no 5 of 5 (The dry one just got a LOT of sauce). Service and parking are both pluses, prices are good too- and like I said before- the corn pudding is the star attraction at all of the City Barbeque locations I've been to in town. It's just my luck I guess that the pulled pork sandwiches are inconsistent. But... I love how they decorate the locations based on the local high schools and sports teams. Great idea. The BBQ theme and rustic setting are wins for me as well. I'll give them another shot when our family chooses to go there and I'll order the usual. So this is a BBQ spot. You don't really go here for atmosphere but you do go here is you want some amazing corn pudding and ribs. The staff was friendly and listen to my needs. Also love the seasonal pickles which should just be added to the menu. Would love to see how they would handle so smoked wings. Maybe they have it and I missed it on the menu. For sure a good stop for reasonable priced BBQ. Just wish they had some hotter sauce offerings. read more

Please note this review is for the New Albany location. We did a take out from this location. Ordered brisket, half rack of ribs and some sides. Although we had requested fatty pieces of brisket, the pieces that we got were very dry and what appeared to be small trimmings, unlike thick slices. Ribs that we received were individual pieces, not a rack. Again, very dry. Peach cobbler dessert was just satisfactory.We were very disappointed with this order. We have previously ordered from the Westerville location, and liked it very much. I do not recommend the New Albany location. Go to Westerville. read more

Curbside is easy and the staff is great. *baked beans are fantastic. *1/4 chicken is juicy and flavorful *corn bread was soft and moist. *corn pudding was amazing. Negatives *brisket is very very dry. I wouldn't get it again. They were out of ribs this time which stunk because last time I had them they were surprisingly good. Absolutely delicious. Took my work group here for an employee appreciation lunch, and despite what others say, if you have working eyeballs - it is not hard to find. It's in the SW corner of the Target parking lot. Food was a little pricey, but it was absolutely delicious. I wasn't at the Grand opening, but it's fine now. We'd had problems in the past with multiple orders missing items. We decided to give them one final chance and ordered again for a family dinner of 8 people. Once again we had several missing item from our $70 order. This is totally unacceptable. The last 3 times we ordered for pickup using their mobile app, we AGAIN had multiple items missing from the order. I rechecked the order on the app and compared it to the printed receipt. Both matched up perfectly but the actual order was missing 3 side dishes and we got one side that was not ordered. City BBQ is now 0 for 3. That's a complete strike out. Never again, City BBQ. Ordered a take out brisket sandwich and when I arrived at home I discovered that my sandwich contained 3 slices of beef. I called to inquire if this was the new standard. . I was told that the sandwich is measured by weight. For years the brisket had significantly more meat. Now it is not worth the price. read more

They made a good effort. My boyfriend and I are both from Austin, TX. If you've ever had texas BBQ, this just doesn't compare on any level. Meat was dry, ribs were 1/3 of the size what you'd get in Texas, brisket was extremely dry and shaved thin. Sauce tasted like it's super sweet, hoping it doesn't have high fructose corn syrup in in. Ribs are super dry and over cooked. Pulled pork was dry and no sauce or flavor. Idk who told y'all that was Texas toast but it's not. I really wanted to love this place and the staff was super friendly but the food just wasn't worth it at all. If you do go here the best thing we tried is the corn pudding!! read more

Disappointed in the new New Albany City BBQ. The new space is fine, don't get me wrong. Just don't order the brisket. For $8.99 I was expecting 3-4 thick juicy slices, instead there were several, what I would call, "shaved" slices (think deli turkey that falls apart). By looking at it, you wouldn't know it was brisket. The peppery rub/bark totally overpowered any flavor from the shavings. The fries were hot and fresh but the salt was over the top. read more

We have been a longtime customer of City BBQ. We generally went to Gahanna location and always were satisfied and received consistent meals. Have now tried New Albany location several times for carry out and do not receive the same quality of food. The brisket we received tonight was full of fat and honestly disgusting. This has now become our experience at this location. It seems like they put the worst part of the brisket in the to go orders. Price is way too expensive for a container of fat! Hard to find! Actually at Hamilton Rd & 161. At South East area. Employees could not give directions. Grand Opening was worst I,ve ever been too. Those in line stood outside in cold and rain while line went very very slow, Very poorly organized opening. read more
