The lemonade stand was awesome-they will do custom mason jars that you can engrave what you want on them and then they have raspberries for the lemonade. This location has a hands down A+ for excellent customer service. Ordered carry out with a friend only to find out after we had gotten home already that the barbecue part was missing. Huge shout to Ashley who was so kind to not only offer a refund on our carry out order that was messed up but also to throw in two additional sides, and dessert after we decided to drive back to pick up the missing part of our order. Thier beef brisket used to be outstanding, but it just is not consistent anymore. Especially when you ask for it lean. We always get it to go. Great smoky flavor and is very tender. However, we always ask for it lean. Sometimes after driving across town we discover a significant portion of the pound purchased is fatty and I would not give it to our dog. I will miss going there, but it is worth it to drive up to Tipp City and get it at Hickory River Smokehouse. While it does not have that smoky flavor as much, it is consistently lean and about $5.00 per pound less. Also, Dorothy Lane Market (a premium supermarket) has good brisket and roast beef and if you want it lean, that is the way you get it. In conclusion, if you like a lot of fat with your brisket, City Barbeque is great, otherwise, you might want to pass. read more

We've eaten here a few times and never been too impressed. Every meat tastes the same having an overwhelming smoky flavor. They don't offer gumbo unless it's "in season" which is a real disappointment. The corn bread is what my kids like from here. The macaroni and cheese tastes like Stouffers so it's good! Probably the best BBQ you'll find in the area. I'm from the south and I KNOW good BBQ. I've never had such a consistently satisfying experience with every visit. You know you're getting good BBQ when it comes wrapped in greasy brown paper. Their beef brisket is juicy and melts in your mouth. The smoked sausage has a great snap and a fragrant smoky flavor. The pulled pork is expertly cooked. And their sides are nothing to scoff at, either. It's hard to find good hush puppies just about anywhere. But the ones at CB are to die for. And the peach cobbler is hot and sweet and delicious. But the real takeaway is the sauces. Whether it's the sweet, the hot, or the traditional, you can't possibly go wrong. Great BBQ at a reasonable price. Service is usually pretty quick and portion sizes are large. The pulled chicken, pulled pork, and chicken breast sandwiches are always great. The brisket is also good. They have a nice selection of sauces: sweet bbq, mustard bbq, a spicy bbq, and a few others. I've tried them all and love them. They have a great selection of sides, as well. The bbq baked beans are good, but sometimes the beans tend to be 'hard.' The green beans, mac n' cheese fries, and corn bread are all very good. They have good sweet tea (the real southern stuff...) and also offer a variety of bottled soft drinks. The salads are decent, but lets be honest, that's probably not why you're visiting. :) read more

Rating BBQ joints is all about geography. Depending on where you find yourself in the United States determines what kind of review one might write. So, if you're talking about a BBQ restaurant in KC, you're going to be critiquing that place against a very competitive backdrop. That being said, Ohio isn't exactly a BBQ Mecca. Save some decent BBQ in Cincinnati, you'll mostly have to settle for very average offerings. That's not to say City Barbeque isn't finger-licking worthy. With what is available in the Dayton-Columbus market, it's certainly worth your time. City Barbeque has your typical barbecue offerings - nice slow cooked meats such as beef brisket or pulled pork served either "naked" or on a bun. The sauces are decent with a good selection including their traditional, a spicy offering, and a nice mustard-based. The real experience beyond the meat is the sides of which City Barbeque has a good number of traditional offerings including amazing fries. All that said, this place isn't going to blow your mind with life-changing BBQ. It's fairly predictable in that respect. The biggest downside is the price - for just the meat you're paying $6-8 not includes sides. If you just looking to scratch your BBQ itch, City Barbeque will definitely deliver. But, if you want soul-bending meats and sauces, you'd best take a road trip to other more famous locales. read more

Wow. Finding good barbeque in Dayton is like finding a good cheesesteak outside of Philly. Color me happy. Ribs: Memphis style, meat is tender, pulls right off the bone, not too fatty, not too lean. Pulled pork: supposedly Carolina style. I've never been there, so I'll take their word for it. Brisket: Texas style, and they nailed it. meat is moist, tender, and tasty. Sausage: Pork, not beef, which is the way it should be. Pork sausage holds in the moisture, while beef lets it all drain out and ends up mealy. Plus, after the smoker, they throw the sausage on the grill to give the casing a little char. Turkey breast: I'm not a big fan of smoked turkey, but it was moist, at the very least. Sides: the greens were tasty and not bitter, the pickles are fresh and not too dill/sour/garlicky. Other sides? Please, I can only eat so much. This is one of my favorite bar-b-que places and is 1,000 times better than Eli's which I recently tried. I'm from TX and used to the best bar-b-que. I would say City Barbeque ranks as one to the top places even compared to Rudy's in TX. Their smoked chicken is delicious and always consistent, with flavorful Smokey taste and always juices -never dry. They also have great sides. read more

Yumm Yummmm.. I am in town for the weekend and told my friend I want to try some of the better BBQ around here, find it.. We ended up here for dinner last night. The food is reasonably priced with a pulled pork sandwich running about $6. The atomosphere is typical BBQ, but clean and friendly with some tv's to keep up on ESPN. Their pork was VERY good.. it comes sauceless which I'm a fan of as I like to sample different sauces. It was cooked very well, with a good chunk of bark and just a little 'pink' left. It was succulent and flavored very well with hickory smoke and other joyous flavors. Their BBQ sauces are well thought out and prepared as they compliment the BBQ. I didn't care for their sweet sauce, but I rarely do. Their Dalton Gang and Brush Fire was excellent.. Almost took some home, but remembered I have enough stuff in my fridge. Their sauces had excellent flavor with a vinegar base, great flavor. My only complaint and reason they didn't get a 5 star review was our fried dill pickle chips... The wife and I love these, but no place can seem to match how they do them back home in Indy. These were battered well, but undercooked and subsequently super greasy. Cook them a bit longer so they are crispy and let them dry out just a touch under the lamp before serving them.. then they'd be 10 x better! read more

I especially love the sweet tea. I buy a gallon to take home on every visit. The décor is fun. The wall signs are funny. I like how they offer paper towel rolls at each table and the use of a tool box at the condiment station is cute. Staff are friendly and service is timely. My wife went for takeout with a friend to City Barbecue and brought back a sampler platter, which had brisket, pulled pork, sausage and turkey, as well as side dishes of corn pudding and green beans (two of my favorites). The brisket and pulled pork were excellent, as usual, and the sausage was very good. This is by far my favorite BBQ place in Ohio. They have great food and great service. My favorite is probably their pulled pork sandwich. They have terrific hush puppies and mac n' cheese. The sweet tea offers the perfect amount of sweetness. The quality is consistent with all the other City Barbeque locations I've been to: excellent. I tried the smoked sausage today and I discovered two things: 1. The sausage is delicious. 2. The sausage comes with a side of vinegar slaw... which is perfect because then I don't need to order the slaw and I get to eat a sausage as a side to my pulled pork sandwich. This is UNBELIEVABLE but Steve, the manager, was kind enough to send to me, in the MAIL!!!, a delicious piece of their FAMOUS chocolate cake. I now live in San Diego, CA but frequented City Barbecue regularly when I lived in Kettering. I was about to lose my points that I accumulated. When I spoke to Steve, he had no problem mailing me a piece of cake. I couldn't believe it. He's the GREATEST as is all the staff. I have NEVER had a bad experience there. And this was over the top! I've had some BBQ in Dallas and I am kind of ashamed to admit, but I like this place better. I used to frequent City BBQ when I spent time in Columbus (so yes, there are several locations), so I was happy to see one near me in the Dayton area. My favorite item has to be the brisket, so moist and tender. It really falls apart in your mouth. I also like the pulled pork and smoked turkey, which they managed to keep from drying out. The ribs are a safe bet too, fall off the bone tender. Sides are pretty standard, mac and cheese, greens, baked beans, etc. Nothing to go out of your way for, but still pretty good. read more

This BBQ place was well reported in Yelp! and the reviews were accurate. Fresh, tasty and detailed food here. You'll order first as you come in the door - then take your food to the dining area. Excellent portion sizes. The fries are crispy with skin on, and the single order is enough for two people. I had the pulled pork on Texas Toast with fries and a bowl of gumbo on rice. The gumbo was more like casserole, but thick with pulled pork, sausage, celery, peppers and ocra (not really alot of rice actually). The Texas Toast was perfect to hold the sandwich together. There are sauces in squeeze bottles on the table - but take advantage of the heated sauces over by the drink machines. Better for dipping and pouring over your meats. I found a mix of the regular sauce and the Brush Fire sauce was just right. There is an awesome ice cream place right next door to settle your dinner. Just sayin' read more
