Sezanne - Half portion of a typical cheese plate

This place may be small, but it has no shortage of things to try! The lower level is a deli with a…read morewide selection of charcuterie and cheeses, while the upper floor is a small restaurant. The dishes range from €15-20 and wine glasses are ~€5. I hadn't read reviews before coming here (most are on another popular review website) so my selections were a bit off, but on my next visit, I'll have to order their charcuterie and cheese plates with proper wine pairings. They also have a selection of brunch options. I was eyeing one of their omelettes (in a style from Corsica, with an aromatic cheese in it and served with charcuterie and a side salad), but I ended up going with a slice of "Muenster Valley" meat pie, served with lettuce and carrot salads. If I could have eaten two brunches at once, I would have picked these two items, but I was very full from the meat pie, especially after starting out with half of a cheese plate. I'll have to come back to try the omelette later. The meat pie and side salads were delicious and everything tasted fresh. I really loved the way they prepared the side salads - very light, simple dressing to bring out natural flavors (I believe French produce is organic and is rich with natural flavor). The cheese plate (mine was a half portion) was very good and featured four kinds of cheeses: a soft muenster cheese, a very strong British cheese (sorry, I can't recall the name), a truffled gouda, and an earthy goat cheese. I had just gotten off a redeye and would have passed out in the restaurant if I had taken as little as a sip of wine, but if I were to have this cheese plate again, I'd definitely order a glass of wine with it. The service was very good - the staff was very patient with my French and also spoke English fluently.

After we placed our order, they brought an amuse-bouche for the table. For our starters, we ordered Les Escargots d'Alsace de Monsieur Barbisan au beurre persillé and La Salade au Munster pané de Gilbert et Magret Fumé. Les escargots were hands down the best escargots I have ever had! I'm not sure what sort of magical parsley butter they use, but good Lord, this was pure heaven! The Munster salad and smoked duck breast were good. The cheese was breaded and fried and paired well with the greens and duck. For our entrees, we ordered the Jarret de Porc braisé au Melfort, Sauce Pinot Noir, Spätzelés à la farine bio d'Alsace and La Choucroute Wistub de Danie. The pork was perfectly braised and fell off the bone with zero effort. La Choucroute was precisely what you would expect: a plat for sausages and bacon. This pork lover's plate not only lives up to our expectations but also far surpasses them! Never would I ever have expected to say such a phrase, as this is the best sauerkraurt I have ever had. With thinly shredded cabbage that wasn't too sour, it complemented the meat on this plate like they meant to do one another. Tips and tricks! Make a reservation. If none are available online, walk by and speak to them in person; they might be able to make it work.

Very rustic place to dine. Food was delicious, steak was grilled perfectly. Escargot was tasty.read more

This is, by far, the best bakery in Colmar, heck, so far, this is the best bakery within a two hour…read moredrive from Zurich! If you love Italian style deli cookies then be sure to grab a box, not a bag, a box and pick out your favorites. If you opt for a bag, you will be sorely disappointed and left wanting more. The bakery is a standard, small European bakery offering streudels, breads, pastries, eclairs, and the like. I have only had the small cookies that are sold by weight, brownie, and streudel, all of which were simply divine. It is hard for me to accurately assess pricing as I live in Zurich where everything is overpriced and don't taste nearly half as good as the offerings at this bakery. I typically get a kilo (what can I say?) of cookies and a brownie and spend around 15 euro. The women are friendly and understand enough English to allow you to pick out your own cookies that they pack up for you. The only drawback was during my last visit a very tacky U.K. family came in and started taking a ton of photos (with flash). Mind you this shop is small so I am guaranteed to be in every photo, I was thoroughly annoyed by their horrendous behavior. Closed from noon-14:00

Ok. So we should have stuck to their pastries based on the previous reviews, but we went for lunch…read more Service was generally good. Waitress was friendly. Menus did not offer an English translation which may have impacted our ordered and experience. Food came out quickly. We ordered braised pork and the baked fish. Both were poorly presented. The fish was tasteless and watery and the pork was hard to look at. The waitress even laughed a bit when she placed it in front of my wife. It was big shank with a quarter inch of slimy hide wrapped around it. Once we pried the skin off with our butter knife (no steak knives given) what lay beneath was a dark pink flesh that seemed reminiscent to what the Donners must have had for dinner in the Sierra-Nevada - except what they ate was probably cooked better and less greasy. The rice and sauerkraut were the best parts of our meal. The wine was good too. The people around us chose flatbread type pizzas and they seemed to love them. I apologize to any other restaurant to which I have given a harsh review. This was one of the worst meals I've ever had. Next time I'll stick to the pastries
