Hi Mr Van Saun, CEO Citizens Bank I can't get any help with the Citizens group about opening my business account online. I have had a pending "in review" application since last week and have heard nothing. I called yesterday as this is now urgent for me and yet, still nobody at Citizens seems to care. My phone calls end in "I'll send an email" "you'll hear back tomorrow" or even, "that is not a customer facing department" . How pathetic!!! I go to LinkedIn and see hundreds of Vice Presidents for Citizens bank and yet, they all must be in the same room just emailing each other about meetings to schedule and meetings to attend, while the customers take their money elsewhere. I can no longer go to a local branch because you've converted the convenient locations with off hours to virtual booths. Again, not technology tested nor tried, just simply rolled out to be cleaned up as you go along. Same to be said about opening business accounts online. If the technology doesn't work and is not 100% functional, put it back into beta and production. Currently, it's a complete failure. My pending application # is ae46067cca. I'm sorry to see the decline in service level and availability to consumers that Citizens bank has reached. Seems as though the customer service aspect has hit rock bottom and is now showing signs of starting to dig...... As of this writing, a $200.000,00 check that was accidentally cashed by a bank employee in one of the suburbs of the Detroit area has not been refunded to me. A self admitted mistake by the bank has put a large IRA rollover check that is for a 95 year old pastor (father-in-law) on hold somewhere and is being held by the bank. I am getting no answers to where the money is and why the money can't be returned. One banking member stated that the money is in the cloud somewhere. The issue originated when a rollover check from Fidelity was given to one of the branches in LIvonia Michigan that had a check written to a brokerage house with a FBO to Pastors name. Since the check was written in the name brokerage account, the check should of never been cashed. The bank self admits that they did not follow procedure and by policy in which a manager was to approve the transaction since this was such a large amount. I am thinking they saw the FBO (For the Benefit of) in the father-in-laws name and thought that would be ok to cash and put in his account. The money has now been with citizens for over a month and is somewhere in the citizens banking system. This money, in this case, is used as a retirement tool in which the dividends go for my father-in-law to live on. That money provides around $1000/month as income to pay bills. This money is vital due to the fact this represents life savings to a man that has not made a great deal of money over his career. The bank has some serious internal issues and unfortunately this has gone on long enough. The lower level employees at the branch level have tried to no avail. I had to call the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau in which contacted the bank and elevated to Citizens Customer Support Division. So far, no results and and no contact back now. It has been another week with no answers. I have been overly patient through great frustration with a great deal of time dealing with various people at the local level. My wife and I have spent over 80 hours so far dealing with this, not to mention all the money that we could of been making in the last month in interest that could of been supporting him during this time. Because of this, we are having to foot the bill for some of his expenses. Citizens can't figure out what to do, this supposedly to complicated for them to make restitution and will now require legal action in which I have obtained. The bank certainly have some internal issues and by the looks of it by litany of bad ratings, others feel the same, I am not alone. You can bet if the shoe was on the other foot that I would be paying the bank all exorbitant penalty fees with interest. This bank has some serious internal problems for something that shouldn't be hard to figure out. I have personal and 2 business accounts with them and because of this, I am going to make a move elsewhere. The bank is not to be trusted. Might I say that their policy of charging $12 to expedite a replacement ATM card is entirely vacated by the fact that they - without notice to me - changed the PIN number on the new ATM, rendering said ATM USELESS for the next ten days? I live on the road, lost the ATM in an unfortunate gas station event whereby the gas station pump did not return it prior to pumping gas, and I simply spaced it, and forgot to collect the old one. Citizens promptly expedited - at a FEE - a new ATM card within 24 hours, but changed the PIN number on me without telling me - rendering the new card useless. As I write this, I have thousands in my Citizen's checking and savings account, and I don't have enough cash to do laundry on the road. I can't access it. The mystery of the non-working ATM was revealed today when they sent my new (and certainly unsolicited) PIN number to the addressor the road where they expedited my new ATM card. HOW was I supposed to glean that they changed the PIN, rendering the card useless for ten days or so? People rely on their cards. If you charge to expedite an ATM card, don't change the PIN number on folks without notice! I will be collecting my $12 expediting fee from you folks. If the card that arrives tomorrow has a NEW changed PIN number, I will be suing for costs in collecting an ATM card that works. It won't be cheap. read more

The past week, today is 230630, Citizens Bank online has been down. Went to a local branch and asked the teller what is going on. Phone support is completely worthless. She said they had installed new software. "Installed new software" ? Is that code for the bank has been unable to resolve a computer hack or that the Feds are about to take over ? Who can't fix a software problem after a week ! Always thought the pant load sitting in the 'manager' office all day was uh, what's the word, marginal. I have been banking with Citizens Bank for over 15 years. I have never had an issue with any of their branches or services. This particular branch on Waterman Street is no exception. Fantastic bank tellers, bankers, and overall staff members. I am always greeted when I walk into the branch. Dylan is who usually helps me with everyday banking services. He is extremely polite and friendly. I also met with Brian for financial planning and found our meeting very helpful. I've also met with Paul for education loan refinancing and he was very friendly and helpful as well. Overall exceptional services at this Citizens Bank branch. Highly recommend it. read more

I have been doing my banking at Citizens for almost 10 years now. I have utilized several branches and the employees are always nice. The bankers at this branch always greet you or say goodbye as if you have been friends for a while. I have been a customer of Citizens Bank for years. I went to refinance my mortgage last October, 9 month's ago. I have a good income and credit rating, yet this process has been dragged out for the past 9 months due to their incompetence. They recently told me that my rate was going up, unless I paid an extension fee, because rates have since changed since I locked in. After 9 months of supplying them with every document under the sun, getting new demands every week I am done. This has been the worst mortgage experience I have ever had. I pity the foo that uses this bank. After being a loyal customer since the mere age of 16, fast forward over 9 years later, and I'm regretting ever stepping into this diabolical establishment all those years back. Damn Citizens for being my family bank, it grounded my roots as the bank to go and store all my money at. Poor customer service doesn't even explain it. This company is a laggard in innovation, has no concept of customer retainment, has numerous, extravagant fees compared to it's competitors, minimal rewards for using it's business and is just generally grimy in most locations. To elaborate - when they finally, FINALLY got down mobile check deposit (which only took another stone age to get there), I was ecstatic. Little did I know, that being the technologically-disabled beings they were, the app didn't work correctly. That is, I tried to deposit another bank-printed check (so no excuses for poor handwriting), and it was rejected a few days later. I got hit with a fee of course for the check bouncing - but as the check was a bank check (money already withdrawn from the individuals account), it's therefore impossible to bounce for lack of funds. Emailing customer service did nothing - they told me they couldn't waive it, and appreciated my business despite the mad amount of activity I've funnel through Citizens over my years. I find that they close early A LOT. Just the other day the teller gave me a calculator + made me add up all my cash + checks....and fill out a deposit slip. If I wanted to do it all myself I would have gone to the ATM...who does that? I have been with this bank for 6 years---never been treated like that before. It was very rude. I also noticed that they had the window shade down in the drive through well before the place even closed so I asked about it and the girl just laughed. Super rude. I would not recommend going to this branch...I really would not use it unless you just want to get cash from the ATM. If you want to do everything yourself, this is your kinda place. read more

Avoid doing business with this lender. I was trying to refi my rental with Citizens Bank because I was quoted a decent rate. However the loan process was insane! I provided all docs up front and every week they wanted some new. I was supposed to be clear to close with last conditions received by underwriting. Then they said they needed the rental comps from the appraiser that they sent 2 months ago and then added more conditions. This dragged on for almost 3 months and I finally called off the refi. What's a waste of time, energy, effort, and money. I will NEVER do any business with this lender again. If you are a consumer and reading this, trust me. THE WORST BANK I HAVE EVER HAD AN ACCOUNT AT! A little more then 2 weeks ago, I called this branch for a problem with my account. An associate at this branch called me back to say that they were not going to listen to my concern. I felt I had a fraudulent charge on my account & as far as this bank was concerned, it wasn't their problem. This bank wiped it's hands of me... but I was dissatisfied and I told this associate that I required that the bank manager to call me back on this issue. I was promised a call but more then 2 weeks passed without a call. I decided to go to the branch & request to speak to the regional manager. I waited patiently for 30 minutes for the only manager on duty, the assistant manager Alda F Borges. I walked up with no intention to speak further about my account at this branch. The assistant manager was hostile, I was stopped at the assistant manager's door & was not allowed to even take a seat in the office. I said I needed the contact information of the regional manager. the assistant manager said that this bank had decided that I do not need help, they were not going to allow me to contact the regional manager & they were not going to hear me further. The assistant manager then demanded I leave or else (which she then, 5 minutes later, denied having said when I asked her if I really heard her threatening me?!) At this point, I took my friend's advice & left the bank before I got angry. I called the corporate customer service number, expecting that the dedicated customer service people would be a fair & neutral party charged with providing the best possible customer service. Instead, they claimed to have called the branch who then told them that I walked in, told them about my account (I did not) & that I became hostile after they said they could not help me. The customer service representative was disruptive, made NO attempt to sort out the truth in the situation, find some middle ground or even attempt some damage control by showing any sympathy for the rude behavior I had directed at me in the bank branch. Instead this customer service representative trusted & actually sided with every word the hostile assistant bank manager told her, false as those words may have been. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO MISTREATED & THOROUGHLY OFFENDED BY A BANK BEFORE OPENING THIS ACCOUNT AT CITIZENS. I am now looking for a new bank, specifically, some place small that genuinely appreciates ALL of it's customers. I will close my account at citizens within a week... if not sooner. If your looking for a customer-orientated bank that will appreciate your business, you won't find it here. I would not recommend this bank to anyone. read more

Every time I come to this Citizens Bank I regret it. While the customer service reps are nice enough, I always have to wait at least 20 minutes to speak to one of them. They closed my branch forcing me to use more of the Mobil app. Half of the checks I try to deposit aren't comparable to the app. I go to one area branch and the driveway has sink holes and the drive up atm is broken. Tons of hidden fees that they slap you with at a moment's notice. Closing this bank account was a massive struggle. I was told by one of the bank associates that if I had a zero balance for seven days, the account would close itself. However, they continued to keep my account operational after those seven days, and then even charged me a service fee for being below the minimum balance. I definitely would not recommend this bank to someone looking to open a new account. Stick with Bank of America instead; they're across the country anyway. read more

This is the first rating of any business that I have ever submitted, but after reading the reviews here i felt it was something I absolutely had to do. I guess only the dissatisfied and disgruntled take the time to post these comments. So few of us with our busy lives have time for praise! As a recently retired professor, I DO have time now. Be assured that no one at the bank encouraged me to make this comment. I simply feel that I owe the people there my thanks. Citizens Bank at 120 Waterman Street in Providence, RI is easily the most helpful and efficient bank I've ever used. And Alda (who is unfortunately for me is no longer at the branch, having been promoted) is the most concerned and kindest banker I've ever had a relationship with. She will always go the extra mile and do it with a big smile on her face. The person who wrote the nasty reviews of her must have a serious personality problem if they find themselves in conflict with Alda. Not only is she courteous, but she has a lovely personality and gives great service to her customers. I've banked at Citizens for at least 15 years. I had an issue with an overdraw fee where I was supposed to be charged $35. I was okay with that fee, but then I was charged an additional $35... I called this branch to see what happened and the woman FELICIA made up bullshit excuses for why a second charge was made. She said she would go do some research and find out what was wrong. During her "research time" I went to another branch about a mile away and they looked at my account and told me I was right and shouldn't have been charged the extra $35. They are currently working with back-end management to fix the issue. FELICIA then called me back and continued to make up lies about my account balance at certain times, trying to make reason for the extra fees (mind you I'm looking at my account page while she talked to me and nothing was lining up). I got two things out of this experience.... Overdraft coverage is BS.... and FELICIA is a liar. read more

I was victim of a scammer. Consequently, I deposited a fraudulent check on my account and the check bounced and the bank charged me a $20 fee and closed my account. I went into the bank branch of Pawtucket to explain that I reported the scam to the police and to the Federal Trade Commission, that I was a victim and not my fault that the check was not good. A few days later, I went into the bank branch of Rochembeau, Providence, RI because I received a letter in which Citizens bank announced me that my account was closed. My bank card was also cancelled. I talked to a female employee who informed me that my account was not closed and the bank was about to send me another debit card that I would receive in the mail in a few days. So, I supposed that the bank decided to reopen my account as the result of my visit to the Pawtucket branch. I deposited online money into my bank account to pay for bills. When I got the new debit card in the mail and tried to use it, the new card did not work as it was cancelled again. I came back to the Rochembeau branch to speak with an employee as I was confused about the situation. The male employee who saw me waiting, took a disapproving look at me and walked backwards, showing his reluctance to attend me. After a few minutes, he thought better and came back to invite me into his office. During the interview, I tried to explain my problem to a employee who was talking to me in a way that made me feel like a third-class citizen. After insisting so much, he filled out an application to make a claim on my case while he was singing a tune. I never heard of the application if it went through or it was erased.The third time I went to the branch of Waterman, Providence, RI where I talked to a female employee who promised to find more about my case and call me back. I never received any call. After more than one month, my Citizens bank account was closed twice and the bank kept the money that was in my balance. I did not receive more letters or calls trying to explain me what happened, neither a check with my balance. I was subjected to a discriminatory treatment by the Citizens bank and its employees just because as a Hispanic citizen I have not the same rights as any other citizen. read more

Citizens Bank should be avoided. Their fees are numerous and high, and they use dishonest trickery to get their customers to pay more fees. My experience is instructive: I had been a good customer for six years, but because of a confluence of events, PayPal pulled money out of my account right before three checks came in to clear. That was right before a holiday, and Citizens was closing early even though the day before the holiday was not a holiday in itself (they shouldn't have done that). As a consequence, I couldn't get money into the bank to cover the checks. The checks then came in to clear in the order of smallest to largest, and I should have been charged one $39 overdraft fee; but Citizens re-ordered the withdrawals from largest to smallest so that I was charged three fees. This is what I mean by "trickery". Only the greediest banks use tricks like that to raise money from their customers. If you are looking for a bank, you would be better off at a savings bank or credit union. read more

I cannot recommend Citizens Bank to anyone who is looking for fairness in a business. They deny mortgages to LGBT couples and claim it is for other reasons. They schedule appraisals and then cancel them without bothering to call and say the application has been denied and the appraisal canceled. I would never have known if I had not called the appraiser to confirm the appointment. Please bank elsewhere if you believe in fairness. read more
