This service is free to all, although donation boxes are left unmentioned in various places.
Every one who works there is either professional or has undergone rigorous training as a volunteer. Only about one in eleven applicants are successfull in finding work here.
The CAB keeps data from cases and feeds it back to the National Associaciation Of CAB (NACAB) who then feed it to the government, Shelter, and Child Action Poverty Group etc etc. Their Social Policy work helps to inform the government.
Let me stress that any information you may leave here is never passed on with your name. One CAB is completely independent and will only confirm to another bureau whether or not a client has been there. CAB cannot be subpaenaed or give evidence against a client, except in child abuse or murder.
If you go to the CAB, and it is found that you, in fact, have broken the law, unwittingly or otherwise, no action is taken except to advise you of this, and you are free to return if you need further help.
Bureaux deal with a lot of debt, consumer law, employment law and tribunals, insurance problems, domestic law, benefits, neighbour disputes, the list is endless really.
I used to work for them and I loved it. read more
