Prior to 'half-suit' design I had random tattoos

I believe I am the only person in the history of the Citizen Ink Tattoo shop to get a half-body suit designed and tatted. Check out the photos below to see my personal transformation. So before i start i just want to put a quick disclaimer. The owner of this shop has threatened to call his lawyer on me because my reviews are considered "harassment". He even said "i have been here for years, you think one bad review will hurt me?" but is so offended over my review that he had to threaten me with a lawyer. I have called my lawyer and he even told me that it is not illegal or considered harassment to post multiple bad reviews if i have proof of it. He also said "you will never be satisfied with any work by any artist" which is funny because i was way more satisfied with the work of other artists lol. I am simply warning others on multiple websites to not go through the same thing i did. Please remember this when you are dealing with such a sketchy business owner. Ok let's begin: 1. September 2020, Piercer: I came in here to get a simple ear lobe piercing. This is not my first time getting an ear lobe piercing. At first it was comforting because the man was nice and looked like he knew what he was doing. When he did my piercing he even made a mark with a sharpie to show me where the needle would go through. I have attached ears which means the middle of the ear lobe is going to stick out instead of hang. Every professional piercer should know this. I also have a birthmark on the low part of my earlobe which for some reason he thought was the middle of my ear lobe and kept trying to pierce it there. After 4 times redrawing it, i thought he got the right spot. After a few months of healing i noticed that the placement was so bad and way too close to my face. When i told him this he said "i used my best judgment", i am sorry but if you say that and don't know exactly what you are doing you should not be doing it. I took it out and never trusted him again. 2. October 2020, Tattoo #1, Orange: So this was supposed to be my first tattoo ever, and i was really excited to have this done. I came in with my mother because she was getting a tattoo done as well. The biggest issue with my tattoo was the placement. As someone who is new to tattoos it will always be difficult to figure out if a tattoo is in the center or not. Some artists such as orange seem to take advantage of that. Now i simply wanted 3 letters done, something that took 10 mins to do. I told her i wanted it to look like ancient hebrew font and she simply did a copy and paste. She also made my tattoo crooked (Is a pattern for artists in this shop). I ended up fixing it by another artist who had more than 18 years of experience. What bothered me the most is that when i asked her if the placement was straight she kept saying yes without actually looking at it carefully. To me it looks like she was an apprentice posing as a master. 3. January, 2021, Tattoo #2, Oskar: Here is where i had the biggest issue, and frankly was very angry. Oskar did my mom's tattoo and at first i really loved the way he did it. So i trusted him to do my next one. I came in and asked for a geometric wolf head and even showed a reference. Oskar then drew it as his own design and i loved it. He told me the price would be around 800 so i told him what if we removed some detail because my budget was around 400. He took away designs that would have taken an extra 10 mins to do, just to cut the price in half. I had no problem with it at first. Later on when he placed it on my skin he made me stand up a few times, and he did the tattoo while i was laying down because it was "easier for him". Nobody does this for an inner forearm tattoo by the way. Within the next week i already noticed huge problems. One ear was longer than the other, The tattoo placement was crooked, Detail was poor, and he posted pics of it in a very bad angle which was embarrassing. I asked him to take down the picture of it and he refused. So i had to comment on the photo on his instagram saying i was not happy with how he did it. He did offer to "fix it" but at this point it was too late to fix it. There was no way to "try to fix it" as the ink was already in the skin, and the tattoo was way too crooked. I Pointed out oskar's mistakes and he got furious and refused to believe it. Of Course i was mad so i did explain that he was a horrible artist for doing this. His feelings were so hurt that i called him a bad artist, pointed out his mistakes, and asked him to take down the picture of my tattoo. He ended up blocking me because of it. Is this really who you want touching ur skin with a needle? a guy who can't admit to his own mistakes?. I even went to another artist who had over 20 years of experience to ask about it (Oskar only has 6 years of experience), and he said he could have done the same tattoo for much less and much quicker. I have seen his work and even watched him tattoo other people, so i know citizen ink was just trying to get extra money out of me. I then had to write an email to the owner explaining that i wanted a refund. I did receive the refund but this is on my skin forever.

Where the hell am I!? Is exactly what I thought when I got off the train in Sheepshead Bay, the Deep South of Brooklyn on the Q. I know I wanted a tattoo from Katya Krasnova and the place that she's located at is in a super Russian tattoo shop called Citizen Ink. There's no receptionist at this place or shop assistant. It looks like everyone just tries to help out when people come in. The shop was playing Black Metal which I liked. The art and tattoo books were outside of the traditional tattoos you see which is also a bonus. Katya was still busy with a client but all the man banter was amusing. When my turn came up, we went over the design she made for me. I said I wanted a coffin with cat sleeping on top of it. It's a little "sleep when I'm dead" style. I also love cats and am a little bit of a goth so it seems like the best first leg tattoo to have. We agreed on where it should lay and I laid on the table. It was a difficult part of the body for myself. Be prepared. I tried not looking like a total wuss in the shop but I might've failed miserably. The music also stopped at some point and all I could hear was the needle jabbing me. There was also no attempt at conversation. No distraction. We made it though and I loved it! Katya has a very distinct style and I'm happy I waited for her return to the states from European tattoo travels. I paid in cash for the difference of the deposit and tip. It got wrapped up but with the heat it didn't want to stay on. This is why I try to do the tattoos in the fall or winter. It's better for less sun and more coverage. I would highly recommend this little tattoo secret to anyone. It might help to learn a little Russian. This is definitely a rad shop for quality tattoos in NY! Don't let the train deter you!

Having a blast getting my whole leg tattoo done by Joe's free hand! The place has a great vibe. People who work there are extremely talented and chill. Also, I must say that they have a fenomenal piercer, Sylvie, who is very good and actually knows what he is doing! A few years ago I came in off the street and asked if they would cover up a 10 year old tattoo after being told no by a few other shops who "wouldn't touch other artists work." I've been a loyal customer ever since. Joe works with me to bring my basic ideas to beautiful, full life and I always get stopped in the street and ask where I got my work done. My pride and joy is the penguin cover up that Joe did in 2015. All I told him was I wanted a penguin wearing headphones. I didn't see what he came up with the two weeks and when I came back I almost cried when I saw the results. I highly recommend Citizen Ink!

I'll start by saying everyone was extremely nice and professional. I recently visited on November 9th for a small tattoo on the back of my neck. I've noticed that a lot of artists (In general) tend to downplay or oversimplify smaller tattoos which is annoying because regardless of size, you want it to be right & perfectly fit your vision. I got tattooed by a guy named Nik, who seemed to be available because I was a walk-in. We spent some time tweaking and fixing the sketch because I wanted my tattoo to be petite, skinny, & sleek giving the effect of an entire arrow when you glance at it. He told me a few times that it's but so small I can go (which I wholly disagree with because I've seen very intricate and detailed smaller tattoos done before, it's def not impossible). Anyway we do the tattoo and I am satisfied with it. Fast forward, the healing process has been very depressing for me, to the point where I almost regret getting it. This is my fourth tattoo, the other three range from small to large pieces. I have NEVER had a tattoo react this way. The tattoo does not look the same from when I first got it, & it keeps breaking out constantly *still, to present day*. It also looks old and faded. It could be some type of reaction to the ink, the artists technique, or just the area it's in. Either way, I wanted to share this because it's my first time experiencing anything like this & just in case this is not a one off situation, it may help someone else. Ive attached a picture from the shop when I got the tattoo, & pictures of the tattoo over the past few weeks. Update: added pic 5 months later. Final look

I had an amazing experience getting my first tattoo here by Anucky... she was amazing in every sense of the word. So much so that i'm leaving a yelp review lol. she was so kind and patient with me, she reassured me that we could take as much time as we needed to get the placement right and to make sure that I was comfortable with the entire process. The shop was so clean and everyone followed Covid guidelines which was really comforting to me. i've already recommended the shop to so many people and I will definitely be returning for future pieces!

Called and was able to come in the next day. Great service and very reasonable prices. Paid $140 for my tattoo. Took under an hour. Would go back forsure. *Brittany is amazing.

Let me start by saying I've had about 3 other tattoos done in other places and I'm like brownish tan skin tone, each of my other tattoos have dulled in color after peeling. BUT let me just say I recently got my tattoo at citizen ink and the color is the same vibrance since the day I got it I couldn't be any happier. Got a tattoo here on Monday and I love it. Everyone was very professional and nice. Reasonably priced. I give Citizen Ink 4 stars because although they are great, I have gotten many different aftercare instructions. The artist I saw told me to wear socks for a few days after the tattoo. This sounded odd considering my new tattoo is on my ankle so after some research I learned that I should NOT wear socks after getting the tattoo. I was also told that I should use A&D on the new piece and then learned from someone else at the shop that Aquaphor is better? A bit confusing. I have other tattoos so I pretty much knew what to expect, but if someone were getting a first tattoo here, I hope they'd be more clear with aftercare instructions and expectations. Again, the tattoo is great and everyone was really nice. I just wish there was more communication between the staff/customers regarding aftercare. read more

So I pull up right. This place closes at 9pm, it's before 7 and I'm getting a small piece done. No stress right ? Nah. As soon as I try and walk in, this guy at the door says "oh we're closed" I ain't even get 1 foot in the door. I'm like ... what ? "Oh I'm just getting a small piece-" Yeah apparently all their tattoo artists were gone for the day. I'm sorry how is a tattoo place open with no artists ? The place was empty with two workers just sitting staring at each other. Both doors open but it's "closed". He told me try again tomorrow and to "remember it's a $100 minimum". Went down the block to Cholitos and got it done beautifully for $60. Save your money y'all read more

Got my first tattoo here and absolutely in love with it! It was walk-in, called 30 min before to ask if someone is available. Karina was super patient and informative about everything, she let me took my time to see how my tattoo will look, replaced it a couple times and etc. Process was not as painful as I expected (everyone told ribs are super painful place but nah) and took just 15-20 min. Atmosphere is amazing, staff is friendly. Definitely will come back for piercing and will recommend for friends! read more

Went here a year ago for my back tattoo. Considering this piece was particularly important to me, I didn't want to go just anywhere. Citizen Ink was walking distance and highly recommended, so off I went. Soner was my artist, and he did an excellent job, even slightly altering the piece I gave him to make it even more bad ass. The tat was an armored angel, a tribute to my niece who passed. I could not have asked for a better job or a more fun place to get it done. The staff was great and I got my tattoo done in 2 hours when every place else I checked quoted 3-4 hours and higher prices. read more

I was tattooed by Joe here and had a lovely experience. He created a completely custom tattoo and was really easy to work with. The shop is a friendly, creative environment with a lot of positive energy. There is a real sense of respect for the art of tattooing here that just can't be matched at other trendy shops. I got my industrial pierced here by Yulia. She did a great job and offered me her tangerine because I was feeling light headed from not eating. A couple weeks later, I came back and she did my tattoo. She checked over the placement with me and took her time. My tattoo is literally three small words and it took her about a half an hour. She didn't rush and she was extremely sweet the whole time. I'm going to be going back again soon. Thanks Yulia! read more

I have yet to get a response when I texted 4 days ago regarding a messed up tattoo !! I'm so unsatisfied I spent $350 on a tattoo that looks NOTHING like the picture I had sent it they gave me the worst person who does tattoos and I'm so sad I've been crying for a whole month straight because it's so big and noticeable. Even when my cousin had texted the shop showing the tattoo one of the workers even questioned if citizen did it that's how horrible this tattoo is. The other sad thing is I'm not the only person who has been unsatisfied and crying over there tattoos from citizen. I understand I wouldn't be able to get all my money back but at-least $250 because this something that's on your body FOREVER & I hate it. My tattoo doesn't even look the same and the colors don't match all I asked was for some purple to be incorporated not orange green and all those other colors. This tattoo looks like somebody did it inside of their apartment. I would highly not recommend Oscar to do any tattoos. read more

They pierced my cartilage with needle. Love it! Cheap and plus they give you ring . Cartilage piercing should be done with a needle. No gun(like in a lot of places). No pain at all. Very fast. Very nice guys. I will send my friend over there . She want to do piercing as well. read more

Excellent professional service. I came with a friend for some piercings. Vlad was very attentive and warm. He explained everything and checked in with us frequently. Everything was clean and sterile, the place is very well organized and maintained. Vlad even helped with some piercing issues I had from piercings from other places. We did not have to wait. What an amazing shop, very creative, skilled and diligent. Get your prices stated upfront though cause what it says on the wall might not be correct. Charged me $600 for half day when sign says $500 but nonetheless I was satisfied and plan on coming back. read more

I got a piercing done by Neyza. She was super nice and made me feel really comfortable for a VERY uncomfortable piercing. I went in on a Tuesday afternoon so I didn't have to wait long at all, about 5 minutes for her to get everything set up. The shop is really clean and bright which is a great sign. After the piercing she explained the after care and what to look out for really well. She also gave me her # to call if I had any questions. read more

If I could give this shop 0 stars I would. I arrived for a 4pm appointment and no one in the shop acknowledged my appointment. Katya, the artist I had been corresponding with via email, finished her earlier appointment late, and then left the shop, not returning til after 4:30. After that, she handed my the flash book and told me to pick a tattoo. Through our correspondence, I had asked for a custom design. She has no recollection of this and was not even apologize for her obvious mistake. I left angry and disappointed that a tattoo I had scheduled 6 weeks earlier was not happening. Extremely unprofessional. I will not be returning to Katya or this shop. Do not come here if you are looking for a professional and friendly experience. read more

The shop was really clean nice people very professional. I only wasn't too impressed with the tattoo I received the line work wasn't clean it was very uneven and the detail wasn't that great after it healed. I went to another shop to clean up the detail that wasn't done. I wouldn't recommend this shop if they can't get script writing down without an issue could you imagine a portrait piece. Stay away !!!' warning!!!!!!!!! read more

I had planned to get a tattoo for a very long time. Before heading Citizen Ink, I had looked up various places for reviews and some sample tattoo pieces. Considering Citizen Ink is near where I lived, and I had checked out reviews and their online website, I went up to show them my design and one of the artists helped me fix it up a bit and told me a pricing. I then went out, thought about my design a bit, debated then went back. This was a casual, clean and upbeat environment. The staff was very nice. Joe then helped me with the process. It was quick and I felt that it didn't hurt as badly as I had thought. Definitely a sting every now and then since it's still in the healing process. Joe kept a friendly atmosphere, giving tips and care instructions. Definitely a good first tattoo experience. read more

My wife and I Went here and got work done twice and we love this shop. Vlad hooked me up with a colorful Octopus. My wife delt with dima and he satifisfied her girly ink needs. Absolutely love this shop! Ive been to many tattoo shops and nothing beats this one! The environment is so great, everyone is super friendly, and i always feel so welcome there. Ive had work done by 3 artists there, Soner, Dima Spider, and Joe Khan and all are such talented artists! I love all their work and each one of them is unique in their own way. Great place., really nice artists. At first I was a bit confused about what to get, but they were really patient with me and helped me decide. The place is clean, I was explained in detail about all the precautions and techniques used for sterilization, and after the tattoo was done, about tattoo care and dos n donts. The whole experience was pleasant and wasn't as painful or scary I thought it would be. Prices are on point, but good places aren't cheap so no complaints there. Overall I'd say I'd love to come back here and highly recommend to anyone going for their first tattoo or those who maybe wanna try a new tattoo place. read more

Katya Krasnova worked out of Citizen Ink when she was in town a few months ago. I was lucky enough to catch her two days before she left the US. Im not gona lie, this part of BK sucks. There are no good places to eat or bars in the area- or maybe we just never go to this part of BK so we didnt know any better. Anyway, while I waited my turn, my boyfriend decided to ger flash from Yulia. She was super nice, chatty, friendly. To be honest, I was afraid of how the tattoo would turn out, since I'm not a fan of tats on the fly, without researching the artist first. His arms are pretty much sleeved out so he didnt care- he just had the itch for one. However, the piece turned out really really really great! We both agreed that we wouldn't hesitate to come back, if we were ever in this part of BK again. Cash only and there is a bank across the street if you need to withdraw. read more

For many people that get inked, the experience is something that they'll have forever along with their ink. The studio was very clean and the artists all seemed very nice. The tattoo artist we worked with, Sasha, was very patient with all my questions and efficient. I think the whole tattoo process took 15-20 mins, honestly time felt like it flew by. At the end, the tattoo was wrapped up and we were given instructions to keep the bandage on for the next two days and then apply ointment to the area 3x/day for the next week. In and out in record time, priced fairly at $100, AND I got to do some grocery shopping too. Win win win!

His tattoo shop was located on the second floor near avenue m and utica avenue so I couldn't find it at first but once you go upstairs you are greeted with a friendly smile. The shop is very small and nothing fancy but he lets you go on the computer with him to search for the designs you want or you can email him in advance. He was really patient with me since I was picky about the size and designs but he gave me honest opinions, but even if he doesn't agree with your vision he still will do whatever you want at the end of the day. He helped me find a scorpion design that wasn't too masculine and I was able to i corporate beautiful colors into the design. Despite the fact that he did my ankle which is super painful he was really gentle and patient with me(my foot fell asleep ten times lol). He also did a good job at shading and blending colors together and he did the tattoo super fast. The needles are brand new out the package and he constantly cleaned my skin in between job. The best part is I only paid $100 for the design he is extremely reasonable, I am dying to go back for another one already. Only downsides to the place that I can see is that he doesn't take debit cards( cash only) and he works limited hours on weekends so catch him while you can. Maybe he's good at tattoos, but based off experience and the looks of his Google Reviews, he is poorly skilled at doing piercings... Similar to others here, my husband also said it was extremely painful and that he bled more than he expected to. About a day later, his nose became inflammed and the piercing disappeared into his nose... We knew something was not right so we went to another piercer for advice. This person said that it was a poorly done piercing and that any knowledgable professional would have not used such a short, curved ring on a new piercing, let alone on a male because their nose cartilage is much thicker than females. You have to use a longer bar to accomodate for swelling during the healing process. He paid $25 at Vinny's and then $38 elsewhere to get a new ring installed... Just go to someone else who knows what they are doing and is professional enough to accept criticism. If this is a common complaint by your clients, why not take measures to prevent it? Check out his Google reviews. The place looks shoddy, too. Looks like it's his shop/house.

VERY NASTY. I went there to get my nose pierced and the women who did it was very nice. I believe she's the only women that works there. I went there to get my industrial bar pierced as well. When I was there I witness the guy name Vlad who also does piercings yelling at this women who's daughter got a piercing there.. The mother took care of her daughters piercing wrong and Vlad started yelling at her and calling her stupid. That day the women who pierced my nose pierced my ear, she's great. She doesn't work there anymore. Today I went back to see if they can loosen my industrial bar balls because they were tighten too tight. I spoke to Vlad the guy who yelled at that women. He came off very nasty to me and he replied "well I'm not going to do it for free" and said he will charge me $20. To help me loosen my bar balls .. 20?! Your kidding me. As a tattoo place you expect employees to come off nicely especially if your trusting them with your body parts.. I considered this the only place I trust with piercings and tattoos but I will never go back there again. read more

This place has always been a few minutes from my house and for my birthday, I decided to give it a shot and get my first tattoo there. Now, I've been to a fair share of tattoo shops (I have quite a few piercings) and i must say, this is by far one of the coolest shops I've ever been to. Extremely clean and unique. The guys who work there are all super friendly and talkative. My tattoo was done by Soner. Came out better than I could have imagined, everyone loves it. Definitely recommend. He's an awesome dude, kept making me and my cousin laugh throughout our whole session. The prices are extremely reasonable. Couldn't ask for a better experience. 11/10 read more

Finally a good tattoo shop where i didnt just feel like a customer and felt really comfortable being there. The tattoo was done extremely well and already got me compliments from my friends. As far the shop, it was really clean and well kept, not messy like this other place I been to. The staff was friendly and I felt like they were really friendly but took their work seriously. I even got to play some playstation 3 afterwards as they got a great waiting area with more than just magazines to read. Overall I loved my experience would definitely recommend this place to my friends and anyone else looking for high quality tattoos. read more

Michael G, I normally never write reviews but I had such a great experience that I had to write one. First off the place is very clean and all the people are accommodating. They have a ton of images to look through and if you don't find something they will draw an outline out like they did for me. The only thing that was an inconvenience was they only take cash but other than that you will have no regrets. I would recommend you ask for Vladimir, as you can see I had a scar on my leg, but it was no different than any of my other tattoos with pain or being uncomfortable getting it. Its been 30 years since my last piece and these guys made it easy. I emailed in some pics of the art i wanted (An Erte) and they created the drawing perfectly. Vlad was a pleasure to coordinate with and Spider is an incredible artist who did the work. I am so happy with this piece its amazing! These guys are good. I am the owner of Inked Sanity Tattoo Shop located at 2637 W. 17th St. Brooklyn, NY 11214. I have had so many previous clients of Citizens Ink come to my shop complaining that they messed up their tattoo or body piercing. I have fixed many of these mistakes and even put more New ink on them. I would never recommend this place at all to get your tattoo or piercing done. Joe Khay gave me a great tattoo at the Phila. Tattoo Convention. I spoke to him a week before and gave him the subject matter and he came up with a terrific design for my Buffalo tattoo with Eagle Feathers.
