I know nothing about cars & seldom need to use a mechanic / repair shop, so I was looking for a…read moreplace close to Bed Stuy to take my 2007 Lexus that wasn't starting. Plenty of places in Brooklyn have lots of bad reviews, so I went with Malibu due to their lack of abundantly bad reviews. Diagnosed as a rat-chewed wiring harness. Estimated at $390 to fix, which is exactly what I paid. Bit skeptical around how much work/time was actually involved (e.g., I'm a dude who knows nothing about cars & it could have just been a loose ECM wiring plug or a single chewed wire), but at the end of the day, my car is now running perfectly & I didn't have to spend $1k+, so I don't really care how much time actually went into it. Full wiring harness replacements can be thousands of dollars. Also got a tire patched and swapped out for $20, which is cheaper than what a tire repair shop would have charged. Great communication & updates... called in the AM for drop off via tow truck & they promptly kept me updated on progress throughout the day and notified me immediately when my car was ready. Also worth noting (which is pretty reasonable) -- they charge a daily car storage fee once work is done after 24 hours. My dream of not having to deal with street sweeping for a week was unfortunately shattered pretty quickly because they were so quick. Another reason I went with Malibu is because they have a spacious workspace that can hold a lot of cars -- lots of other repair shops have 1-2 lifts in what's effectively a residential sized two car garage. Malibu has a massively sized car warehouse that can hold multiple cars being worked on, and has space for other cars around still. Entire staff is eastern euro (not sure the specific flavor), but they were friendly. I picked my car up right at closing, and got blasted with cig smoke in the garage, which felt appropriate for a car shop closing up for the day. 5/5, would come back!

As far back as I can recall, while I was in grammar school and high school, I was out making money…read more You actually needed Working Papers back then to be employed to prove that you were 16 years old, I remember them as being yellow in color and thick with corrugation. I was now eighteen, perhaps ninteen and took as many shifts at Gunral during high school into college as possible and my grades didn't suffer -- yea right, weekends were magical to me in my late teens years and I always had spending cash. Gunther and Ralph were so kind to me, treated me so we'll never uttering a harsh word not even in the heat of a moment. So when I grew on in years and life, I knew that Gunral was to be my mechanic shop of choice. Ralph with his booming voice always greeted me, put his head under the hood no matter how busy he was and told me quickly the problem and what the bill would likely be and was always spot on. Trust me when I tell you that I've bought a quite a few jalopies in my day and each one needed the occasional professional touch, not the back yard mechanic "beat it with a hammer" approach. I've recommended Gunral to people that ask if I know a mechanic in that area that is reasonable and honest and will continue to do so in full confidence.

Update: under new ownership. Idk anything about them…read more Old review: Let me first start off by saying that I have had many bad experiences with other mechanics in the area. I've been ripped off, talked down to, and sometimes leave with more problems then I originally had to begin with. I was recommended to go see "Ralph and Gunther" by a friend as they've been in business for over 40 years, and are notorious within the community. Needless to say, I was skeptical, but decided to take my car there for an inspection-- just to see if they really checked out. I talked to Ralph personally, and seemed really down to earth and honest about the business he runs, and definitely posses a plethora of knowledge about his craft. He identified an issue that arose when he scanned my vehicle, and was completely honest about it, and even told me that the problem was related to the transmission-- an area which he sends his customers to a reputable specialist. Considering that this has been something new I didn't know previously, I inquired as to what the previous mechanics did that made the code go away. Without hesitation, Ralph explained to me that it is easy to clear those codes and proceed to find alternative methods to charge unknowing customers whatever they want for an issue that was never resolved. Here, he told me the truth. Here, I came out knowing the reality of the business of auto repair, and without spending a dime extra. The experience I had here was all I could've asked for. My skepticism I had originally was completed eradicated through how thorough and honest my encounter was with a man with over 40 years of experience in the business. To that I thank Ralph dearly, and would encourage anyone else to TRUST these men here as truly look out for their customers first and foremost.
