Not sure what happened to my review from earlier today, but here I go again…read more Was here to get some fuel this morning.. I normally avoid gas stations with the city limits like I avoid the plague.. They are always at least 20 cents a gallon more than out in the burbs. But this morning was running late and didn't notice I was running low, so I made this one exception to get just enough to get back to the burbs after work. So I head inside to pay the attendant and notice that he is wearing a bright lime green shirt promoting their new discount program with Jewel. Ding! ding! I remember that I just signed up and have some credit for my Jewel purchases. So i hand the attendant/owner $10 and my Jewel discount card, but he stops me midway and states that he cannot give me the discount. What?? So i ask why, and he lamely says that the discount is only for credit purchases at the pump.. he then proceeds to tell me that he has no scanner at the counter. Wait, which one is it.. you cannot give me a discount because I am paying cash, or because you dont have a scanner?? The discount is not that big, only 5 cents per gallon, but it is the principal. I was pretty upset that the owner couldnt come up with a way to satisfy a customer. All the signage states that cash transactions should see the attendant. WTF!! I will definitely be avoiding this Shell from now on.. The owner could have come up with a better explanation for not applying the discount, as he has a scanner to scan his merchandise.. It just didnt make sense. Anywho.. Next time I will take my business to Mobil, about a block North on Pulaski..

THE STORE Entrance is on California Avenue side of the building. Upon entrance to your left, there is a cashier window for purchase of lottery tickets. There is a lottery vending machine to your right. I stop in here every once and awhile for instant lottery tickets - - they are a quick gift to put in a greeting card. Sub Station is located to the left also. The cashier window for purchase of gas and grocery items is around counter corner to left of lottery cashier. There is an assortment of items that you might usually find in a gas station convenience store beyond the cashier counter. GAS STATION There are three gas pumps. In recent years, they have been lined up in a row which makes it even more difficult to maneuver than it used to be. I forgot about this pump reconfiguration a few times and found myself wasting time trying to get my car lined up. Now I just drive four blocks south to a larger Citgo--less stressful and I probably end up saving time. If you choose to buy your gas here, I suggest you use entrance on 59th Street or the further south entrance (near the alley) if you turn in at the first entrance after 59th Street, you will be met by a gas pump! It is okay if you pump your gas on the right side of your car. If you pump your gas on the left side (like I do), you will have to maneuver around. I don't come in here too often, but when I have, the Cashiers have always been nice. Three stars is probably a bit generous because it is such a clumsy set up, but service has always been good.
