I am here right now for an upper scope (gastro procedure.)…read more On mornings when I have not had coffee, I am not a joy to be around-- but this team has been friendly, caring, and engaged with me the whole time despite my likely obnoxiousness! From the first contact in the lobby through the comforting visit from anesthesia, every person at this Cleveland Clinic location has gone above and beyond to make sure that I feel safe and confident. (I think I was in oversharing mode, so that's no small task.) Often when someone is talkative in such a setting the staff is not actually listening, but that's not the case here. I have carried with me since childhood a note in my medical history file that lists a penicillin allergy-- Karolyn (even after listening to stories of my "I was a fat kid" childhood hell) had the presence of mind to catch that detail and brought me a brochure regarding allergy testing for penicillin (it turns out many of us who have such a note don't actually know if we are allergic to penicillin.) Competence being assumed, listening is the most important skill for a medical provider. The Cleveland Clinic employee culture seems to promote this value. The woman who was with me right before the procedure and rolled my dizzy self through the snowy morning out to the the car deserves more than this anonymous shout out, but sadly I was too out of it to catch her name. (For anyone who is curious, the procedure went well.)

I was taken to Akron City from Barberton, directly to the catheter lab on Saturday night after a…read moreheart attack. The procedure was fast and efficient and used a newer procedure that was much easier on the patient. Dr Rea was very polite and professional. Even though it was after midnight when finished, they even lingered to swap war stories with me. My nurses afterwards were exceptional--Jordan and Cinda. All of the others, from the specialists to the food servers were also very friendly and professional. Although the food was ok, they could give you bigger portions though. My room was modern and clean. So, thanks for saving my life and being polite and professional at the same time. I base my rating after a similar stay at the vaunted George Washington University Hospital in DC over ten years ago. They sucked. Very badly. It's good to be back home. I almost enjoyed myself.

The entire ER experience leaves a LOT to be desired. Despite not being particularly busy, we were never made comfortable. We basically moved from waiting room to waiting room with a couple testing rooms in between. Never a bed. Never a modicum of privacy. Just a bunch of sick people of various degrees sharing a big room, and each others' embarrassing moments. I did not appreciate being privy to someone else's vomit fits from ten feet away--and it happened more than once. My wife, struggling to deal with a painful kidney stone, was never once given the opportunity to lay down or be comfortable. They stuck her in a wheelchair for over five hours, listening to people throwing up and seeing their open wounds ooze, before we were finally discharged. She was not able to rest for even one moment between the pain, pus, and puking. On the way out, it took nearly an hour to discharge. They put us in a cubicle with one chair--there were two of us. I stood up for 45 minutes and not one person offered me a seat. I will change insurances before I ever have to come back here. Shame on Summa. For a "teaching hospital," the only lesson we learned is to avoid at all costs.

They make even the most straightforward service unreasonably complicated. You will still be receiving bills from them a year after your visit. Even though your insurer provides you the exact amount you owe, it will never align with any of the CC bills because CC applies any payment to any bill in any amount and any billing date they want. You make a $50 co-pay at the time of one visit but CC spreads it across five different visits in random amounts- $1.83 here, $2.56 there, $14.85 to another one. Avoid obtaining services from CC at all costs. The level of care you receive won't ever be worth it. Akron General used to be great. Corporate greed got the best of them. CC is the worst.

Before…read moremy late father's final bill was even due, the hospital forwarded my contact information to a third-party debt collector, DCM Services, to harass his estate. My father maintained an immaculate payment history his entire life, yet this hospital chose to prematurely unleash a collection agency on a grieving family by exploiting legal loopholes. Furthermore, outsourcing billing to aggressive agencies like DCM unnecessarily inflates administrative expenses, which Cleveland Clinic passes onto other patients, driving up healthcare costs for everyone. Using a loophole to target a deceased patient's family before a bill is even past due is very shameful, and it shows that their billing department values aggressive collection tactics over basic human decency.

My visit was uncomplicated, no problems just prescription refills, out within 1/2 hour. My blood pressure was first taken with incorrect technique causing a falsely elevated result. The only other time I had high blood pressure was 1 year ago at this same office for my very 1st time, also taken with incorrect technique ( I am a RN/NP). I told the person who took it when she roomed me.She replied "The doctor will recheck it". He did it properly; it was in normal range. Why should a physician have to take extra time to get a correct BP reading? What if I had not requested it to be retaken? Someone (UNLIKELY an actual health care provider) is packing the schedule. The woman behind me left angry after waiting 1/2 hour and realized I had already been there 45 min. and was ahead of her. She said she scheduled for a different day but told it was this day when she called to confirm and cleared her schedule of all appointments. She left the office angrily loudly saying "poorly run" on her way out. Technology is useful but cold and time consuming requiring scrolling through various electronic pages instead of just viewing a chart that makes sense and communicating with the patient. Today's high tech, insurance and profit driven atmosphere has little concern for "caring", (hence it's name "health care"). My time is precious too.
