We were close enough to hear the back and forth, and it was disturbing how the one officer was just berating this poor guy, for absolutely no reason. My brother-in-law is a Superior Court Judge, he commented this will eventually end badly for the officer, specifically since the officer kept pointing to his vest camera and telling the guy and his wife they are liars, he has it on tape? All the guy was doing was walking with a cup, I expect it was beer from the Bells tent. I guess it's time for the officer to read the constitution he is sworn to uphold. Who knows, maybe he's not a sworn Officer? I trying to create a crime where there is none can only lead to a bad situation for all parties!

Mostly we…read morehave needed their help with neighbor related noise issues that we could not resolve ourselves and, during the summer, firework problems. This last summer when we called about fireworks, which our neighbors were lighting off in June and August at 3 am we were told there was nothing they could do about it, so I called and asked to speak to the community relations officer. This very polite gentleman had no answers, but he did say that the fireworks were illegal and we should just keep calling and insisting that the officers take it seriously. His exact words to me were "the squeaky wheel gets the grease". If a situation arises where we do need to contact the non emergency number for the Township we always remember that our calls are extremely NON emergency and will be placed on the bottom of the pile. Noise complaints on the scale of car accidents to assaults, just fall to the side. We have had neighbor noise issues - with neighbors who no longer live in our neighborhood - and when we called the police just never showed up at all, so we had to call again. When our house and my parents' house across the street was broken into they did respond immediately. We called at 7:45 in the morning and an officer was there in less than 15 minutes to take our report. He was helpful and sympathetic. He was honest and because we had never experienced anything like that before, he was able to tell us what to expect. When I emailed him with additional information he had requested, the officer responded almost immediately and gave me a timeline (which for me was incredibly helpful) and even a couple of tips on how to make the repairs on our house on our own instead of filing an insurance claim. They do have one woman who answers the phone who sounds like she would rather be anywhere else in the entire universe then answering the phone for dispatch because not only has she never been friendly or reassuring, but she has always been incredibly dismissive. I spoke to her once and now, Mr. MVP calls if we need to help with an issue.

This library has a higher influx of new books, including a shelf and a half of new graphic novels…read morealone, fantastic programming for all ages, and a top notch early literacy program. We have been hitting up the Portage Library daily in order to attend children's programs or play in the massive preschool room on rainy days. The story time activities are engaging and accessible. If you needs some less structured play time for your little one, bring them to the preschool room near the end of a program, and it will soon be full of little ones. The preschool reading room includes a baby board book and toy area, shelves and shelves of fantastic diverse books that reflect the population of our nation, a doll house, magnetic and puzzle play are, dinosaurs, animals, a play kitchen, hand puppet theater, green toy trucks and cars, a train table, a wire wiggle play box (what else would this even be called) and plenty of little kid and parent seating. Librarians Laura and Andrea were a delight, helping is find what we were looking for and more. When I had trouble getting a worn library key tag to scan, and a four year old next to me very excited to help check out, she let us check out at her desk with my child helping her. This meant so much to my little one, who is a massive fan of reading. Laura is a person that embraces the child's perspective and celebrates it. She made the process of leaving such a beloved place easier on this mama. As for me, I certainly enjoyed grabbing a few salty smart mysteries and feminist tomes. There is no limit on books you can borrow here. New books will have an earlier return date. There is also no limit on how much you can get out of this place. ***Accessibility: there is an elevator to the lower floor where the kids and youth areas are housed. The bathrooms and check out stations have wide, railed steps for kids to use, and they also have WV accessible sinks and stations. The preschool room was laid out with plenty of space for strollers, wheelchairs or walkers to navigate.

The library has wauved fines during the pandemic, in part because the materials have to be quarantined before they can be checked back in. Please consider wearing a mask at the library, even if you're vaccinated, because so many elderly and immunocompromised patrons rely on the library services and are at extremely high risk of COVID co-morbidities.

She cut me off before I finished my first sentence then explaining she's a federal employee which I knew that. Then here comes the supervisor just as rude as she was. Maybe even a little bit ruder. Of course there's a heckler in the back. Perhaps she didn't see the whole interaction. I also indicated that the man was rude as well. I indicated I did not understand what I had done wrong and that maybe she needed some help. The line was very long and clearly upset because of her long day. I get treated as the rude one when customer service literally went down the drain the first sentence that came out of my mouth. Then get treated like I'm a racist person when in actuality that had nothing absolutely treating anyone differently because of their race. Being in customer service I would never treat anybody in that manner the way they did.

A few different storytelling or music type groups meet. Although I was just told that 97 people attended one session and that would just be too much for me in the library to go to. This marker on the main street through downtown Marshall Michigan has a different message on each…read moreside. The marker is in excellent condition and is quite high up on the mounting post. On one side, "Until the Civil Service reforms of 1883, one became a postmaster through a federal political appointment. Thus, postmasters were usually prominent political leaders of the local community. In 1831 George Ketchum, cofounder of the city of Marshall, became this area's first postmaster. In 1833 he was followed by the Reverend John D. Pierce, who later became Michigan's first state superintendent of public instruction. Through the years a stagecoach operator, a banker, a physician, a mayor, and a newspaper publisher have served the community as postmasters." And on the other side, "Howard F. Young (1889-1934), a native of Allegan, designed this Marshall post office building in 1932. Young studied engineering at the University of Michigan and was involved in construction work in Albany, New York, Detroit, and Kalamazoo. His interest in restoring Greek Revival architecture is evident in his Marshall projects, which include the restoration of the Harold C.
