We started with one and eventually, we all ended up ordering one. They have indoor and outdoor seating and the service was excellent.

After two days we had become regulars here...I loved that I could just walk up and pop my head in the door and hear the owner in a booming loud voice..."Two Cappuccino!" With our order placed we would then go and find a table on the outdoor deck. Every table has great views of the water! I could sit here all day...this is one of the most beautiful locations for a coffee shop ever. Also everyone has to walk by the cafe in order to get to the beach, so if you like people watching, then you cold sit here for hours. The sad part is that there are plenty of tables in the morning because most Sicilians make their espresso at home and are not going to sit out and have a coffee in the morning. In fact, I think it drove my Dad mad that we would go down and pay for coffee, when we could have just have it at home. This is a family business and the owners daughter is the server here...once our order is ready she brings it out to the table. The Cappuccino's here are amazing! I mean they are really really good...dare I say one of the best we've ever had. We were sold and this place was a ritual for two weeks. Coffee, people watching and looking out at the sea...I wonder if I can just move into this table. As our week went on...people would stop and visit us at our table...we were becoming American celebrities. My uncle came down one day and bought us our coffee. The local police officer walked us home a few times...I asked him to handcuff me and then tell my Dad I was in big trouble...we had some good laughs. One morning as we were people watching we even saw my Dad go by...I invited him over and he hung out with us for a bit...it was nice and peaceful. Maybe I could convert him to join us in the morning but that was wishful thinking. In the afternoon and evening this is a great place to get some gelato or a beer. The young kids love to hang out here at night and socialize. This place has long hours and there busy time is always in the summer. If you find yourself in Marina de Modica and you need an incredible Cappuccino, then I highly recommend you pop your head in tell the owner Anthony from Chicago sent you and you want, "Two Cappuccino!" He will probably laugh and say it right back at you. Grab a table with a view of the sea and just relax because this is a slice of paradise!!!

This is the spot you have to go to where you will have no regrets. One place that is a must on your trip is Liola for a espresso, granita or some incredible Gelato (that's ice cream to you Americans)! Liola is a family run business and they are all hard workers. The owner Georgette makes all of the gelato's fresh every day...you will usually find her in the back making tiny gelato cones or amazing ice cream cakes. The tiny gelato cones are very popular and people buy them by the pound. The bad part is that once you start eating them you can not stop. Why can't our ice cream in America taste like this? I think I could live here on gelato alone. And if you are reading this there is a good chance you only speak English...so do not be shy when visiting here because Georgetta speaks great English and would love to have a conversation and show you her kitchen. I loved the tour...it was great getting to see how the gelato cakes were made. My favorite gelato that I had and I sampled most of them was the pistachio. I almost did not get it because it was green but then said, "You only live once!" Wow was I hooked. In fact, it was my favorite flavor and I could have eaten it every day. My second favorite flavor gelato was the Baci, which is chocolate and hazelnut. In past trips, Baci use to by my number one, until my summer trip to Sicily this year. Sorry Baci!!! The espresso is also amazing here to...one of the best I have ever had in Europe. There is also beer here too but I could not mix it with gelato and espresso. I also recommend you try the granita. It is like an Italian Ice but you can actually eat with out needing a shovel. When I was a kid there was one flavor...espresso and then eventually came a second flavor called lemon. I had no idea that there were advances in granita over the past few years...there was strawberry (which I loved) and many other flavors to choose from. So if you find yourself traveling through Modica, then make sure you stop by here and have a nice treat...you deserve it...your on vacation right!!!

So, on arrival, there were no outside seats available. The place was very busy. We were quickly seated inside but, then we were ignored for an unusually long time, even for Italy. Then we ordered additional wine and our meals. My wife ordered the chicken stew which turned out to be an excellent homemade olive infused slowly cooked dish with carrots and potatoes. I ordered slow cooked meatballs in Pomodoro Sauce which was served with a bit of light cream on top, also excellent. But the best part of the meal were the small crusty hot rolls provided to not miss eating ALL the wonderful sauces of our dishes. So, the food was a resounding 5 but, we had to rate the restaurant a 4 overall due to the initial experience. That said, we would gladly return but will make reservations first.
