Neapolitan born in 1985, and a relative newcomer to decades of tradition, Vitagliano has been called one of Italy's most promising young Pizzaiolos, a respect for tradition but eye towards modernity that quickly developed a following thanks to extensive research and dedication to nothing but the best Ingredients. Titling both Pizzerias 10 Diego Vitagliano, the Corso Umberto I 167 address featuring coastal views, most guests can expect to encounter a wait unless they have reservations, the line even present at 21h00 on a weekday but seating for at least one hundred guaranteeing the queue moves quickly. An ardent proponent of local-sourcing, prices ranging €6-10 an undeniable bargain for Pizzas topped in DOP Cheeses, Cilento Olive Oil and Produce grown by respected family farms, it is after navigating a collection of Fritti that Diego's famous Dough is divided into four sections including Montanara, Marinara, Daisy and Jodhpurs - or "baggy." Only offering menus in Italian, but assisted by English-fluent service, dining begins perhaps ten minutes after ordering, a ball of Black Rice first enlivening the palate with a juxtaposition of flavors ranging from salty Capers and Olives to sweet spots with Raisins. Offering whole fried Pizzas, but suggesting more variety through the "Tris di Montanarine" Appetizer, it is on top of three golden puffs that Vitagliano's trio of Sauces are ladled, the Genovese potent with Onions and arguably even better than pure Marinara or slowly-simmered Beef Ragu. Not waiting long for the main event, two ovens and five Pizzaiolos in constant motion throughout a sixty minute stay, it is atop a base of Flour from Lombardy that 10 Diego Vitagliano places an assortment of Ingredients, a process developed by the University of Bologna creating a more fiber-rich product that is nutty with good stretch and impressively light after a two-day ferment. Encircled by a raft-like cornicione, toasty but not tasting of char, the decision to request one Pie sauced and the other without came after much debate, yet no matter how one cuts or divides it both the Margherinara brightened by Piennolo Tomatoes and Cianfotta with a mélange of Vegetables were dazzling in terms of texture as well as taste.

There was a group of about 9 American girls, where Alfonso served as our chef and Italian wine sommelier. We made pistachio ravioli and also had grilled octopus and a few traditional Neapolitan dishes. We had a BLAST! Literally so much fun! After our cooking lesson, we had a wine tasting (great wines from Mt Vesuvius). Also, the decor is beautiful: scenic views of the lake and beautiful interior decor. I hope to return in the summer! Be sure to stop by for a lesson + tasting with friends!

The menu is packed full of delicious dishes which don't leave you feeling stuff. The extensive wine collection and American style bar have never failed to meet my very pick demands for drinks, and the bar staff actually knows a thing or two about the drinks and the ingredients they are using which is a refreshing experience. I average 25 euros when I visit, but I am there for at least 3 beers or a few glasses of scotch and a meal so you could visit for less. Accessibility via train is great and gives you the option of leaving the car at home. I highly recommend visiting this nice sleek location on the lake in Lucrino. You will not regret it.

The…read morebrightly colored houses and the smell of the fresh, salty sea made our experience better, however, the service was not great and the food we ordered was un-impressive. We came during lunch time, and with no signs deterring us from ordering pizza, especially with a name like "Pizzeria Fuego", we tried to order pizza and pasta, but were told that pizza is only served during dinner, unless it is the weekend, where they serve it lunch and dinner. Disappointed, but understanding, we ordered red sauce spaghetti and their pesto and muscles spaghetti along with the hummus as a starter. The hummus was laughable. Crudite was only fennel and carrot--no celery, no radish, no peppers, and put the menu description of "hummus with assorted veggies" to shame. The size of the veggies were tiny and thin. Not enough for even half of the hummus. We were tossed, literally, tossed, a paper bag of cold bread before any food was served, and had to ask for balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Servers were slouchy and looked exhausted and unenthusiastic. I understand that we are all human, but some energy and kindness goes a long way. They made me feel like I was an inconvenience and like they were having the most boring day of their entire lives. Once the pasta arrived, we realized ours was served in bowls, while the table next to us had their pasta, the exact same order as us, on plates. Ran out of the same dishes? Garnished with fried basil instead of fresh, immediately robbing the dish of flavor and lively freshness on a sunny day. Unfortunately the red sauce was practically water, though the pesto was ok. I'm not sure if salt is a forbidden ingredient, or if I just prefer my food saltier than the average person, but there was a lacking of salt in my opinion. I am a very kind person and I am always thankful and friendly to the servers and try to be positive at all times, however this experience was very unpleasant and made me feel isolated and seen as "other" simply because I'm not Italian. Unfortunately we will not be returning, nor suggesting this restaurant to the friends we know. However, I am grateful that we tried something new, and perhaps the pizza would have been fantastic if we came later in the day. No hard feelings, just disappointment.

We have ordered pizza from this place many times and have always been happy with the quality and…read moreprice, so we decided to eat at the restaurant itself with our good friends visiting from Portland ... BIG MISTAKE! My wife, who is Italian and has a home next door, made the reservation, but we (my two American friends and I) arrived 10-15 minutes before she and her mom. The server was all over us from the beginning, spotting an "opportunity" in a location that does not see many tourists. He started bringing out the big (expensive) fish from the get-go and when I asked for "un litro di vino rosso della casa" (a liter of red house wine), he instead brought out three bottles, one from Benevento (which is 40 miles away) and two from the north of Italy (neither of which are local house wines). My friend picked one of the bottles, so I kept my trap shut, knowing that a much more cost effective and equally good liter of wine was likely available. My wife and her mother soon arrived and the same pushy server insisted that we did not need menus and that he was going to recommend what we eat (in order to pump up the bill as much as possible), but I insisted on seeing a menu. Alas, there was in-fact "Vino Rosso della Casa" (€4) on the menu, but by that time it was too late as my friend had already picked one of the three much more expensive options presented. The server hovered around, not letting us have the opportunity to settle-in and have a look at the menu, so our (American) friends had already been persuaded to order what he wanted them to order. I suggested that we get some Frittura Mista (deep fried potato crocchè, mozzarella, and zeppoline) and the server insisted that we get two orders (€8 each) for 5 people, but, as I thought, we barely touched one of them. My friend also ordered Alici Fritti (€8), kinda like fried sardines, but I did not partake, so I cannot comment. Not swayed in the least by the high priced fish, I ordered my regular, a Pizza Salsiccia e Friarielli (€6.50/$7.40 - sausage and sauteed broccoli rabe) and my wife a Pizza Capricciosa (€5.50/$6.25) which were both excellent as usual. My good friend who decided to go with the fish (€20) as did my mother-in-law (€14) and his gluten-intolerant wife followed my recommendation and ordered the Salsiccia (€6) and Friarielli (€5), adding an order Roasted Potatoes (€5). Overall, the food was decent, the prices a bit higher than average for Naples, but the thing that irked me was the pushy waiter trying to make an easy buck off of the Americans. Well, his tip partially made up for it and was probably half of what he would have gotten if he simply did his job - take orders and deliver food. Oddly enough, the €8 frittura was twice as much as the ones they have usually delivered with our pizzas at my mother-in-law's house. Explain that! I will explain it ...
