I grew up outside of…read moreHouston and have a palette honed on good Mexican cuisine my whole life, or at least as authentic as you can find when most Tex-Mex establishments have to satisfy American tastes to stay open. Everything that was ordered at our table was just as good an any of the hundreds of places I've eaten in the Houston area, San Antonio, other regions in south Texas, and beyond. Their queso fundido was prepared differently from anything I've had elsewhere, to include sautéed onions and pepper, but I'm now a fan of El Patio's presentation. The only negative was that it was served with no flour tortillas, we had to ask for them separately. Any good queso fundido is served with warm flour tortillas. So do yourself a favor and order the queso fundido and ask for the tortillas to eat it with. All of the other dishes ordered by everyone in our party of five was delicious and fresh, from the beef street tacos, to the pollo San Jose, to their chili verde, all wonderful. I already know this will be a family tradition every time we come back to visit.

Being from San Diego, CA, we know what real Mexican food is. Every place we've been to has been one sad experience after another, with everyone attributing it to 'Tex-Mex'. I'm so glad Herraduras does not apply themselves to this blunder. Their food is the most authentic we have found in this area. This is a go-back place.

It would be better if the chips were warm and the salsa spicy. Both were very bland. Maybe that's the way the home crowd likes it. The menu is huge -- seven pages long. I settled on a beef and chicken fajita combo ($21.95). It came with charro beans in a tortilla soup. It was delicious. The sizzling fajitas were moist and tender, but I would have preferred a little more sear on the beef -- it had none. There's a lot more to the menu to explore.

Staying in Center during the last month of April for a work trip, Tuesday rolled around so you know…read morewhat that means. Taco Tuesdays in Center, TX; who would've thought you'd see that in this area? If this was a few years ago, I probably wouldn't have found this spot due to the horrible cell service in this time. Now that cell towers have been installed within an acceptable radius of Center, YELP can help us find spots like this. Wiht the drive thru open, I figured that was the way to order. The lady taking my order got everything to me quick so I could get back to the hotel and gobble everything down. Being on an empty stomach, I did an order of breakfast tacos (Huevos con chorizo, Papas con chorizo), a bistec Sope, traditional tacos (pastor, barbocoa, tripas), and a Pambazo which is similar to a torta but with melted cheese, using the bistec. Everything was freaking delicious. The Pambazo was larger than I expected, messy, and delicious with the charred bread, lettuce, and queso fresco stuffed inside with the bistec. The tacos (breakfast and traditional) and sope had grease, tortilla softness, and savory flavors from the bites. Price-wise, all ordered were a little over $20 which is a steal these days. No doubt I'm here again for Taco Tuesdays or any day when I'm in Center. Seems the citizens of the area cherish this spot and for good reason!
