Natalie is knowledgeable, caring, considerate, concerned, and amazingly genuine. When I started working with her, I was initially hopeful with a dash of skepticism that therapy could really help my issues. Natalie quelled all my skepticism and really helped me make some realizations.] - Me, May 2013 Now, more than 7 years later, after moving to the midwest and back, I am working with her again and she is still the best therapist I have ever met, and I've been in an out of therapy for more than 27 years... that's a lot of therapists. I went to this center for a 2 week intensive. I had done several intensives before for trauma, and…read morealways found the intensives to be profoundly helpful. In the beginning, Douglas instructed me to pay a housing deposit to the offsite sober living they worked with. I did. Douglas sent an email weeks later (1 week before my arrival) to send a deposit to a different sober living. I reached out which lead to him explaining they changed locations. When I told him I had already paid the deposit as he instructed, he then told me to call the other sober living house to try and get my money back, and also to go ahead and pay the new one. I was in the middle of a conference out of town. He called multiple times asking if I got my deposit back. I finally told him to go address it himself as I had no connection to these places and they do. Highly unprofessional. The check in at the center was strange. Alex and Douglas facilitated. Absolutely no smiles, no warmth, no welcome. Their first question was asking for your id and the remaining amount you owed. The therapist they had me with was inexperienced and insecure. I expressed to Alex that I felt he is somehow triggered by me as he is not able to connect or be present. I shared many of the things he said that showed his insecurity. I found out later he was newly licensed. Alex's response was "All his clients love him." I left after a week. Not because I am afraid to address my pain. Not because the program was too hard. I left because they had me rooming with someone who had recently been arrested for being a sexual predator. They knew his record and still roomed him with someone who was there to address being abused as a kid.... They put me with an abuser. I shared multiple times with my therapist that I felt uncomfortable. There was so much chaos and dysfunction that came from being there. It was a horrific experience. Alex offered for me to go to a different center at their cost. I shared with her the experience with Douglas and how all of it felt like a scam. I was not surprised to later find that Douglas and Alex are married. Douglas has zero licensing in health and wellness , but runs (partially owns) the center and is married to the head therapist. As someone who has been working hard on myself for over 20 years to heal and have had nothing but positive experiences in all other intensives, I say run as far as you can from The Center for Healthy Sex. Until they can present that they've done some work on themselves, can be more authentic, and operate in a professional manner, just run.
