Tostada de Pollo
Thomas S.

Just a simple little taqueria on the corner of Oakwood Ave and Meridian St. open late, which was good for us. The tacos are definitely the go to item here. The tostada are good, but they suffer from an abundance of cheese. The Papas Cajun (Cajun Potatoes) are not really the thing to get - they were a little over cooked and I think it's due to seasoning them before they went into the fryer (but I could be mistaken). The service was friendly and quick and they take your order at the table. The interior was clean but a little noisy for us to really enjoy our meal. I think we will go back for the tacos , they even have Arabe which is rare outside of Mexico.

We finally have a late night Taqueira. The price is very reasonable for the portion size. There's so much meat on the tacos and it just falls off after the initial bite. Food/Drink: (5/5) I ordered a Jamaica (Hibiscus Juice), 1 Chicken Adobado Taco, 1 Al Pastor Taco, and 1 Carnitas taco. The tacos were served with radish, lime, and cucumber. The Chicken Adobado was a little dry but paired well with the green sauce. The Al Pastor was tasty and the pineapple definitely shined. The Carnitas was juicy. I loved the green sauce here. The Jamaica wasn't super sweet, which I really enjoyed. Service: (5/5) Staff was polite and provided me a menu fairly quickly. As I was picking what I wanted, the staff was helpful and even suggested I sample some of the carnitas. Atmosphere: (5/5) The restaurant is clean, homely, and had some good music playing in the background. They mentioned that they just received a liquor license and would start serving soon. I definitely recommend coming here!

Authentic food. Good taste and friendly environment. They checked on us a few times making sure the food and everything was good. Served with red and green sauce. I prefer the green! My only feedback was it felt a little pricey.

The family and I stopped by the place as a late night spot and were completely blown away! The first thing of note is how beautifully decorated and clean the restaurant is. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was very welcoming and set the tone for the rest of the meal. We were immediately greeted by a welcoming face and they were very kind and patient, explaining things that may have been unfamiliar to us. Everyone enjoyed their meal! The Cajun potatoes were a hit for the table, definitely recommend dipping with their chipotle sauce too. We will definitely be back to try more in the future!

Amazing service. I got the burrito with the marinated pork and it was phenomenal. Tables are clean, nice atmosphere could not complain. Wound highly recommend trying this place out! Tell your friends and family, this place needs more recognition

Friendly staff very attentive. But most of all the variety of meats for their tacos are delicious . Fresh ingredients nothing frozen . 10 out of 10

All the toppings on the side, nice touch!

Stopped by after working all day in the yard outside. We got the meal for 2, and took it home. We live 5 mins away, so everything was still piping hot when we opened it. The flavor of the pork and steak was phenomenal. We also added pepper jack cheese added on top. Crushed it in silence in under ten minutes. I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for authentic cuisine!

Great new restaurant, not your old boring Mexican food. Specials every day so you never get tired of it. I had the Bistek Jarinera and it was delicious and filling. Will definitely return.

Steak/Pastor Tablita with peppers and onions and a side of Cajun potatoes.

Loved this spot. Small, clean, family run, great food, and great service. It's a small menu specializing in tacos and tablitas. The tablita was perfect for 2-3 people and was perfect with a side of peppers and onions tossed in. We'll be back for sure.

Food was delicious (I'm very picky when it comes to tacos!) The staff was amazing! This will be one of my go to places!

The restaurant is spacious and gets loud when there's a crowd. Thankfully, there's usually a place for our larger group (6 people) to be seated comfortably. Service is very nice but slow. Trivia runs for a little over an hour and both times our food has taken about 45 minutes to come out, despite our comparatively small orders. My friend who comes to trivia does like the food here (he always gets a beef chimichanga FWIW), but everyone else has now tried several different dishes and not once been satisfied or even just not unhappy. The one shining star has been the cheese dip. It really is pretty good cheese dip, lol. The first time I ordered the chipotle chicken, which is supposed to be chicken in a chipotle sauce. I was firstly surprised and disappointed to see these were small strips of chicken rather than a chicken breast. But that would've been okay...had the chipotle sauce been decent. It had no chipotle flavor and honestly mostly just tasted like sour cream. It was very weird. My parents have tried a beef burrito, beef taco, and chicken taco. They said the beef has an unpleasant metallic taste and the shredded chicken was, according to my dad, inedible. Most recently, my husband got a carne asada burrito and said it tasted so unpleasant he was concerned about whether he should even eat it. Fortunately, no ill effects came about as a result of it; he determined it was ultimately just very low quality meat with an unpleasant texture and taste. My father in law just doesn't order anything except a beer after coming for breakfast once and having a bad time there, too. On my most recent visit, I got a side of rice and beans to eat with chips and cheese dip. The rice had been cooked into sticky, mushy lumps and had no flavor. At this point, I have no idea what to order that might even come close to satisfying my palate. It's disappointing. We may be forced back due to circumstances like our availability in order for us to play our favorite game and have time together. If so, I'll continue to try different things until I can maybe someday find something that works. I want to like this place and wish I had the experience so many other reviewers have had.

I want to love this restaurant. The staff is cheerful and the bathrooms are clean (a reliable…read moreindicator). It was full, there was a troubadour singing and we were seated quickly. The menu is astonishingly diverse, with dozens and dozens of choices! But... the fajitas arrived, warm but not sizzling. My Steak Tropical arrived and both looked amazing, generous portions and then we dug in. Alas! My steak was tough and rubbery, like chewing an old shoe. The shrimp and chicken breast were utterly without flavor. I don't mean they tasted bad, I mean they had absolutely no flavor as if they were boiled and plunked on the plate. The fajitas were the same. They looked so delicious, but completely lacked aroma and flavor. Bland. How is that even possible? Both dishes were like eating movie prop food. We were hungry and ate some, but took the remainder home. We saved the uneaten portions to make into a chili here at home. Now look, this seems like a wonderful place and has a good crowd. I am a "mild spicy" guy and my wife likes "very spicy." But both of us had the same reaction; it looked great but was just bland and had none of the rich, complex flavor for which Mexican food is famous. Go, try El Vaquero. We may give it another try on another day. But last night, as wonderful as everything seemed, as sweet as our waitress was, the food just didn't satisfy.

We specifically came for margaritas during their social hour. $3 off a set list plus seasonals. There was a table card listing seasonal drinks. I specifically asked our waitress if the Christmas margarita was considered seasonal. She assured me it was, until we got our check and she said it wasn't. I'm not arguing over $6 but $26 for two watered down drinks was not a social hour deal. It's not a deal anywhere. My husband and I shared the three different empanadas gracing the social hour menu. The chicken was delicious, the beef was ok but the fish was fishy. So much so that I didn't even get to a second bite. We ordered chips, salsa and queso for the group. The chips were great - crisp and airy. The queso was good though unremarkable, the green salsa was great. The red was a tad hot for me but everyone else at the table disagreed with me. Husband and I shared the enchiladas verdes. Three chicken enchiladas were served with a plate of nearly tasteless rice. The enchiladas were dry. Even queso didn't help. I ate half of one and my husband didn't even want my second. We didn't take home the leftover enchilada. That pretty much sums them up - not even worthy of a to-go box. With tip, our check was $90. Way too much for such a mediocre meal. We just walked in the door. Hanging up our jackets, we agreed - we won't go back.

As I waited (and sadly, the wait was longer than it should have been), I enjoyed my chips and salsa. When I say that I waited, that was being generous. This wait was too long. Probably over a half hour for my tacos and gordita to arrive. When my food (finally) did arrive, I found it pretty good.
