Store owner not friendly at ALL!!! Antiques piled up like "junk". Highly recommend you shop anywhere else in Clinton! We love Clinton antique shops. This one needs to GO! read more

After seeing a post on Facebook about Clinton having a little marketplace event going on today I decided to head out there with my niece & nephew who are 8 & 9. I've never been to any of these shops in Clinton, and the first one we decided to stop at was this one. We walk in & immediately this guy "tony" looked at me like how dare I go in his store. He asked me if there was something he could help me with, when I mention that I was just looking at the moment, he gave a huge huff and didn't want me to walk by him to look at the rest of the store. He then saw my niece & nephew and very loudly & angrily, in front of other customers stated "you need to make sure you watch those children & do not allow them to touch anything". I was pretty floored because I've never had anybody call me out when my children were young, & was shocked at his horrible demeanor with children. I then stated to him "excuse me, but my niece and nephew are not in the store touching anything, & if they do touch something and break it, I have more than enough money to cover anything in the store immediately". Apparently, he didn't like a customer to put him in his place. That's when I said I was leaving. I will make sure that I never shop there again & will let everyone know to avoid this store. I heard him say that I was making a mountain out of a mole hill. No, you don't treat paying customers this way. I got out of the store and realized he had been chasing me from behind with a napkin in his hand, say & I needed to leave. A few people had seen what happened & all of them was in agreement that he is not a nice person, apparently not very well liked in downtown Clinton, & even other customer said they were not going to patronize his store. Everybody else in downtown Clinton was amazing, all the stores were so nice & accommodating. Avoid this antique store at all cost, I'm shocked he's even in business. read more

If I could give the owner of this store less than a one star, I would! The rudest store owner I've ever encountered. His greeting when we walked in "This is all antiques" Don't spend your time or money with this guy when there are so many stores with kind owners within walking distance. read more

We went to this store on a sleepy Sunday afternoon. The door was unlocked, the "open" sign was displayed and we were greeted, for lack of a better term, by the owner immediately when we went in. My wife and I are avid antique purchasers, we regularly spend THOUSANDS of dollars on antiques and we know an awful lot about the few, specific things we look for. We're not schleps but we dress comfortable when antiquing because it can often be dirty business. Oh, and we own our own business doing this exact thing. I'm not trying to sound boastful, that's just how it is. On the floor in what I thought was scrap I found four cane swords- two broken, one sawn short and a fourth in surprisingly decent shape considering it was on the floor buried under some andirons. I purchase, repair and collect exactly this type of thing. I am an avid collector of, and am always in the market to purchase these exact kinds of unique items so I pulled one at random from the pile of refuse. Even though we were actively engaging him in conversation the moment I picked one up he blurted "MAY I HELP YOU?" as if catching me in the act of doing something. He then proceeded to loudly scold me: "THOSE ARE CANE SWORDS!" like I'm some clumsy toddler reaching for the stove. (This really happened, by the way. It's at this point my wife, who is smarter than me, said "I'll be in the car" and bee-lined for the exit). I'm easily twice this mans age and, feeling slightly chided for me and just as embarrassed for him, I tried to redirect the conversation back towards a possible retail transaction. I calmly replied "I recognize that; I'm interested in your asking price" since nothing in the store had a price tag. In a random, nervously broken voice he croaked "THAT'S EBONY AND IVORY!" in answer to the question no one asked. After a brief moment of silently formulating his conclusions on my spending limits he blurted out in his oddly staccato, fractured-sentence speaking style "THEY'RE EXPENSIVE!" all the while maintaining a vocal tone which can best be compared to a rooster fired from a cannon. Really? Expensive by who's gauge, his or mine? How does he know what I consider expensive? I am familiar with the exact pieces he was selling. I know the years, the materials, the country of origin- the actual value. And Mr. Ciffone, if you're reading this, in the short time I had to inspect it, based on the tooling in the hilt design theres a good chance the piece I had seen was carved baleen and malacca quite possibly from the mid 1700's. A stunning piece of history hand-crafted before the birth of this country it was carried across the ocean by a gentleman of certain wealth and station. Obviously cherished, it survived the American Revolution, the Civil War, World Wars 1 and 2, the Great Depression and was probably passed down from generation to generation eventually outliving an entire family's name only to wind up discarded on the floor of your dirty little shop. Never mind it's intrinsic value, you decided to store it under a pile of scrap metal like some disposable plastic toy thus destroying what could very well be an irreplaceable, three-centuries-old bespoke piece of art like some kinda first year rookie. But what would I know, right? Stick with "ebony and ivory" and I'll offer you $20 bucks for the bunch, little fella. Now you can run off and go buy yourself some Stevie Wonder on 45. Honestly, given the sorry state of how he treated and stored the pieces I can state with certainty the ONLY person in the room who knew the actual value was the person suddenly rendered uninterested in purchasing them. So, as opposed to rescuing a sleepy Sunday with a four-digit sale he instead chose to treat us like we were homeless people asking for the restroom. And since he has no price tags on anything one can only wonder if his prices change based on his assessment of your appearance, character, perceived intelligence or gender. Or skin color. I can't state this as fact, of course, because I don't know the man personally. But based on the treatment we received I can only assume he is very particular about his guests fitting into a equally particular set of parameters. The conclusion? There is absolutely no reason why your money should find its way to his pocket if YOU are not welcome in his store. Spend it elsewhere. This man has earned none of your business. this guy is a total and I mean total ass . after reading the review of Michael N. it we be redundant of me to post it . I'm a 56 year old man from Ohio , visiting my 76 year old mother . We also dress casual but not destitute looking , and certainly my mother is always dressed smartly and looking good . We went downtown having a great time on 10/23/2020 beautiful day . made a couple purchases , then met the ass of the century , no mask to boot . almost to a tee exactly treated the same as Michael N . Did not even go in told him I would shop elsewhere . he said good . We then went across the street to historical Clinton antiques . They were awesome , apologized for him when it had nothing to do with them . Then she knocked 5 dollars off my purchase without me even asking . Jane and her husband are a class act. read more
