Granny's Attic has a lot of merchandise--some quality, some not. My biggest complaint with this vendor is that when I went in, I was waited on by a young man who owns the store across the street--he was at Granny's Attic bumming some coffee off of the owners. The owners allowed him to wait on me instead of waiting on me themselves (the piece I wanted was in the basement).
I arrived at the store with a certain amount I was willing to spend. I offered the owners the price & said I understood if they could not come down that much, but that was all I was willing to pay. As I was discussing price with the owners, he butted in and was very rude and insulting to me.
Although this was appalling, the disappointing thing about the encounter was that the owners (who witnessed the exchange) did NOTHING to temper the young man's tongue--they simply looked on. I called back later to voice my dismay and the owner agreed he was rude and out of line. However, her defense was that the young man was not in her employ and that she didn't condone his words.
I do not doubt that she condemned his words. But if one is going to be a business owner, one must have the courage to step up when someone is being treated poorly, especially by someone who mimics an employee. This is more than just good business, it's a basic part of life--silence is acceptance. AND, as someone who has two degrees (one in business), a great job, and has passed the CPA exam, I have the qualifications to consult on what good business practices look like.
I suspect the young man is trying to take advantage of the owners in some way or trying to weasel his way into their business. Anyway, if the true employees/owners wait on you, you'll probably have a good experience. If not, proceed at your own risk--the owners certainly won't step up in your defense! DEFINITELY proceed with caution if you're considering going to go to one of the businesses across the street!!! read more
