We had barszcz with mushroom dumplings, which was too salty and dumplings were light on mushrooms, and the "ucha" fish soup, which was probably the best dish of the night. Nicely flavored, with excellent fish dumplings and a nice note of dill. Also too salty for our palates, but the provided sour cream cut the saltiness nicely. For our second courses, we had the sturgeon poached in white wine and vegetables, and the elk shank with mushroom sauce. The sturgeon was a little overcooked, starting to trend towards mushy. And again, lots of salt. The elk shank was too dry, with the mushroom sauce doing a little bit to alleviate that. The sauce was too salty. For sides we had the kopytka, which were tasty, and the potatoes a la Pushkin, which were (you guessed it) too salty as well. We split a bottle of the Georgian Saperavi that they had on their wine list, which wasn't bad. For dessert we had their tea with home-made preserves, which was excellent. The tea had a great, robust flavor and the cherry preserves accented that beautifully. Service was good, if a little on the slow side.

Authentic pierogi? Yes, please…read more There are any number of places in Poland in which to get good pierogi - and as much as I'd love the opportunity to try them all, this is the place where we landed today. It's a cozy and very colorful place, with wonderful aromas and old world charm. The service is, well, decidedly European - you can't be in a rush when you get here, and being all "American" about it won't get your food on the table any faster. I've been living in Spain for eight years now and I find table service to be quite a bit slower than in the US. Then again, they aren't chasing you out of the restaurant when you finish eating, either - they give you plenty of time to just chat with your mates and enjoy another round. As for the pierogi? I would GLADLY come back here!

Restauracja Błękitny Pudel - jedzenie bardzo smaczne, ale obsługa to absolutna tragedia, najgorsza,…read morejakiej kiedykolwiek doświadczyłam. Przyjechałam z moim narzeczonym i jego najbliższą rodziną, aby pokazać im kawałek Polski. Zamówiliśmy wodę, kilka drinków alkoholowych i naprawdę sporo jedzenia - m.in. sałatki Cezar, żurek, rosół, burgery i pierogi. Błękitny Pudel Restaurant - the food was very tasty, but the service was an absolute disaster, the worst I have ever experienced. I came with my fiancé and his close family to show them a bit of Poland. We ordered water, several alcoholic drinks, and quite a lot of food - including Caesar salads, żurek, chicken soup, burgers, and pierogi. Our waitress (let's call her "Duck" - because it seemed like she had a bit too much filler in her lips) took our order... and then completely disappeared. We received neither water nor drinks from her. I had to ask other staff members to bring anything to our table at all. When placing our order, we specifically asked for all the dishes to be served together. About half an hour later, food began arriving - but only for half the table. The other half was still waiting. Those who got their food first had finished eating while the rest were still empty-handed. During all this time, the waitress never once came to check on our table. Eventually, annoyed, I asked another waitress to find out what was happening with the rest of our order. It turned out that, at that exact moment, "Duck" was heading out for her break. She didn't approach us, didn't apologize - just waved to the other waitress and went off into town. When we asked for the manager, we were told... there simply wasn't one. In summary - the kitchen is genuinely good, but the service is terrible, disorganized, and shows complete disregard for guests.

This place presents me with some challenges to be fair in my review…read more I don't have enough polish (almost none) to engage with the locals and I'm totally ignorant of the society and its norms. So first things first, it was the halibut in chanterelle sauce at about a tenner that really attracted my interest. My wife opted for the salmon main with chips, which she enjoyed. So my first problem arose when the wait staff took quite a long time to bring the menu to us in an almost empty restaurant at lunchtime and there were no pleasantries nor smiles when, after far too long, a waitress eventually brought the menus. Yes it may be societal but this place was unique in our dining in Poland as everyone else at least was friendly - I bang on about this. When you dine out and pay over your hard-earned it's the hospitality industry - so being hospitable isn't just a clue but it's expected and frankly courtesy and a smile costs nothing. So when the food eventually arrived I was given the wrong dish - it was supposed to go to the next table and quite literally I was just about to take my first bite when the fuss stopped me. So once I got my halibut it was a delight. The fish was beautiful and really tasty. Five star alone and properly cooked. The chanterelle sauce too was excellent, again five star alone but I got about two tablespoons of sauce, far to small a portion. The plate had a vivid ghostbuster green oil that well out portioned the chanterelle sauce yet this gunge wasn't even mentioned on the menu. Now what was totally unacceptable was that the plate was stone cold. The chanterelle sauce was cold. The mashed potato was also cold and the barely warm fish cooled very fast too. This is zero star. Restaurants should never put hot food unto stone cold plates. In addition to being stone cold the potato mash was utterly and truly horrible. Waxy potatoes with the consistency of wallpaper paste rather than buttery floury potatoes. Waxy potatoes might work roasted or in potato salads but used as a mash they were truly awful. They may have been slightly better tasting had they been served hot but I wouldn't take them again free. I wouldn't conceive of returning here. The cappuccino was very good though. It's a borderline three stars but I believe I'm being generous.

My pick was the "Trio Mix," which came with herring salad, shredded cabbage, and tzatziki, topped off with bean sprouts, scallions, red currants, and leaves of endive. This was an incredible combination of ingredients, from the refreshing tzatziki to the briney herring to the crunchy cabbage and toppings! But I was an even bigger fan of the jacket potato with Bialowieza-style chanterelles, which came with an unbelievably huge portion of mushrooms cooked in a dill and cream sauce. The meaty mushrooms had so much umami flavor, and the cream sauce paired perfectly with the starchy potato. I also added the caper sauce, made with yogurt, mayo, capers, anchovies, and dill, which brought out the flavors even more. On the side, we also got orders of shredded cabbage, shredded beets, and sauerkraut, which made for refreshing side dishes.

The prices are very decent, considering the location. However, after sitting down it turned out that the waitresses (no exception here) were unfriendly and slow. The food took 50 minutes to be served and none of the waitresses ask for second rounds of drinks. Moreover, asking for another drink ends up with rolling eyes from the waitress. The drinks took a solid 15 minutes before they arrived. As for the food, it wasn't that good. It was served lukewarm and didn't have the tastiness I expected after seeing the menu. Definitely not going here again.
