I was promptly greeted by a female employee when I first walked in. I was interested in buying Chinese Yuan (Renminbi) for my trip to Shanghai. She advised that someone at the counter would be able to help me. Well, I spoke to another woman at the counter. She advised that it would take three days to order what I need. She was also not that helpful in telling me to go downtown and try the main branch. I'm in Etobicoke and I live in Markham. The main branch downtown would be closed as it was well past 18:00 and she had no way to look into the system to tell me whether this trip would be worthwhile. This experience does make me want to switch to another bank. TD Canada Trust employees can look into their system and tell you which branch has what currencies available. The problem is that I do not have an account with that bank. I would likely get dinged a bit for that fact. Anyway, I thanked both women, although I came out empty-handed. I will just make sure that I order the currency that I want at least a week before I depart. The drive-thru is oddly set up at this branch. The lanes leaving and entering the drive-thru ATM are extremely narrow. There are a decent number of parking spaces in the lot. (343)

I have been here mostly for the ATM use but once went inside to get a demand draft out. The lady…read morewas quite rude and didn't really understand what we wanted. And then when we finally explained to her a couple of times, she got ready to get the DD out. While I am okay with people not really being friendly but then they ought to be good at their work. This lady, even after writing down the name of the organization clearly on a paper made a mistake and had to redo the DD, but instead of apologizing for her mistake she gave a disgusted look as if we made the mistake. The second time, she again made a mistake in the name at a different place and had to redo the work. This time when we highlighted her mistake, instead of correcting it right away (let alone apologizing), she blamed it on us that we wrote the name that way. When she pulled out the paper on which we had mentioned the name, it was mentioned correctly and she was caught right there. She had to redo the DD again and luckily this time she got it right. While I do understand people having a bad morning and not really in a friendly mood but this was an honesty and integrity issue. You make a mistake - it's okay, it happens sometimes, we are all human beings. It's also okay that you don't apologize to the customer but then you just correct it the next time - not the end of the world. But it's not okay to not owning up to your mistake, and instead blame the customer for it. Never going to this place again.

CIBC - Nobody is at the kiosk today. Luckily, I got my funds using the ATM.

The customer service at this CIBC has deteriorated since I last dealt with a human here. It's a…read moreshame. I actually came to use the ATM. I wanted to withdraw $20 USD for parking at the Wild game. Without letting me know on the screen which currency would be dispensed, it gave me $20 CAD. I explained my situation to the CIBC employee who was on staff. She said that the minimum was $60 USD to withdraw from the machine. I didn't see that anywhere. I asked if she could help me deposit my CAD back into my account. She directed me to the currency exchange across from CIBC. Not good. Is that the norm? I confronted her. I asked if she could help me. She asked whether I wanted CAD to spend here. Her listening skills were horrible. I'm in a US terminal flying out. I said they I needed USD funds. She became defensive and stuck to her tagline that the minimum withdrawal was $60 USD and that I was being unreasonable. She then turned the tables on me and said that she was helping me. How? She never said that she could help deposit my money back into my account. I told her to forget it. That was when she said that she would break protocol and do it for me. What? Out of the goodness of your cold, steel heart? You know what, woman? You missed your window of opportunity. Perhaps working on your customer service skills by helping a traveller and CIBC customer out should have been your focus, rather than saying, "Too late." Your holier-than-thou attitude wasn't helpful. Luckily, I can withdraw funds at an ATM in the States at another bank without any fees, so I'm okay. I really liked coming to this CIBC, as it was convenient while waiting to board my flight. Sadly, when a problem arose from a customer at this location, this person at CIBC failed miserably at addressing a solution. (91)

Convenient as a traveler if you need some last minute currency exchange for emergency cash on hand. But you would not be happy with the exchange rate, which is higher than if you charge your foreign purchase on their credit cards even with the 2.5% extra. If you are a CIBC customer, you can do a debit from your account towards the foreign cash you purchasing. I would just purchase what necessary but not more. Staff is friendly and eager to help!
