Their sandwiches are fantastic! The choices are endless and all ingredients are fresh and yummy. All sandwiches are made to order so no need to fear for a soggy bread roll. Also their coffee is of good quality and so are their salads that are popular among the hungry businessmen and -women who come here for lunch. I like to come here for a late breakfast or brunch, or to just grab a sandwich on the go when in a hurry.

It's a gathering spot for several people, which is where I was heading after getting some breakfast. Cafe Engel is open all day, but for the earliest part of the day, they have breakfast, along with coffee and tea and pastries. I ordered a drip coffee and a cinnamon bun, which is a must have pastry anywhere in the Nordic world. And this one here at Cafe Engel was solid, and I liked that it was warm, making it extra tasty. For drip coffee, it's unlimited, which you can pour yourself. The cafe itself is a charming space, with many tables and chairs. When I visited, all of the tables by the windows were taken, which are the best spots because they look out to Senate Square. The staff were very nice, and it's the kind of place where you order at the counter and staff brings you your order at the table of your choosing. Casual and welcoming.

People casually came and went, enjoying a chat, or a book...a very good vibe indeed. First off, let me say -- Helsinki as a whole knows their smoothies and juices. Whoa! Heaven for you fruit drinkers out there. While I didn't indulge in any of the incredible looking sweet treats and cupcakes I did have a hankering for a smoooooooothie. I requested that the girl behind the counter recommend me something without banana and with zero hesitation she pointed me to the second one down (forgive my lack of memory on the Finnish word) that contained avocado, peanuts (!?), apples and other green things.
