They have nice old (60s-70s style) style furniture and the place does have charm and character. They focus on coffee from high quality Nordic roasters so expect to find the likes of Coffee Collective, Drop, La Cabra, Tim Wendelboe and Maja here but also the occasional roaster from outside (I have for example seen they have serves Heart). The coffee is nicely prepared, especially the filters are good. Food-wise it is mainly home made cakes and pastries (often raw and vegan) as well as rye bread sandwiches and yoghurt on the menu. The service is however weirdly inflexible - they had a set breakfast menu including coffee but the option was then espresso or americano. I asked if I could substitute for an Aeropress (that was cheaper than the Americano) and got no as answer but it was ok to substitute for the even more expensive latte. I even offered to pay extra but that was then not possible so ended up ordering the breakfast and adding an aeropress and telling them to just not make the other coffee but they insisted on making it and brining it over. Still the coffee is good and the sandwiches as well. They also have free wifi so good place to hang forma while.

Busy with all seating taken with the exception of high top window seats with a view. Ordered my usual cappuccino with lactose free milk. The croissant with raspberry filling caught my eye and it was delicious. Don't see this too often so glad I tried it. Cinnamon roll (Korvapuusti) was also excellent and I enjoyed my cappuccino. Friendly and helpful people behind the counter made for a great experience. Great vibe and coffee with interesting pastries are not to be missed!

I felt I could put a review together for having visited this location. Before arriving to Helsinki, you make a short list of typical area food, good deals on food, and coffeehouses. Of the latter, there are easily 5 to 10 coffeehouses and you might not visit all of them. Roasberg ought to make that list and it's one of the easiest ones to visit because the main train station - brace yourself: Rautatientori - and this coffeehouse are visually connected, albeit some two blocks apart. Some of the trams that pass in front of the station round a bend in front of Roasberg. I just needed something to eat to tide me over ... or not. I'd decide on whether to eat more later on. I went in to Roasberg and selected a panino like sandwich with deli meats from those in the glass case and drip coffee (which they bill as filtered coffee). Everything was fine. This Nordic country is possibly the easiest to visit because the Euro is their currency. That said, it's quick to deduce from the menu board that the prices are fair. The service was a little perfunctory. However, that's standard because there is no effusiveness anywhere in and around Helsinki, so customer service experiences are actually very predictable. I was almost going to go with 3 stars for Roasberg but then looked ... and looked ... at some of the ornate slices of chocolate cake others had bought and of which they shared photos. I know that that would push my experience to 4 stars, perfunctory service or otherwise. With waterways, evergreens, overcast skies, Nordic DNA, and a lower decibel level than in the south of Europe, the vibe can run a lot like that of Seattle. With such ingredients, you can join others savoring the quiet experience of a Finnish coffeehouse, and possibly being depressed to go along with that, and turn those lemons into lemonade by being a happy camper doing this. I wouldn't say Roasberg is stellar, but it is reliable. Moreover, if coffee and a dessert, or a sandwich, is what you have in mind, Roasberg is so close to the transportation hub of the Finnish capital that it's a sensible stop to make.

It's a gathering spot for several people, which is where I was heading after getting some breakfast. Cafe Engel is open all day, but for the earliest part of the day, they have breakfast, along with coffee and tea and pastries. I ordered a drip coffee and a cinnamon bun, which is a must have pastry anywhere in the Nordic world. And this one here at Cafe Engel was solid, and I liked that it was warm, making it extra tasty. For drip coffee, it's unlimited, which you can pour yourself. The cafe itself is a charming space, with many tables and chairs. When I visited, all of the tables by the windows were taken, which are the best spots because they look out to Senate Square. The staff were very nice, and it's the kind of place where you order at the counter and staff brings you your order at the table of your choosing. Casual and welcoming.

Their sandwiches are fantastic! The choices are endless and all ingredients are fresh and yummy. All sandwiches are made to order so no need to fear for a soggy bread roll. Also their coffee is of good quality and so are their salads that are popular among the hungry businessmen and -women who come here for lunch. I like to come here for a late breakfast or brunch, or to just grab a sandwich on the go when in a hurry.
