It was inside a handsome wooden box - tres chic. The tiny, 3.3 hectare Right Bank vineyard is produces wines which are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot in equal portions in each vintage. The vineyard has a terroir that consists of limestone, clay, gravel and sandy soils. The wine is aged in 50% new, French oak barrels for between 12 and 22 months, depending on the quality and character of the vintage. On average, 1,000 cases are produced of Chateau Le Chatelet each year. The estate is currently managed by Alain and Julien Berjal The Berjals will ship their wines to the US and reviewing the order book showed lots of shipments this year to individuals.

The tasting was 12 euros for their 2007 and 2011's vintage; free if you purchase any wine. Luckily, there was a professional tasting earlier in the day, which led us to also taste their 2009 Vintage as well (70% Merlot, 15% Cab Sauv, and 15% Cab Franc), lucky! The tour brought us to their Vineyard (one of the highest appellation at St Emillion), VAT-room, Cellars, Underground Cellar, and their lovely Tasting room. What stood out on this tour was their Underground Cellars; it was huge since Chateau Beausejour-Becot holds 10% of each vintage that goes back ages! It was dark, cold, a bit eerie, and yet wonderful with all the old wines. Overall, Chateau Beausejour-Becot is a lovely family owned estate. They also provide wine from each of the owners and offer lots of wine that's ready to drink now or to save for a special occasion. PS. Did I mention that they are also part of the 18 Premier Grand Cru of St Emillion; Premier Grand Cru is classified every 10 years, so the next classification will be in 2022. *101 Euros for their 2009 Vintage

A Premier Grand Cru Classé (A) château from the Saint-Émilion appellation, Angelus trailed only Château d'Yquem as the most beautiful château we visited. The château itself appeared to be a new construction that was specifically built with traditional/classic touches. The château and the facilities housing the winemaking operations were the perfect blend of state of the art and traditional. The grounds were obviously well maintained and beautiful, as well. Our tour ended with a wonderful tasting of the 2005 Château Angelus. It was sinfully good and capped off our tour of Bordeaux in perfect fashion. If you're on the Right Bank and have the opportunity to tour Château Angelus, take it!

I truly cannot say enough good things about this winery. While researching what wineries to visit in Saint Emilion we came across this one on maps. We were planning on going to a nearby Chateau and saw this one was super close, so we decided to look it up. I am so happy we did because this ended up being our favorite Chateau/winery of the day. They have a plethora of experiences including tour options with each, food centered visits, atv tours of the vineyard, and the cellar master tour, which we chose. Our cellar master visit, led by Ronan who was such a great host, started with history of the region and winery, education of the terroir, and a visit to the tank room where we learned about the wine making process. From there, it was time to taste wine in the cellar. This wasn't any cellar visit, here we tasted the same blend and vintage of a wine 5 times, all being stored differently. First in two different sized terracotta amphoras, next in both new oak then one year old oak, and finally in huge oak barrels. It was such a cool and educational way to really see how each storage method affect the wine. After our cellar visit, it was off to the historic chateau where we got to see what the finished product would taste like. But in addition that, we also go to taste wine from their other label outside of Saint Emilion, and some more of the Chateau Mangot label. We enjoyed many of these wines and ended up leaving with 9 bottles. This was truly such an amazing experience. Fantastic education, a great tour leader, great wine, and a beautiful setting, we really couldn't ask for more.

This was the first stop on my chateau tour and the grounds were immaculate complete with 12-1,000 year old olive trees brought over from Spain. They are planning to make olive oil as well. After the smell game where we tried to identify flavor notes and the informative tour we had wine and bought bottles impulsively. I wish everyone could come here to educate themselves more. We got to visit during harvest and it was a site to behold, we got to basically see start to finish of the grapes to wine. From getting to your the old winery, the vines, and the newer winery it was a great educational experience. The views from here are great to view the region as well. Thankfully the wines held up too, the tasting experience was great other than a few other tourists who didn't appreciate the work that goes into making a fine wine. Our guide was amazing and we brought back a couple bottles, wish we had space for more.
