I have eaten here about 11 times but can never get beyond the poc-chuc - I cannot say enough good things. If you are in Merida, go to La CHaya Maya (there are two locations). You won't regret it.

Whoa, this place is popular!…read more Hubbers and I are so glad we came through the exact time we did because if we waited ten minutes, we would have had to wait another 20. We were seated and given menus immediately so they're efficient with their time! Since I'm a first timer, I wanted to take my time with the menu. While waiting, they gave us complimentary chips with 2 kinds of bean dips, pico de gallo and red sauce: all very tasty! We've had to ask for a second serving! I've had huevos motulenos a few times, so I wanted the other version: huevos divorciados de la chaya maya. (Fine, I'll admit, I got it because I thought it was funny.) All I asked is if it was spicy (it's not) and that's all I know about the dish. So it was almost like a surprise dish for me. HUEVOS DIVORCIADOS DE LA CHAYA MAYA: I left it up to Hubbers to pick which ones I might like. He chose relleno negro and pipian - and he chose well! Broke the sunny side up yolk and mixed it in the relleno negro, added with the crispy texture of the chips: YUM. Did the same for the pipian, with its nutty flavor and creamy texture. Even the pumpkin seeds added taste. Sooooo goood! I made sure to empty that plate. LOS 3 MOSQUETEROS YUCATECOS: Hubbers' choice. This is a pretty plate! I got to try the pureed plantain (a first for me!) and that was tasty! Had a teenee taste each of the three dishes and also delicious. FOOD: 5. SERVICE: 4. VALUE: 4. PARKING: I didn't notice any parking lots, so can't comment on that, but there is street parking. Could be a challenge. OVERALL: 4.50 (bumped it up a little.) And the cherry on top: there's a lady making fresh tortillas. And they are delish! A crowd formed outside waiting for seating. I truly understand why. They really are popular! An amazing first run! Highly recommending!

First of all, the hype is REAL! I went to the Suc. Circuito location around 11:30 before lunch on…read morea Saturday. I was told locals go here in my area for a quick lunch and it seemed to be the case. All the tables were full but there was no wait. Simple but sturdy wooden chairs and tables, simple decor but well shaded and comfortable. Service was fast, I mean sit down, order tacos, get a drink, get tacos, slather tacos in salsa, inhale tacos, smile in around 3 minutes! Then do it again. I don't normally eat grain, so this was a special, "had to eat it" treat, but the simplicity of the food and absolute mastery of this cook made the experience dream worthy. I started off with Agua Fresca de Jamaica, 2 Poc Chuc Tacos, and a Pollo Poblano. They had 3 salsas varying from Tomato no spicy to Tomatillo mas spicy. I went with a few drops of the Mediano spicy and a bit more of the Tomato no spicy. Honestly, the Poc Chi Tacos needed nothing, the Pork was flavorfully seasoned and well cooked. The pollo Poblano was tasty with thin slices of poblano sautéed with chicken. While tasty as well, I had just eaten my Poc Chuc taco first so it was a bit less favored, I was ready for Poc Chuc taco #2. Next I ordered two sauces tacos. They were out of the Chicarrones Rojo Taco, but I was also excited to try the Cochinita and Carne Adobada which the waiter told me was their take on Al Pastor with pineapple. I got pickled onions on the Cochinita and it was lightly sauced. No added salsa for this round. The flavor was amazing! My fave of the day was Poc Chuc, wonder what adding pickled onions to that would be like? Prolly my dream dish! I might just go back to order the Guisados to go and make my own taco bowl at home. (It looked like they offered this) That way I can cut the grain out and still enjoy the super yummmm! Cost was what I perceived as affordable about $Mx20 per taco, (upcharge for Tortas as an option, or premium tacos like Cochanita) not sure how this compares to other Taquerias because it will likely be my only tacos to try this visit, but I thought it was well priced and reasonable. I believe they only accept cash, but I assumed this and had cash, so I suggest you don't try going without cash. What a treat, and how grateful I am to have experienced such a beloved spot!

If you'd like to get a taste of Yucatecan cuisine in a corn tortilla, its worth a visit for sure. Hubbers and fam talked this place up a storm, so it was a must have during our visit to Merida. So…read morethat was the original plan: to visit their Merida location but having a spot at the Progreso Malecon just simply made it very convenient. Hubbers and I came through maybe a little over an hour before closing time so there were plenty of seats and tables to choose from. We were given menus and what I appreciated immediately is that our server asked if we much prefer an English menu. Hubbers said he was fine but I certainly can use one. (I would have been fine without it, but it sure made ordering faster and easier!) We (literally) wanted to order practically everything, but common sense kicked in and decided to get a few apps, then decide whether we want mains or not after. They gave complimentary crispy tortillas and biscuits. Thankful for my refreshing and delicious pina colada because all these comp'd goodies did is made my mouth dry. The lime and sauces didn't help at all. This might just be their ploy of making us order more drinks. (I'll admit it worked.) But you know: don't knock it 'til you try it. One by one apps were getting to our table. TUNA CARPACCIO: The plate had so many things going on yet very well put together. It was a busy plate, for sure, but the fish was the absolute star of the plate. The vege added texture to the bite and the flavor of the sauce/marinade had a good blend. Avocado added creaminess to each bite. HALF DOZEN OYSTERS: I am incredibly skeptical about having oysters outside of the US, but Hubbers assured me they're safe to eat here. They tasted fresh, sure, but I found it kind of bizarre that the size of the oyster is not commensurate to the size of the shells. Delicious, otherwise. FRIED OCTOPUS: Hubbers loves octopus, so this was a must-have. This was well prepped. The seasoning on the thin batter was perfect and the octopus was tender. This dish didn't last very long on the table. We practically gobbled it all up. We liked it so much we thought about putting in a second order. We opted against it in the end. PICANA PIZZA WITH CHIMICHURRI: Okay, so I decided to get a main since I had a craving for pizza. Never had a picana pizza before, so there was no better time to try it. I didn't know what to expect, but since this place isn't a pizza joint, I didn't expect much. The crust was so thick that a fifth of the pie was JUST crust. There were slices of picana which tasted great. The amount of cheese was not overwhelming and the little vege it had surprisingly cleansed my palate, albeit a little. But the biggest challenge to this pizza was that they didn't slice it through and through to separate them triangle-shaped goodies. I was full after one slice, so I asked them to pack the rest up to take out. Offf, their packaging was less than stellar. (They literally and carelessly stuffed everything in a container - one can tell they just didn't care. And they still didn't bother separating the slices.) Hubbers decided on steak which he couldn't finish either since the apps were filling, but we're lucky to have a small kitchen (fridge included) in our hotel and had that and the pizza for a second meal. Hubbers also opted for dessert. I took a small bite. It was alright. SIL and her husband joined us later and put in a couple of starters and drinks. Salmon carpaccio (forgot to take a picture) is delicious as well. FOOD: 4.5 SERVICE: 4.5. Friendly and attentive staff, they make up for the minor gaffes. VALUE: 3. Pricey, but fair, especially for the location. Expect to pay the equivalent of US/American prices. PARKING: Not sure if they have their own parking lot, but there may be street parking at the back. OVERALL: 4. I'd have to try the Merida location first before I'd come back here, but overall better than average first run.
