I bought an auctioned vehicle a few months ago which needed a bit of work to get it running again. Initial inspection after the auction showed that my car needed a new engine belt and a few other small items replaced. At most, it was estimated that my car needed $2k of repairs (engine belts are expensive). It was the holidays and all mechanics near me were swamped. It would take at least 2 weeks before anyone could start working on my car. So I checked online reviews for other well rated mechanics near me. Chuck Scott Auto was located 18 mile from my home and was frequently mentioned online as the best and most affordable garage. They were also the only mechanic in a 25 mile radius that could start repairing my car immediately, so I had my car towed there. I ended up with a hefty repair bill of $3800, which included $225 for a new battery that I didn't authorize (note that my call history didn't show any missed calls from the garage before they added a new battery the day my car was towed back to my home), 2 new engine belts (even though only one needed replacing), new calipers, new rotaries, new brake pads, etc. According to the bill, my car was basically rebuilt. The car started and looked great. I was shocked at the steep bill, but I figured it was worth it to ensure that it safely operated. A few months later, I had issues with steering and the brake pads getting stuck. So I took my car to a local mechanic. They found that my tires had been loosely attached. It was just a matter of time before the tires fell off while I was driving. In the meantime, the improperly balanced tires were wearing away at the new calipers. I mentioned how much work Chuck Scott Auto had done on my car and showed this mechanic the invoice, which was still in the glove compartment. He checked my car for each item listed on the invoice. The 2 new belts? Only one was new; the second was rusted and looked like it was the original. The expensive new battery that I didn't ask for and probably didn't need? It turned out to be a cheap lead acid battery, not the more energy efficient and longer lasting GEM battery. I recalled that during the initial inspection of my car after auction, no one mentioned an issue with the battery. So the mechanic supposed that the original battery was taken to do repairs for another car and I was given a low quality replacement that wouldn't last a year. Ultimately, the mechanic confirmed that I was majorly ripped off. My car didn't have half of the "new" parts listed on the invoice. I strongly advise other drivers to head elsewhere for car repairs. read more

Me and my dad were ran off the road by a truck last night luckily we are okay but the car ending up having a oil leak. We called all local mechanics and no one was able to take us until the next couple of days and we have to get home so we called this place and what a god send, they have been amazing fixing our car, replacing the oil pan and taking care of us. I was sold a 99 Saturn with 98k miles for 4k and the minute we took it 9ff the lot we knew something was wrong. we contacted chuck Scott and ended up going to several mechanics who all states the engine was bad and burning oil. this was several years ago. we didn't know better. we were a young couple and I was very sick and in need of a car as my sister had just totaled my vehicle. he told us he would take great care of us. we should have sued the pants off him but didn't want to waste our time any further. this guy is far from honest or fair. he has a mechanic shop and each time we complained about a problem we would drop it off to him just for him to say nothing was wrong despite us having paperwork from several mechanics. we bought the over priced hunk of junk from him because he had the mechanic shop and assured us he could handle repairs. he fucked over a young couple starting out in life. he knew I had serious medical issues and was often in the hospital which is why we purchased the junk car because I needed to get to doctors appointments and I needed something right away. lesson learned. we are married now and only go to actual reputable dealerships. if you want to get fucked over chuck scott is your guy. read more

cracked the block on my cadillac, claimed he would get it fixed and then said he cant find a welder to fix it, now he wont return my car. VERY SHADY I would NOT do business with him. Lots of fails claims and out right lies. Takes advantage of people. read more

Last week I got new tires at Grand Premier Tire in East Greenbush (great service). They don't do alignments, so they recommended Chuck Scott. After I got the new tires installed, I drove directly to Chuck Scott's Auto and they got me right in. The alignment was only $72 - for a 4-wheel alignment!! I have an all-wheel-drive CRV and it needs 4-wheel alignments. Last time I got an alignment at a national chain - they jerked me around with the "upsell", ending up charging about $120 for a 4-wheel alignment. Chuck Scott got me in right away and had the work done in 20 minutes. My car drives great (the alignment was off a bit). It tracks true and straight now. The potholes here in upstate NY are terrible, so I'll be back next time my car needs an alignment. read more

Honest! Who knew that existed anymore? We thought we needed a wheel bearing replaced and we asked to have it done, but they talked us out of it!! Said it was good for a few more years. Will be using them again if we have car issues. read more

My husband has an old Hyundai Sonata that needed the transmission replaced. He got a quote from the transmission guy in Kinderhook and it was more than twice the amount Chuck Scott charged. The transmission had very low mileage and Chuck was able to get it and install it fast. This was nearly two years ago and the car is still on the road with no transmission problems. Chuck did not try to push any other services or repairs that were not needed at the time. After so many bad experiences with incompetent and greedy shops, we are happy we finally found a place that charges a fair price and does excellent work. Had a head gasket replaced here, their work was fine until winter. Apparently they filled the radiator with water because after the first hard freeze the head gasket was shot. I was told that we didnt bring it in for a "winter" servicing so Chuck couldn't warranty it. For $1100 I had hoped that covered antifreeze and last longer than 2 months. I will never bring a vehicle or recommend these scumbags to anyone. read more

I made appointment today for him to check over my car's exhaust...I was told I needed a resonator to a complete exhaust by 2 different establishments. Chuck was able to repair part of my exhaust that needed for a nominal fee. I cannot express, as a senior on a fixed income, how impressed I was with his service and integrity. Chuck Scott's is exactly what you want in a mechanic. They only recommend what your car needs, fix it quickly, and give you a reasonable price. I ended up getting quite a bit done (because my car needed it) - four new tires, new brakes, oil changed, new gas cap, sideview mirror, and it all cost under $1000 including labor. I got quotes from a bunch of different places for that kind of work, and every other place was pretty much double what I was charged. I found Chuck Scott's by dumb luck. I entered a raffle at a fund raiser and won an oil change. I was pleased they had Saturday hours. While I was waiting for my oil change, one thing struck me, every customer who walked in had a smile on their face and left seeming very happy. I brought my Honda Ridgeline to a dealer for a recall. The dealer told me I needed a steering rack and control arm bushings in addition to a timing belt (routine maintenance). The dealership quoted me $3000 for these repairs. I asked Chuck Scott auto to look at my vehicle. My steering rack was not leaking and did not need to be replaced, the bushings are good for at minimum another year if not more and they did the timing belt for about $300 less than the dealership. Yesterday, my brakes started acting up, I am calling Chuck Scott's this morning to get them checked out (The Honda is 9 years old and high mileage). The most honest mechanic I've ever met. Took my car to another mechanic for an antifreeze leak & was told $2,500, not worth fixing due to the high miles and really not telling me what the cause was. Went to Chuck Scott, within a day, diagnosed the problem and replaced the water pump. Car runs fine. I actually have to drive 30 miles to get to his shop...well worth the trip. My daughter brought her car there to be fixed. They told her it would be cheaper for her to just put a new motor in it. My husband not believing that,took it to another mechanic who then told us the motor was fine and it would only cost $237 to fix! We got it fixed and the car still runs perfect to this day.
