My experience with Southeast Pain and Spine was very negative. See below -…read more 1. I had a double lumbar fusion in 2017. I've been in pain management for four years as I suffer from significant lower back pain and nerve pain in my legs on a daily basis 2. I saw Kevin Costello for first time last week. He said only treatment he could offer me is a Spinal Cord Stimulator surgery and was not receptive to any other treatments. This was disappointing as there are other modalities out there to treat lower back pain that are less costly and less invasive. Also, my insurance will not cover a Spinal Cord Stimulator surgery until other treatment options have been exhausted. 3. In summary, I felt Kevin Costello and his staff dismissed me as I am young (35 years old) and failed to offer fundamental pain management services. I could not have been more insulted and will never recommend this guy or Southeast Pain and Spine to anyone suffering from chronic pain.

My primary care physician referred me to this medical practice for interventional pain management…read moreand a representative called me promptly to schedule an appointment. Two days ago I got a call from a representative at the practice telling me they were no longer in my insurance provider network. I called my insurance carrier and got information about how to proceed to submit an urgent request for prior authorization and get the practice paid as if it were still in network. I have been trying since then to get someone to give me the common courtesy of a return phone call. Someone from the appointment scheduling department called me back. I waited on hold for some time while she searched for the number of someone who would be able to help. The representative gave me a number and it turned out to be the business office at the practice's corporate headquarters. The person to whom I spoke was unfamiliar with prior authorization. I asked what I should do now and the person to whom I spoke said, "I can't tell you what to do." If this is a representative sample of the practice's professionalism I don't know if I would be comfortable having any sort of procedure done there.

When he moved to Texas I was…read moretransferred to Dr. Costello following an ACDF surgery. 4 months after surgery I was in a great deal of pain and suffering from debilitating headaches. I was prescribed several brands of Immitrex that offered little relief and led to a referral with a headache specialist with whom I had a single visit. She reported back to Dr. Costello that I was addicted to Immitrex after which he would no longer see me as a patient. Mayo clinic later determined my surgery never fused, several of my screws had broken, and I had a retropulsed vertbrae fracture impinging on my spinal cord. This was only after my entire left and dominant arm fell completely limp and numb causing me to lose use of it.

All I have to say is thank you for being an understanding doctor. I'll admit in the beginning I was…read moreterrified to go to this office. It didn't give that doctor office feel it felt like you were a criminal. However years later seeing dr.A, I couldn't be more thankful for a doctor who listens, works to find a solution, and cares for his patients. My issues will never get better they will get worse as I age. I'm almost 40 but still want to live and because of Dr.A, I can do that with tolerable pain. I dread the day I ever have to find someone else. That is my biggest fear. THANK YOU for being awesome I appreciate you!

When I seeing him regularly and not just because of his PA couldn't see me he immediately started acting like I was a lier. He told me to tell him what hurt when he touched me. When I started responding he got mad at me and snapped that he only wanted to know if it was unbearably painful not just uncomfortable. I still told him all the places that hurt but when I tried to explain the variances in pain he said he just wanted a yes or no not my feelings. The whole thing was degrading and demoralizing. He got worse as time went on. I could only talk about one aspect of my pain. He would always cut me off. He cut my medication by 2/3rds and refused to give me anything for withdrawal. I was assaulted and asked for a female doctor or a referral to somewhere with a female doctor. He said he had a female doctor. I saw her once and she told me she was only helping out for a few weeks. He completely lied there was no female doctor. I was scheduled back with him. I asked for a referral and he refused to give it to me. Since starting there he's gone through at least three dozen nurses and office staff and close to a dozen PAs. All he cares about is money. His office manager routinely gives out medical advices even though she has no medical training. They will tell you if something doesn't work to call and they'll change it. They never do. The office staff never gives messages to the PAs. It's just an awful toxic environment.

This is one of the only places that is open Saturday's. Yay! I am really pleased with the staff. Both desk staff and therapists are great. I especially like my therapist Leanne. She is just so sweet. I am new to physical therapy, so it was a surprise to me that they book multiple patients at one time. For instance I usually share my appointment with a lady who is going for back rehab. Even with that you get good attention and I am making progress. The only reason I did not give five stars is because of my first appointment. I had a fill in therapist and she really didn't explain how things operated and I felt a bit of a hard sell on coming more than once a week. And I get that is for my benefit, but there was no explanation of what my course of treatment would be and it felt a bit like chiropractors.....come as often as possible so we can bill insurance. Ultimately my copy is too high for me to come twice a week and due to my schedule I struggle to make it once a week.
