I just needed a wash and cut to restore some shape to the bulbous mushroom haircut from a different salon that left me traumatized back in February. He was a pleasure to work with to get my hair back to the normal layered curly goodness! There was a short consultation in the beginning and he really listened to everything I mentioned. I'm pretty low maintenance with my hair, so I didn't need it styled. I left his space incredibly happy with the results and glowing on the inside. Trust him to do his thing, ask his opinions and don't be shy about what you want. Melinda is awesome! I used to be a punk rocker who would always cut/color my own hair in the bathroom. Now I just want to go see her all the time! She gave my hair lots of body using a razor and scissors, and it looks and feels great. My hair looks so good, that I'm making my BF take me out on a hot date tonight. See? My hair color was a mid brown and I wanted to change it to a warm brown with some coppers and blondes, but I wasn't sure if that would suit my complexion. This is a long, long overdue for the amazing Melinda! My hair is prematurely gray. I started dying my hair black in high school to hide my gray hairs, but in 2015, at age 24 I decided that I wanted to let it grow out naturally. The main concern that I had about letting it grow naturally was the awkward transition time between dyed black hair to natural gray hair. I was on the lookout for a hair stylist who could help me with this, and thanks to Yelp reviews I found Chrome salon and felt that it was the right fit. I met Melinda for a consultation first, where we discussed the best plan for stylishly growing out my gray hair, as well as what processes my current hair could handle. Over the course of three more sessions within a week - which Melinda booked at night because so she could take her time - she was able to bring my hair from black to bleach blonde to lilac purple! Throughout the whole process she was constantly checking my hair to make sure that it was maintaining its integrity, and she didn't rush the process, which could have damaged my hair. During the months of growing my hair out, I went to Melinda for two other dye jobs - one was a deep purple, the other was teal - and I received so many compliments on my hair from friends, coworkers, and strangers alike. I had a stranger ask me the names of the dye colors mixed together so she could try to replicate it herself - and I had another stranger yell to me from a passing car to tell me that they loved my hair color! On top of Melinda being a fantastic stylist, she also very sweet and easy to talk to. Always amazing! I've been going to Roger for almost a decade and he never stops amazing me. He's listens to what I want and makes sure that it works for my face and hair. Colors, bangs, cuts and updos... Roger does it all. Over the years, when a friend has received a bad cut or color, I send them to him and he always fixes them right up. Roger has been cutting my hair since I moved here about 5 years ago. I have to say, I am always excited to get my hair done, not just because my hair looks amazing after, but also because I LOVE Roger, great sense of humor, down to earth, smart and so, SO fun to hang around with as he works on your hair. Because of this, I love the new location... in the old salon, Roger was running the show, and though always attentive, he also had to have an eye on what was going on around in the salon. Just got back from my first appointment at Chrome and after bouncing around from place to place trying to find a trustworthy place for cuts and colors I think I've found it! Roger was great - fun, personable and an expert. He's super knowledgeable with color and extremely efficient - with heavy highlights and a trim I was out in under 2hrs which is unusual due to the thickness of my hair. I went off a personal recommendation from a friend who goes to Melinda so regardless of which spouse you go to I'm sure you are in good hands. I have to agree with another 2 star reviewer. Not at all satisfied with my experience here. The cut I asked for is nothing like the cut I received and also a good 2 inches shorter than I specified. This stylist was barely interested in achieving for me what I verbally and physically indicated that I wanted. I was not asking for anything many other excellent stylists had not achieved before. I had the feeling as though he were doing me a huge favor instead of doing his best to make the experience something I would like to repeat. I have, of course experienced many hair stylists cutting my hair over the years and the results have varied. This result I will be growing out for 6 months until I can find someone else who will, I hope, be able to fix this. It really is one of the laziest efforts I have seen perpetrated on my head in quite some time. I have fine hair but with a lot of volume. It needs some careful attention to layering correctly in order to avoid triangle head, something I discussed with this stylist and that we agreed was best avoided. Unfortunately, I'm looking at triangle head now for the next several months. read more

I was so upset when I heard that Chrome had moved out of Culver City to the Marina, until I went to the new location in the Marina. Not only are the services as good as, if not better than, before, but the parking situation is great -- free and easy. With just Roger and Melinda working, the small space they are now in is intimate and cozy, fine with me. Roger went downstairs and bought me a coffee while I was getting my highlights done by Melinda -- so nice! And Melinda does a great job with my hair. Her coloring is fantastic.
