Best dentist in Huntington Beach. Dr. Chan is very friendly and knowledgeable. His office is equipped with the latest technology. There's a 3D X-ray machine where you stand in place and a scanner moves around you. The resulting image allows Dr Chan to verify that your jaw is in good shape in addition to your teeth. For more granular imagery they have portable wireless X-ray machines that look like they're just holding a camera in their hands. You're seated and there's a big screen TV in front of you where you get to see the X-rays display as they're taking them. Finally there's a tiny digital camera that is used for high resolution color photos of your teeth. I recently switched to Dr Chan from a different dentist. Dr Chan just discovered that one of my teeth has hairline fractures. My previous dentist didn't notice this. Dr Chan was able to show me digital color photos of the front and back of my tooth so that I could see the fractures myself. The dental hygienist who did my cleaning was very friendly and gentle. I've been going to see Dr. Chan since he took over the office about 7 years ago and love the change. He genuinely cares and is very accessible whenever I have any questions or concerns. Compared to some of the other dentists I've been to in the past, I think he is one of the most caring and honest dentists out there. He always goes over with me all of my treatment options and recommends what's best for me. I trust his work and recommendations because he is well-trained and I know he has my best interest in mind. I've referred many family and friends to his office and they all love him, too. His staff does a great job in estimating what my insurance may or may not cover, so I have a good idea about how much my copay will be. I decided to write this review based on my mom's experience. Bottom line - Dr. Chan rocks and my mother will be coming back! My mom hates going to the dentist (being Asian and all thinking she doesn't need a specialist for ANYTHING and nature will cure itself!) I was finally able to drag her to one b/c she had an ongoing toothache. I positioned as he speaks Chinese and I heard a lot of good things about his practice. OMG, it worked for once! called and made an appt (smooth and efficient!). went in NOT dragging my mom - WHEW!. and the receptionist was especially warm and friendly. She greeted us by name and welcomed us like family. Mom was seen right on time and was made to feel as comfortable as possible by the assistant. She even offered her a pair of shaded glasses to shield her eyes from the bright light, and a set of headphones to listen to music (too bad she didn't know how to change stations. haha). Anyhow, toothache bye bye, insurance covered, mom better, and ME moving one step closer to getting my mom to see a doctor for a physical. BTW - Dr. Chan's office is immaculate. I honestly don't like going to the dentist. All I see is a chair of torture where the light makes it seem like I've just been abducted by some alien race. Then again I'm kinda exaggerating. I haven't gone to a dentist in over year (shame on me) and I really needed the cleaning since I was sure there'd be a lot of gunk. My bro referred me to Dr. Chan since he thought Chan did really well. So I go in there, pretty standard dental office, pretty ballin instruments, sign in and I waited only a short time before I was called in. I got my X-Ray, which miraculously showed that my teeth were in pretty good condition. The cleaning went very smoothly. The whirring sound of one of the instruments, the suction, makes my palms sweat a bit. But what freaks me out the most is the pain that comes when a dentists starts probing your teeth and scraping off all that gunk. Then your mouth gets all ridiculously bloodied, etc. Fortunately, I didn't experience too much of the pain. I felt that Dr. Chan showed expertise and the cleaning finished in no time. I told him bout my teeth starting to feel sensitive, which turned out that I was brushing too hard. First of all, my husband is very picky about who he sees when it involves his teeth. We "tried" several dentists but none were the right fit. I've been seeing Dr Chan for 6 months now. The office is staff is great, very attentive and knowledgeable. I love his dental hygienist, she says spent close to an hour on my initial visit. She is extremely thorough and provided so much education on how I can make my mouth healthier. I followed most advice, and at the 6 month follow-up she mentioned areas where I could still improve. Dr Chan is also great, and requires a separate appt which allows him to give you sufficient time to see him. I've only had 3-4 cavities in my life so don't have much room to compare, but Dr Chan did a great job with a cavity btw 2 teeth which was difficult to reach. I also went to The office for Zoom whitening which gave me amazing results. I'm a regular espresso drinker and thought my teeth would never be this white again. I only had mild sensitivity the day of. Only reason I gave 4 v 5 stars is bc it was difficult to get my initial appts w dental hygienist and Dr Chan on the same day. If you want to spend two hours at the dentist to avoid a second trip it requires you plan at least 2 weeks in advance. But for the record, the 1.5-2hrs aren't spent in the waiting area, you'll be getting a thorough exam. read more

I was having some issues with a broken tooth that I never got fixed. Last Saturday it was really bothering me so I found Dr Chan was open for another hour. I decided to call and he was nice enough to invite me down even though they were about to close. After looking at the tooth he decided to fix it right there on the spot! He stayed several hours past closing to make sure he did a good job. And he did, a great job in fact! I hate going to the dentist but Dr Chan made is so easy and painless. About 6 weeks ago, I switched my family over to Dr. Chan's office for our dental needs. First I had my daughter go in for a cleaning, although it had been 11 months since her last cleaning and xrays, Dr. Chan's office found 14 cavities!! At this time my dental insurance did not kick in yet and I was a cash patient. I was presented with a 4 page invoice in which my daughter's fillings were broken down into 4 different appointments to have the fillings completed. The total amount was over $3500.00 and included a retainer which I had not requested. Next I went in for a cleaning and was told I needed a root cleaning which consists of 4 appointments (one quadrant at a time). I asked if my insurance would pay for this (I have the Delta Dental PPO preffered) and was told that my gums weren't bad enough for the insurance to pay for this and the insurance would probably deny it. I asked if I should go to a periodontist and was again advised, that this was not neccesary as their hygenist could do the root cleaning and insurance would most likely deny any periodontal cleaning or visit because my gums weren't that bad. The cost for the root cleaning was going to be $133.00 for each visit. I called my prior dentist and decided to go back to his office. He may not have flat screen tv's, spa decor and an expensive xray machine, he is thorough and does a great job that I can afford. After I called my prior dentist and made appointments to see him next week, I cancelled our Saturday appointments with Dr. Chan 26 hours before the normally allotted 24 hours. I was told that Saturday appointments require a 48 hour cancellation and we would be charged $50.00 for my appointment and my daughter's appointment for a total of $100.00. Mind you I am a brand new patient and never had a Saturday appointment and was not aware of this fee. To top it all off, the toothbrush I received after my cleaning was a cheap Colgate toothbrush that was hard on my gums. Although Dr. Chan seems like a nice dentist and the office staff are pleasant I feel like I was being ripped off and will be going back to my prior dentist. I also have 4 other family members that just see Dr. Chan and I will be making sure they know of my experience with his office. read more

Trust is something you earn and Dr. Chan has earned and kept mine for years. I have had many dentists in my lifetime who were wonderful when it came to routine cleanings but as soon as I needed a procedure (ie: filling, root canal) their lack of skills and lack of care became evident. It is rare to find somebody skilled at their craft and actually cares. Dr. Chan is professional, meticulous, honest, and good at what he does. His exams are extremely thorough and he'll go over all your options with you and provide you with an itemized treatment plan. Dr. Chan brought my teeth and gums to the great health that they are in today. He is the most comprehensive and honest dentist I know. My previous dentist before Dr. Chan was on his way to retirement and didn't even do routine exams on me or care to take x-rays! So, my teeth were pretty neglected, to say the least. Dr. Chan put me on a very thorough treatment plan and now my teeth and gums are in the best shape they've ever been in. I really appreciate Dr. Chan taking preventative measures to correct my oral health before they get worse, more painful, and more expensive to fix. His hygienist, Kerri, is also amazing. She always takes the time to explain what type of cleanings I need (I never knew there were so many types of cleanings!) and my teeth and gums always feel so fresh and clean afterwards. When you are at an age where you need dental work that is "re-does" of the "re-does", it is comforting to know it will be done correctly with great competency. Dr. Chan took the pain away! I had a tooth that had been sensitive for a few years but no previous dentist could tell me why and even went as far to say I needed a root canal. When I went to an endodontist for a second opinion he said there was no indication that I needed a root canal and that I just had an overly sensitive tooth and would most likey just have to live with it. Dr. Chan did a complete exam and when he got to the problem tooth said it was sensitive from agressive brushing that wore away some of my enamel. I am a BIG chicken when it comes to being in the dental chair but Dr. Chan gave me headphones to listen to with my favorite tunes cranked up to full volume and assured me he would stop if I felt pain. I closed my eyes, gripped the armrests of the chair and tensed every muscle in my body but never felt the injection. After I realized there was no pain I relaxed. For the first time in years I can drink hot and cold drinks and eat sweets with no pain to that sensitive tooth. He was able to enlarge the digital x-rays to see a couple cavities that may have been missed on the traditional x-rays that are only an inch high and can't be enhanced. A panoramic x-ray showed that a life time of clenching my teeth and tmj pain has not caused damage to the tmj area of my jaw but a nightguard recommended by Dr. Chan has helped a great deal. After a fractured cusp on a back tooth from clenching, I was happy to know there was a solution to save the rest of my teeth and help me avoid further fractures and possible crowns in the future. I've always wanted to get my teeth whitened, heard about the results from many friends, but never made the commitment. Since I'm getting married this summer, I decided to finally look into it for myself. When I got the consultation with Dr. Chan, he was very thorough and explained the entire process from start to finish. After my "old-school" dentist of 18 years retired, my old dentist left my teeth in bad shape through neglect, thus exacerbating my gum pockets to aggressive periodontal disease. I searched high and low for a new dentist whose office had the capabilities of general dentistry as well as periodontal oral surgery to address my deep gum pockets. I'm glad I found Dr. Chan's office! Dr. Chan is highly experienced in the use of laser technology for dentistry, which minimizes pain, procedure time and reduced healing time. If your periodontist recommends traditional flap surgery for your deep pockets, I highly suggest you save yourself some pain and go the laser route. With Dr. Chan's deft laser expertise, my periodontal flap surgeries had minimal pain and healing time, unlike traditional flaps. Less expensive to boot! Don't let Dr. Chan's young looks fool you. He's very knowledgeable, experienced and gentle. The staff is super friendly, efficient and organized. I never have to wait on my appointments. I'd been going to this office for 15 years and loved it. Dr. Chan took over a few years ago and I continued to go. Although the staff and Dr. Chan is friendly and Dr. Chan is a good dentist he can be pushy and doesn't really care for your opinions/wishes. The breaking point was something very urgent came up and I had to cancel my appointment w/ only 20 hours notice (as opposed to the required 24) and was charged a $50 fee (despite being a 15 year-long customer). I told them if they didn't drop the fee I would not go back and they opted for the $50 late cancel fee. I'm on the market for another dentist. read more

Dr. Chan continues to impress. I've always liked how he's so on top of his continuing education; it makes me feel like I'm getting the most current procedures and techniques done on my teeth. You can tell that he cares about his work and strives to provide the latest technology and equipment for his patients. Recently, he used a LASER to fill my cavities and it was completely PAINLESS!! I didn't even have to get numb with any shots. No needles were used whatsoever. The best part about it was that I could eat immediately afterwards and not have to wait for any numbness to wear off. It was as if I hadn't gotten any dental work done at all. That's how amazing it was! My husband went in to see Dr. Chan a few days later and got some laser work done, as well. He's always biting his lip or cheek whenever he eats and it creates this bump, which unfortunately, takes forever to get better since he keeps re-biting that bump! Luckily, Dr. Chan was able to use his laser to flatten the bump. My husband said the procedure was completely painless, as well. Dr. Chan's new laser technology is pretty awesome.
