I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Schumm. We were referred to him by my beloved LA dentist, upon relocating to Orange County in 2016 and boy am I grateful! He takes his time, is always educating and happy to chat. But most of all, he cares. In fact, if you call on a Friday when they are closed, he may just pick up the phone and help you out. There is no pushiness here, and he is conservative in his approach to dentistry. He just wants his patients to have good oral health. In fact, good overall health. They have a Hygienist but Dr. Schumm does cleanings too, which we love. My needs are simple and cleanings are extremely thorough. My husband has had oral surgery, crowns, etc... and Dr. Schumm is gentle and does excellent work. Laura, the office manager, is friendly and makes scheduling a breeze. I hate going to the dentist but he and Laura make it as good as can be. A million years ago, I grew up in a small town. This place has small town vibes. They just don't make them like this anymore. WOW, I am very shocked to see a 1 star review for Dr. Schumm! That guy must have been having a bad day. I had quiet the opposite experience at this dental office. I have now visited Dr. Schumm twice. First appointment was for an initial exam and the second for a clean. I have to say, Dr. Schumm has made me a patient for life!! Dr. Schumm is VERY PERSONABLE. He took the time to listen to me and my concerns. He gave me very helpful, detailed answers on what was causing my pain and what I can do to prevent and/or correct it. He took his time looking over my x-rays and communicated to be what he saw. All of his answers to my questions were very detailed and thorough. He did not rush any of the answers or any of my questions. He is a very knowledgeable and experienced dentist. During my cleaning, which he did himself, we had a GREAT conversation. He is so knowledgeable in so many areas besides dental care. He did a great job cleaning my teeth and letting me know where and what I need to spend more time on in my oral hygiene. I was completely comfortable and pain free the whole time. Point blank, he cares about his patients!! Marilyn, the front desk lady, and the dental assistant were both very nice and very friendly. Marilyn calls to remind you the day before your appointment, which I like because I am very busy and forget these things sometimes. ******** Dr. Schumm is also involved in his community!! ******** He helps a program called Project Self Sufficiency, which is a program for single mothers in college. He helps these mothers without dental insurance to get the dental care they need to stay healthy. Thank you again Dr. Schumm, Danielle and Suzanne! My tooth has been bothering me all weekend, pain, can't bite on, no hot or cold... caused so much pain. Called first thing this morning and she got me in this morning. After A thorough examination, Dr. Schumm came to the conclusion I probably just have sinusitis and gave me a prescription for a z-pack. Came her recently and had a bad experience. It was mainly with how I was treated at the front desk by a lady named Marilyn. I filled out the forms needed in advance and I still waited a long time. The dentist wasn't all that personable but in all fairness did a good job at cleaning my teeth. This is a really tiny office in an old building. Bottom line, Marilyn could use more customer service training even at her age. Also, proper communication between patient and dentist I think it's very important and that didn't happen here. Me, I won't return to this dental office and I won't recommend anyone come here for their dentistry needs. With so many dentists in this So. The staff are always helpful and make sure to call and remind me ahead of time for my appointments and also if there has been a cancellation for a previously requested time slot. Dr. Schumm has been my dentist since I was a child......he has always had a "pain free" policy, which is VERY IMPORTANT to me. He does a thorough exam and is very knowledgable, educating his patients as he works. I now make quite a trek to see him, but it's worth it. I would have to say that this place has the friendliest staff I have ever experienced in a place of business (let alone at a dentist!). Dr. Schumm is chatty at times but always professional and never distracted from what he's doing. You can tell he takes pride in his work and it never feels like he's rushing it. He takes the time to go over everything with you and answers any questions you may have. So far, I had an impacted wisdom tooth removed, teeth cleaning, and couple fillings done here in the last few months and the experience has been consistently top notch. Appointments have been quite punctual and I never had to wait more than 5 minutes. The receptionist there does a great job in accommodating my schedule and calling me to let me know when a time slot or date has opened up so that I could go there sooner for my wisdom tooth extraction (it was much needed!). Price is also fair for someone like me who doesn't have insurance. read more

For me finding Dr. Schumm is like finding a needle in a haystack. I am a big OLD scaredy-cat. In the past I avoided going to the dentist so long that a tooth had to get extracted. Not to mention how much pain that tooth gave me. Now, had I met Dr. Schumm long ago, that would not have happen. And I would still have all my teeth.. lol He not only thoroughly examined my teeth, but looked at my hands and neck also (WAIT LET ME EXPLAIN!). When I first sat down in the chair, Dr. Schumm said, " I will start examining you, I will also do things other dentist usually don't do." After hearing that, I thought hmmm, I should leave NOW!... LUCKILY I didn't! After looking at me and my hands, he asked me if I had allergies. I thought it was the standard questions a doctor's office usually ask patients. If you are allergic to latex or medication... I said no... Then he said hmm, OK. Then he proceeded to check my teeth. A minute later he asked me again, " are you sure you don't have any allergies?" I then realized what he meant. I do suffer from really bad outdoor allergies. But at the time I neglected to take care of myself. Plus I just kept assuming, " a cold coming". I asked him how he knew. He explained that color of my hands, the color of my nails, how my throat was, ect.. Things in your body that causes any of those factors to be a little different, can also cause you to have some kind of pain/sensitivity in your gums/ teeth... In turn could make you feel as if you have a cavity or may need some other dental work... Then you go to some random dentist. The dentist proceeds to say you need a root canal, and slams you with a bill for $500! And $500 for the crown. For a root canal you didn't even need to begin! (Dr. Schumm didn't say that slamming part. It is something I said from experience.) Anyhow, Dr. Schumm, talked me through every step he was performing on me.. Which helped to calm my anxiety! OH, did I mention, his cleaning was the BEST I have every had! I had stains on my teeth that no one had ever bother cleaning off for me. In the past, I was told, that those stains cannot be cleaned. I guess it was because they were in the grooves of my teeth. But Dr. Schumm took his precious time to clean it all!!! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Not to mention how perfectly he made my crown fit. I can't even tell I have it! He goes above and beyond what any other dentist would do. I would recommend him to ANYONE! Now that I think about it, I take the needle in the haystack comment back! I would like to say Dr. Schumm and his staff are like finding a GEM in a haystack!! read more
