Who are you ...Great Lakes Family Dental Group of Tecumseh? I don't know you anymore…read more Let me tell you all a story that goes back to the 1960s when I was a little boy....all the way to modern day 2024. My mom took me as a 5-year-old to the dental practice of Doctors Murray, Wolf, and Curtis DDS. A dental practice located on the northeast corner of Chicago Boulevard and Democratic Street at the time. They had a reputation of being the finest dental practice in Tecumseh and that is where I grew up having my teeth taken care of. Over the decades partners changed and a reincarnation of that practice eventually moved to the current location on Russell Road and became Great Lakes Family Dental Group. And many of the same familiar faces were still there including my dentist Dr Wolf. I realize people retire, pass away, time marches on and new people take over... that's the cycle of life. So I did my best to adapt to the new practice and for many years everything was fine I developed a relationship with a new dentist after Dr Wolf retired and my service continued to be top-notch like it always was over the course of a lifetime. Then, within the last 10 years things started to change. I could no longer see the dentist I developed a relationship with because they were no longer there so I tried a new dentist but that didn't last ...they left as well. And another and another and another. I must ask...What has this practice become? Could the Great Lakes family dental group be called "Great Lakes Transient Dentistry". This got me thinking about changing dental providers after a lifetime with them and their predecessors. THE CATALYST The catalyst to my eventual departure was a couple of years ago. I needed an implant so I had a consultation scheduled with their in-house periodontist who specializes in that procedure. Apparently she works between the different practice locations of Great lakes family dental group; a multiple location chain. I scheduled time off work for this appointment. Two days before the appointment I received a call from the receptionist at Great lakes family dental group advising me that my appointment was cancelled and would need to be rescheduled due to the unavailability of the specialist that would be performing the consultation. As I was speaking to the receptionist on the phone I heard another person in the background ask the receptionist "why is she rescheduling this one? " I then heard the receptionist I was speaking to (while covering the phone) reply to her colleague as follows... "that Dr ********** scheduled a "more expensive" procedure for that day & time." I guess they thought I could not hear them. Now I'm sure this goes on all the time but to allow the patient to hear this is very unprofessional. And to let ME hear it was downright stupid. I did not reschedule. I went to a professional in Washtenaw County and had my implant done. This got me thinking about severing ties with this Dental Group. Now two years later and another Dentist GONE, I am done with you . I guess I was just tired of seeing all the dentists come and go like Grand Central. My wife could not even establish a professional relationship with one of your dentists, due to the transient atmosphere. Just when you get to like a particular Dentist....they leave. I have moved back to a "local dentist" who actually lives in the community they serve. I checked tax records, the majority of your dentists do not live in or around Tecumseh. To your credit I will say ....most all of the oral procedures that I have received over the decades have been top-notch. until recently with one exception ...the last crown you placed popped off less than a year after it was placed. And you charged me again to fix it. Your "branch" of this group might be "in Tecumseh" but there's very little local about you and your Dentists anymore.

Most people don't love going to the dentist. I'm no different. Though after the pain and suffering…read morefrom my two sets of braces, and major jaw surgery, I'm more than happy to go to the dentist to proactively avoid any future pain. I've had quite enough, thank you very much. After waiting a little too long this go around (for a cleaning), I was a little concerned about the pain I might feel. Really, my hygienist did a great job of making me comfortable. The doc came in and did a little rummaging around, good to go. It was really quite a pleasant experience, given that I was at the dentist. The only irritating part is that when my dad called to make the appointment, he told them no x-rays. They did them anyway, and then tried to charge me for them (I don't have insurance). I complained about it, and they did take it off the bill. So I was happy about that... overall good experience. Just make sure that if you don't want x-rays you say it both on the phone and in person (I didn't know that the quoted price from my dad didn't include x-rays, otherwise I would have told them in person too). Oh, the cost for the cleaning was $150.
