This school removed my previous review but one thing about life is that you do not get to run from the truth. This school is absolutely awful. Mrs. Hamilton & Mrs. Dimas are the principal and vice principal of this school. They are extremely self serving with no real regard of community or accountability. Dimas in particular is responsible for saying several derogatory remarks about children that are viewed as problematic. Children here smoke in the bathrooms during all hours of the day, sometimes in class as well. Children ditching walk in packs during class hours and disturb other active classrooms. There is not nearly enough supervision so most of the ppl that work here are always pulled from their actual jobs whether it be a school counselor, school social workers, etc to fill in the supervision gaps this school has. Which in turn makes working for this school, extremely stressful due to the poor work environment & the lack of time you have to actually work on things that are your actual assignment. Through multiple conversations with Staff, it is safe to say that staff feels undervalued, unappreciated, and disrespected. Kids constantly are assaulting staff members as well whether it be verbally or physically and face little to no repercussions due to the administrators decisions in how the deal with them. Administration only seems to care about what the optics are to their bosses and how many kids they can get at the school regardless of the serious security issues the school has & parental concerns. Parents are kept on a need to know basis at all times & concerns are usually neglected by administrators. Regardless of any "security" plans they come up with, it is largely disorganized and most of time extremely difficult to follow up with due to the lack of staff and resources this particular school has. This school only has one campus aide and either fired or forced the other 4 to quit due to petty problems that were exacerbated by administration. The school recently tried to hire another campus aide after firing the second to last one they had but, that aide refused to go because of how badly it is at Columbus middle school opting to take a pay cut in hours to stay at their current location. Do not send your kids here. Anywhere else is safer and better equipped to have your child. read more

Don't take ur children to this school I'm a student here and honestly I really dislike this school there is a fight every week and they don't really take anything seriously and don't even get me started of the council they say whatever you say will not be told to anyone but As soon as your finished with your talk they will call your family they won't even ask if your ok with it like the hell and the principal is super rude also staff/teachers and there was this teacher mr.Williams I reported him for calling the girls rude names and harassment but the counselor told me I had to apologize for "disrupting the class" I really felt helpless and the magnet dose not make anything easier and stuff like money,AirPods,and valuables have been stolen from lockers there is a lot more but if I did this review would never end but trust me I'll keep posting about my school experience read more

worst school ever i went to this school and there were fights everyday to the point they would even cancel lunch and the teachers are mean and arent even teaching. my 8th grade teacher just sat there and never taught us anything we would just be on our phones. my 8th grade science teacher left the school and we never had a teacher we just kept having subs and we never did anything it was a crazy class and students are destroying everything. in that science class i had, students threw all the books and they were all ripped and destroyed including mine. everyone is mean and they dont do anything about the bullying i was being cyber bullied by my opps and my friend told the assistant principal and they said nothing about it yet my opps still continued to do it. read more

This school is decent I've been there since 6th I'm in eighth now boutta be in 9th I've met really good people there the teachers are kinda ass but there's like at least 1-2 fun teachers there. The kids like shit talking and starting fights but it's mostly just the 6 and 7th graders. Counselors are nice. The principal doesn't really do anything except for take phones away. They don't allow you to use your phone while in school hours not even on our break. Overall the school has been pretty fun and I'll miss it. (Though there can be some pretty toxic kids) read more

Definitely really upset and angry!! I have my daughter at this school and she is in 6th grade, one of his student in her class stole her glasses during class time so my daughter sold the teacher about what happened. I had to call 3 time in a roll. The 1st time I called I told them them what had happened they told me they were gonna call me which they didn't and the 2nd day I did not hear back from them so I called back to see what was going on they transfer me to the assistant principle which I Ieft a message no response again so I call again and the 3rd day I called to follow up and they transfer me to assistant principle which finally got a hold of him and I ask him if got my message and he said no.. and her we go again explaining the same situation over again. Finally after the 3th day I guess they called the parents to let them now that his son had stolen my daughter glasses.. because my daughter call me to let me now the parent were going to drop them in one of the offices. Overall I am happy now that he has her glassed black but If I haven't been insisting about this issue nothing would ben done that for sure! read more

The school lies about better opportunities. The administration does slim to nothing to protect bullied kids. They will sweep your complaints under the carpet to protect the LAUSD score. Ms. Sheikh is rude to her students. She told my daughter she had mental issues in front of the whole class, embarrassed my daughter numerous times. School did nothing to defend her. I suggest not to send your child here. The principal does nothing to improve the school either. False promises and their Magnet program is the worst. Do not believe them. read more

My son attended Columbus for a very short period of time. He is on the autism spectrum and had a run in with a male teacher that was instructing P.E. My son came home very upset saying the teacher yelled at him and told him he didn't know how to use his brain. I'm glad I pulled him out of this school. On the day of my suprise visit in her office. As a parent of two young students of our local community school and as a parent representative for our community I had found that I will no longer nor looking forward to have my innocent children to be near Mrs./Ms. Ann Alloca in the near future. She have proven her worthless attitude to service my family by showing a very negative behavior toward a parents of Los Angeles school district. We will no longer pursue our children's future education to be part of Columbus Middle school. Her negative and disrespectful actions had me scared to even think of having any children in her presence. I will be taking some actions and will make this a point why many of our children are not learning from our school system is due to an example of worthless educator like Ann Allocca who's a perpetrator in our school system. The day of my visit was a nerve wrecking moment, a moment a mother has to encounter with feeling of worthless and lasting with a nervous emotions. I walked into her office and greeted her with hello and kindness by making an effort to extend my hand to shake hand, but she did not extend her hand or even try to shake mine. I was also hoping for her to ask me how she can service my presence. The first thing she asked was who was I? I said my name is Anita Betito and I live in the community. She respond by saying " I don't know you" with a unpleasant tone in her voice and attitude. I continually tried to extend my hand to her to shake her hand but, she did not want to extend her hand to me. I was hoping she would also offer me one of the empty two chairs in her office, which she did not, I was standing throughout this dillema. I was pretty consumed with her negative unpleasant behavior that I was encountering a nervous emotions and confusion. Her actions toward me was unexplainable. I did not know what to do at this moment but explain to her my purpose of visiting her office. As I stood there, while she's sitting down and had a very unpleasant look on her face as we went further by the minutes of unpleasant moment, I knew that my purpose of visit was unwanted. She replied to me and says if you're asking us to help you my answer is no. At this time she also has not taken the time to read the invitation I had handed her, but all she did was took the time to make me feel very unpleasant by being rude to me. At this moment, I have accepted that this woman don't want nothing to do with me. The further the conversation, my emotional confusion has extended with her unpleasant actions toward my presence. I decided to end this trauma that I was encountering at the moment. I walked away as she spun her chair to face her computer with no goodbyes or nor thank you for visiting her campus that day. I sat in my car and gave my self a breather, inhale and exhale and try to catch myself with overwhelming and scared emotions. I went back in my thoughts and re evaluated the visit. The first thing came to my my mind was the race card issue might have played. The second issue was descrimination?, but yet, I have to keep my mind open to this subject. It was pretty understood in my caliber of business and education that Ann Allocca did not take her time or effort to show me her loyalty and dedication to our children and our family. My goal is to help our children and it's family. I will make sure that this incident I have encountered with Ann will not happen to any other innocent family again. Being a principal does not empower you to make any family worthless than you. Our children has not fail our family, Ann Allocca has FAILED our families. She let our children and community down. I am hoping for our school district to take some kind of disciplinary action toward such unprofessional faculty like Ann Allocca. Columbus MS tends to get a bad wrap for its overall experience but in reality it is only the parents who's children don't even go there that talk bad about the school. I feel as if it greatly suited my needs. The experience isn't an easy one and yes the diversity isn't that great (mainly Hispanic) but their programs are worth while. Their Hippocrates Circle Program w/ Kaiser is amazing; inspiring young minds to pursue medical careers. Their athletic and after-school programs are great; promoting team work and athletics! Their accelerated studies in the Magnet program allow a great taste in the science field with biology and health joint education programs. Their classes allow exploration in the sciences: computer, health-related, biology/chemistry, and laboratory as well as in now, robotics. It may seem dull at first but their music and drama is absolutely great!!!!! (Carol is an aspiring and awesome coach for the kids in drama. ) Their H Bio course offers lab hands-on experience with dissections and their behaviorology course leads to the students exploration in the world of psychology. They are just overall great at creating well-rounded and humble kids. Appearances lie people! Enrolling your child here only leads to greater things. read more
