After a wonderful day of castles and quaint towns, it was time for my birthday dinner & Bagatelle…read moreprovided a scrumptious Veggie Tasting Menu!! Started w/ a basil mousse w/ sundried tomatoes, fresh cherry tomatoes & pesto Truffled teeny cubed purple potato w/ fresh avocado & hard boiled quail egg Beet flan w/ lima beans & lentils & crunchy fried potato in horseradish sauce paired w/ a fruity Riesling Poached Egg in glass with spinach and Truffle créme Lemon sorbet - nice palate cleanser Leek Strudel w/ shittake mushrooms cabbage green beans Asian flavor - reminded me of an egg roll. paired w/ a dry Riesling By this point, the wine pours were very heavy-handed & we were feeling no pain. It was to the point we told them to please skip any dessert wine they may have planned to bring out Chocolate Tart w/ vanilla ice cream & poached mirabelles....the tart / bitter mirabelles were a wonderful pairing to the chocolate This dinner lasted 4 hours & we felt that once the seating had reached maximum capacity, the service reflected the crowd - we were seeing 1 hour between courses & walked out of there after 4 hours completely tired, completely full, & completely drunk The food is wonderful & this is a lovely setting to enjoy a leisurely dinner along the river

Unfortunately the only ice cream place that's right in the middle of bitburg…read more The ice cream is ok but pretty expensive. There's nothing special about it. The only good thing is the seating area outside, that's neat in the summer but other than that not worth a recommendation.

Lobia is hands-down my favorite Eiscafe in Bitburg, though more so for the quality of their product…read morethan for anything else. Bordering on expensive but absolutely delicious, it's a go-to locale of the city and worth the trip. VENUE: Situated in the Fussgaengerzone, you won't be able to park any closer than 75 feet at best. The establishment itself is a quaint little shop with a cozy interior and about 8 outdoor tables. It's a clean place, with even its little bathrooms passing my inspection. MENU: The selection of ice cream flavors is pretty good and the list of desserts is what you'd expect from an Italian ice cream parlor in Germany, with an emphasis on fruity creations. The ice cream itself will likely remain my favorite for the rest of my life. Made fresh at the cafe, it's deliciously flavorful without the cloying sweetness and density of its American counterpart. I don't know enough about ice cream to say for sure, but I have a feeling it's made with less sugar and butterfat than most of us are used to. SERVICE: Okay. Lobia seems to hire on a seasonal basis, so it's not unusual to see new faces there every so often. The staff is professional but can be low on graciousness: especially on busy summer days, the servers have a mildly harried look about them and don't often make eye contact or smile. PRICE: Within reason, but could be cheaper. I have lived in Bitburg long enough to see the price of a single scoop of ice cream go from 60 to 80 cents, and if Lobia's popularity holds, it may climb higher. You can get any of the Eisbecher for less than 10 Euros, but I particularly feel the priciness whenever I pay over 3 Euros for a small milkshake. As a result, I don't go there as often as I used to. Despite some shortcomings, this place's product is worth it. Check it out if you're within the Bitburg-Spangdahlem area.
