The infants are in the nursery, 2&3 year olds have a room, and preschool praise hosts preschool, as the name suggests. The elementary schoolers also have their own group, kid's worship, which also includes 6th graders. Once they are a bona fide 7th grader, they move to the Youth group. The Youth group now has it's own student center, where they also meet up every Wednesday evening, from around 6:00-7:30 (sometimes closer to 8:00.) The Youth group has a multitude of activities planned, and so does the church itself. One such event was a Ladies' Luncheon, where we talked about God, dating, and even had a wedding dress fashion show! Every Sunday there are two services, 9:30 and 10:30, as well as Life Groups. There is something for everyone, and it all focuses on God!

I say this even though I grew up attending a smaller church so much so that the pastor knew each and every family in the congregation. And I like that a lot. I have found that with some large churches with big video screens, big music speakers, big parking lots and big congregations and "campuses" that sometimes the teachings of Christ get somewhat lost in all the other noise. But that is not the case at James River. I have attended several services and the pastors here are teaching directly from the Bible, they are praying and worshipping and they are real about what church is for. They have a wonderful program that they did in May where you can fill a bag with non-perishable food, baby supplies and toiletries to fill a pantry for those in need. That is incredible to me and a very real way to worship. One thing about this church that my mom mentioned is how casual the dress is. If you are accustomed to putting on your Sunday best (we are) at James River Church, I advise that you should be prepared to stand out for being one of the best dressed in a sea of t-shirts, jeans and tennis shoes.

It is not a mission church that caters to the lost but is a fellowship of believers where everyone is welcome to sit in on and receive the Gospel truth. Where the focus is on the body of Christ and how to get us to a closer understanding of God and our purpose in life. The message does not spare the truth and to the lost it is offensive. The music is contemporary mix and lead by an incredibly gifted worship leader. The pastor sermons are available online and you will discover he will open the passages like you have never seen before locally. He has a doctrine in Christian Theology and has a great friendly personality. Not a lukewarm church. It practices church discipline when biblically called for just like the bible modeled. 9am Sunday school- 10am fellowship as break fast -10:30 service. Reformed theology. You either love it because it is a breath of fresh air compared to the modern churches, or you don't cause you can't handle the TRUTH. Hahaha.

Life Church has 3 Sunday morning services. 8:30, 10 and 11:30. I attended the 10:00am service. A few things took me by surprise. In order. 1) During the offering the pastor stated that if anyone was food insecure or had no place to stay to reach into the bucket being passed and take cash out if they needed it for food and or shelter. That is the first time in my entire life I have ever heard a pastor say that. That is such a true Biblical form of worship. Just beautiful. 2) When the sermon began I was so surprised to see the pastor was being broadcast on all 3 screens. I didn't see that coming and I was kind of curious where the pastor went? Mainly I was curious if I was watching a recording or a live sermon? Where did he go? 3) I brought my Bible with me but the lights in the sanctuary were never turned on at any point so I didn't open it because of course I wouldn't have been able to see it anyway. The pastor had specific Bible verses pop up on all 3 of his screens as he highlighted them at certain points. He was very engaging as he discussed the book of Ruth in the Old Testament. I didn't stop at the counter but it looks like after service they hand out packaged snacks and cups of iced tea. That's very nice.

I work at 10 am on Sundays, so it's been a struggle to find a "friendly" church that offers an early service. We researched CCC and attended for the first time this morning. We really enjoyed it. They greeted us as soon as we walked in, very friendly, music was good, and we were fed by the preaching. What more could a person ask for :)
