We found all of those things at WPC and became official members a year later. This is a church that inspires us to action and has given us ways to teach our kids about helping the homeless, hungry, and lonely in the north shore. The focus isn't so much on the church as a building, but as a group of people who can make a difference. During quarantine, the weekly service has been broadcast on Vimeo so our family still has a routine each week for some spiritual reflection together.

The minister had a good sense of humor, told some personal stories about my friend and her husband, and avoided any outdated sexist language. two small quips - - only two one-person bathrooms for a church that holds a lot of people: need more! - why must all protestant churches have hard pews!? all in all though, it was pretty chill, as a church ceremony goes.

Quaint in the way, rich people can be quaint. Not rustic, nor shabby (chic), but purposeful, we have gobs of money--quaint. I attended a wedding of a dear friend in this little charmer and the hubs and I were impressed at the word go. The church itself is tucked away in the neighborhood barely distinguishable from the perfectly manicured mansions on either side. It is, however, the oldest non-denominational church in the United States. This little tidbit served my pals well as one was Catholic and the other was...not. Obtuse and treating me like a scheister I wasn't trying to sound like this, there's natural panic in my voice because of the emergency situation I've endured these past 5 days. He said I should contact a church that's closer to my community in Chicago because he couldn't help at all. When I responded, "but Chicago is heartless, which is why I have contacted a church in the 'burbs instead." He snapped back, "CHICAGO IS NOT HEARTLESS! Chicago is NOT heartless. Nope, it's not.
