We had used Chris on a couple of other jobs before asking him to paint the exterior of our new home. When he came out to give us an estimate, he informed us that he would need to use an additional crew as our house was large and he had lost most of his team (which could have been a red-flag looking back on this). We agreed and the work began about a month later. The other company he contracted with did almost all of the work and they did an incredible job. Chris was only on the premises a few times for a few hours at a time - which we were ok with since the work was getting done to our satisfaction. On what was supposed to be the last day of work, both the superintendent of the other company and Chris were at my house until about 8:00 at night trying to complete the job. Chris had asked me earlier to pay out the other company that day, which we agreed to do because the work was close to being completed. However, by the time they finished, it had been dark out for hours and we couldn't see the completed product. We asked if we could wait until the next day and the superintendent of the other company readily agreed - saying that he understood completely. Chris looked furious. Both agree to come out in the afternoon the next day. We found several issue areas in the morning that were overlooked simply because of a lack of light. When the superintendent arrived, he was apologetic and eager to fix what was still wrong. He jumped right in to do the work around noon. Around 4:00 Chris arrived, just as I was doing a final walk around the house with the superintendent on the paint job, and we were satisfied with the work there. Now all that remained was to clean up the windows and the concrete. Chris had brought the pressure-washer to help. He proceeded to pressure wash around our house and then got a phone call which clearly irritated him. He interrupted a conversation I was having with the superintendent and announced his immediate departure, quite rudely. Neither of us fought him on this, nor even said a word. At 8:00 that night the superintendent was finishing up the detail work. I went outside to ask how much longer he needed to stay and he informed me that he was almost done - just one more small thing and he would be completely satisfied with the work he had done for us. I thanked him profusely, told him that the check would be waiting for him and then went upstairs. Then I got a phone call from Chris. It may have been the most misogynistic conversation I have ever had with someone I have employed. He was angry that the superintendent was still there. I applauded the superintendent on his work ethic and informed Chris that he was almost done, and that the check for him was written and waiting on the counter. Then he told me in a cold, threatening manner - "go give it to him now." To which I calmly responded that the superintendent would be done in a few minutes. Then in a final demeaning, male chauvinistic tone he demanded "walk it out to him. You walk it out to him now." This is someone I employed. Who implied that I was keeping someone at my home against his will and threatening him with non-payment if he didn't comply. Neither of these suggestions were remotely true. Chris then hung up on me. The superintendent did his best to rectify Chris's horrific behavior by helping us install some lights on our home, but the damage was done. I highly suggest using Axis Painting and Sealants (530) 615-7038 for your painting needs. If you are a single-women, a wife, or the husband of a woman you care about, don't hire this man. Let's make a point of not rewarding those whose actions continue to disrespect women. read more

Don't make the same mistake we did: DO NOT HIRE CHRIS TAYLOR!  Most of the time I take bad reviews with a grain of salt--sometimes people have off days, one cannot please all the people all the time.  But I'd caution you against taking that approach with Taylor Painting. Chris Taylor is nothing if not consistent with regard to his lack of time management skills, his lack of communications skills and his inability to manage client expectations--and that means you'll most certainly end up with a job gone way late, shoddy clean-up work, and having rearrange your life to complete a job Chris over-promised on. Not to mention a vendor that *insists* on getting paid without issuing any apologies for the delays, mess and inconvenience as he lays waste upon your home and life in the process of getting the job done. If you take anything away from this review, run as fast as you can away from Taylor Painting and hire a true professional! Our key takeaways:  1. Chris over-commits and over-promises on what/when he can deliver ON TIME. Chris told us the paint job on our upstairs (including installing light fixtures in 3 bathrooms) would be done in 3 days. Well, as you probably guessed, it wasn't. Not only that, but Chris literally left gaping holes in our walls (see pictures) and only managed to install 3 of the 6 light fixtures. First, he wanted more money to get them done,complaining that it wasn't part of the scope of our original agreement. I reminded him that that was not at all true and that I purchased the light fixtures in advance of him starting the job *entirely because* he said he could install them as part of our job. I never would have run out and spent $700 on lights the weekend before the job started if he hadn't committed to installing them. Second, after he begrudgingly agreed to install the lights, he did such a shitty job, I knew I wasn't going to have him touch them again. He spackled a 3-4 inch hole, which ended up going concave and cracking down the middle (see pics) and even I knew that the job needed a complete re-do with a proper patch, texturing and paint. The lights wobbled when touched (I changed the bulbs) and after the petulance with which he agreed to complete the light install, I had serious misgivings about whether the lights were secure in the wall. I had visions of them falling out of the wall in the middle of the night. So, I knew I was going to hire someone else to re-do all the lights. On both our exterior job and the interior job, he ran over by 1-2 days and that includes a few late nights when he cut into our kids' bedtime routines (on school nights of course). On the interior job, it became pretty clear to me by day 2 that he wasn't going to complete the job on time and I started asking him when he thought he could finish, because I had scheduled a housecleaner to come the day after they were supposed to be done to clean up all the paint dust (they sprayed the ceilings and literally everything in the house was covered in paint dust) and all the bits of drywall from the light installs.  He *promised* to show up early (730am Thursday) and get it all done. Well, Thursday came and went and by 4pm he STILL hadn't touched the lights!  On top of it all, he straight up told me he could care less that he screwed up the cleaning schedule, saying that "It is none of my concern that the *housecleaner* has to come back another day." First of all, what kind of messed up, holier-than-thou individual has the right to boondoggle the CLIENT'S schedule? He also had the nerve to blame ME for not being able to be there for the final Thursday night walk through, even though it was an unplanned work delay on his part and and I had made myself available ALL the other scheduled days of the job.   After all this insanity, I left the ball in Chris's court to try to come collect payment (we hadn't settled the bill yet bc he left before I got back Thursday + never came on Friday, like he said he would, to finish the work and get paid). So I waited . .  and waited . . .He finally texted me Monday afternoon, to GET PAID. I was busy with work that day and didn't respond, so he *showed up* on my doorstep at 430pm demanding to be paid! I told him straight up that the job wasn't done and he wasn't able to barge in here right now, at 430pm, to get the work done. (The cleaner was here again after having to reschedule for Chris's delays and I was on a work deadline). And he got ANGRY, spoke down to me (I'm a woman, which appears to be his MO as well), was patronizing, sarcastic in a blood-boiling way, and EXTREMELY aggressive. I've got the entire 20 minute heated exchange on video (doorbell camera) . . . and it was shocking to me to watch it after the fact. The most shocking, for me, was that throughout all of this, he NEVER apologized, never took ownership for his failures, never showed any remorse for what went wrong, just nothing. Chris started out good but finished terrible which I should have figured out before I hired him since he doesn't return calls nor emails but knows how to text and respond if you text him constantly. Started on a Wednesday for a 3 day job before Easter/my birthday. Didn't finish until the following Wednesday including working until evening on Saturday. For the sanding and prep, appeared to have enough guys. However, to finish the job, it was two guys who kept telling me that more are on their way but never came. On Friday, one of Chris's guys, Tyler, got ill DVD couldn't finish. Chris knew nothing about until I told him. Tyler and his single helper came on Saturday and stayed until 7pm, making our lives hell since we have small kids who needed to sleep. There were so many issues with Chris that I lost count. Here are a few just listed: paint constantly chipping (he came back and "re-did" some but his quality is crap. His workers are much better but I don't want this guy back at my home and will fix myself. When he "re-did" his work, the moron put the open paint can on a top shelf where I didn't notice until my garage smelled life fumes. Despite the fact that the paint he used was a lacquer and very flammable sitting adjacent to my water heater, the idiot put it open on a top shelf near the edge without my knowledge and could have caused quite a mess. What a Moron), don't know if he's sexist but obviously treated my wife much differently than me (she said something and then I noticed the drastic obvious difference in how he addressed me vs. my wife), made more than one comment about how noisy my 1.5yr old and 3.5yr old when they stated after 6pm to finish when my kids go to sleep at 7, despite the many issues I discussed with him he still demanded that I pay him upon leaving in cash or check (part of the job was antique-ing which he claimed would be no more than 4 hours at $45/hr. Quoted 4 hours and took 2 days for the antique-ing. Told him I never pay in check not thru bill pay so I require an invoice or need to Credit Card. Tried to increase my bill with credit card where my reply was to craft an invoice and send it or figure out how to take card. Ultimately he took a card at 745pm on a Wednesday), cabinet doors screwed on incorrectly (loose, not in right position, and in several occasions stripped screw and thread), didn't reattach outlet covers completely (one was still hanging off where it looks like he started the screw and then stopped when it was barely screwed in, like barely finger tight), missed several touch ups, barely cleaned up his mess, and generally did poor work with little to no communication unless I hunted him down to ask. I don't know if he got over his head with our job or what but he seemed to know a bit about the paint at the first meeting and was likable. Unfortunately, he finished terribly and would never recommend o hire him again. Not happy with his work and want nothing to do with him. Perhaps he has some socially awkward disability and just can't function on schedules, with women, or with quality. Don't make my mistake and hire someone who can actually stick to their word and do the job that he was hired to do in a manner that we expected. For the record, he was not cheaper nor more expensive than the others. We regret using him to paint our cabinets (probably obvious after reading this) and should have picked someone else. I'm sure I'm missing some things in this review as I lost track of how horrible he was. To note, he also ruined my birthday and Easter because he couldn't hit a timeline. Terrible service and quality. Paint already chipping and this moron didn't screw the door hinges in tight enough. Every day I regret hiring this guy. Go somewhere else and you'll thank me. read more

Consistent with most of the other unhappy reviews, you do not want to hire Chris to be anywhere near your home/family. Chris Taylor is highly unprofessional, and, echoing the sentiments of many others here, aggressive. Much like what everyone else has said, when Chris shows up for an estimate he promises you the world. While at my house, Chris promised he would beat anyone else's price, so I was surprised when Chris sent me his estimate and it was much higher than I expected. About a week or so later when I informed Chris I would be using another company, he became angry and started bashing that company. At this same time Chris informed me that I owed him $500. Confused?! I asked him how I possibly owed him $500 and he said it was because he had his guys do some prep work on the outside of the house. That was odd, because I had never told him he got the job. When I explained I should not have to pay him considering the fact I had never told him to come over and do any work, he became very aggressive. He said, "I know where you and your family live". Chris was nice to work with but had several things I would not recommend from this service. He said he put me into the calendar and on the day he was suppose to show up he forgot that he had scheduled the service that day. He did however make It a priority to show up 2--3 hrs later. I had to rearrange my schedule to make this happen. Work was done somewhat to satisfaction with some spills and drippings on baseboards and black marks on walls that I had to point out to get fixed. Ceiling in kitchen should have been painted twice but didn't notice till after I paid because had to get him to fix so many other cleanups that needed to done and redone. Two things I objected to most is when he arrived at the house the next day before I got there, he was already in the premises. He claimed he got into in through the garage remote. However, I saw the screen in the back of house partly taken off. The workers had got in through the screen and window that they unlocked the night before! Beware of these types of practices! The other complaint was I found out after the job was done that the blinds were not removed when he painted the ceilings. (his workers did take them off before walls were painted) There was a thick coat of paint dusting ALL over the blinds that I just paid $40t0. to clean professionally! I called Chris to talk about it and left 2 emails and 1 phone call and he never called back to discuss or try to rectify the problem. A good company and professional company would always call back to work issues out with their customers! I was never rude or demanding. When I pay a high price for a service, I expect quality service and good customer care. Chris is a good guy but I would not recommend this company unless you make sure you have plenty of time to point out what needs to be fixed after the job and pay them only after the job is completely satisfactory. read more

About a year ago I hired Chris Taylor painting to paint newly installed crown molding, all of the ceilings and several rooms of my brand new home in Rocklin, CA. I also had him epoxy paint the three car garage floor. Chris's crew was great. They each were professional, friendly and did a great job. The job was done on time and for the price we agreed upon. What surprised me was that when the job was completed and now a year later I can not find any problems with the quality of work. When Chris completed the project he had a cleaning crew come in. When I moved in the the house was clean and the paint was beautiful. This past week I celebrated my first year in my new home and thought of all the people who helped me last year. I bought a new house and it had several colors on the walls that were not my taste, I decided to have the house painted on the inside and met with 3 different contractors. One of them being Mr. Taylor at Chris Taylor Painting. When he came to my home, he was very nice and professional, we walked through the entire house as I had yet to move in. I discussed with him in each room, what I was looking for. Mr. Taylor assured me that what I wanted was doable. i had already met with 2 other painting contractors and was very open with the prices they had quoted me. Mr. Taylor told me that he could paint the whole house and make it look fresh and new. He spent about an hour at my house going through. He then quoted me a price that was well below the other two contractors. It took me a few days to decide as I wanted to ensure that I did as much research as I could. Mr. Taylor was licensed and had sold his business very well. I felt I was in good hand's. I had reached out to Mr. Taylor several times prior to his starting work on my house to indicate my concerns about how much he would have to paint. He told me, "no problem, I will have my guys there and we can get it done in 2 1/2 days. I was on a very tight time frame due to my move in date and when my floors were being put it in. It turned out that my floor was put in early. I called Mr. Taylor to let him know that the house was available if he wanted to start early he could. He was scheduled to be there on a Monday, but was able to start the Thursday before.... Great, I thought....... His team/Him started on Thursday and did not complete until the following Tuesday night.... When I met Mr. Taylor at the house on Thursday to start the project, he indicated that he needed another 200.00 dollars for the ceilings even though I had expressed not only verbally, but in writing my concerns that it was more of a job than he thought. However, he kept assuring me that it would be fine. I agreed to the additional 200.00 dollars because I wanted to be fair and pay market value for a job I could be proud of in my new home...... WELL....... the below is a listing of the things that happened that as a small business owner, I would have gone to great lengths to not do and are very minor. 1. His staff, left my lights and doors unlocked every day after they finished, they used my previous drapes as drop cloths :(. If I had not gone to check I would have had doors and electricity open and blazing. In addition, the first day they started, I went and bought a bunch of drinks and ice for them as it was hot... 2. I requested to have them turn down my AC which I graciously left on as it was hot outside and I wanted to ensure they were comfortable. Mr. Taylor indicated that "he has an employee who likes to crank up the A/C when it is not his home" so I better set the temp for them and he would ensure they turned it off at night.... This did not happen..... 3. I did a walk through on Monday night with my friend as I wanted to ensure that Mr. Taylor and his crew had ample time to complete. When I walked through, none of the closets, nor cabinets nor bathrooms were complete. I sent Mr. Taylor a text with the things, I was expecting to see and noted that he may have planned to already take care of them. He never responded.... Instead, I received a call from him saying he never agreed to the bathrooms or closets or doors. I reminded him of our walk through of the house and the discussions we had...He merely said oh.. yes... and that he would touch up the areas that had heavy traffic... I said fine and I would read his estimate... I did and realized that the bathrooms were not on there.. fair enough and said then don't do it.... however the touch up all walls/common area was... 4. When Mr. Taylor came Tuesday evening to do a final walk through and take final payment, there were several items that needed fixing... His crew took a chunk of drywall at the top of stairs, he did not fix the cut in the molding, some baseboards were not done,, tear off from the paper had pulled paint off the wall. The wall above the cabinets were not finished, this he acknowledged on two different occasions and yet still not fixed. His way of fixing it was to use semi-gloss on matte finish and indicate I could buy more paint... He was even so kind as to order it for me so I could get his "discount" vs. paying for the can of paint he needed to make the fixes. 5. Materials, aside from using my drapes for drop clothes, they never covered all the carpet or windows, so now I have paint stuck on my cabinets and windows... I have to have them re-cleaned and hope that there is no permanent damage... So all and all--- The house was painted... however, I had to have someone else come back and fix it... My suggestion in the future would be to look past a pretty face and do an honest quote and then back it up. .. read more

Overall Chris Taylor's team did a great job. Except for the finishing touches. I pointed them out and thought they were taken care of. When they were finished, all Chris was interested in was getting paid. He was in a hurry to finish our house because he thought it took too long. Not our fault!!! He himself, the owner never did a final walk thru. We should have insisted! They left our front door unfinished. The metal fencing not completed, missed two sides. And our deck railing the paint was peeling off. They never sanded or prepped before painting over old paint. My husband and I had to spend a weekend fixing and finishing their mistakes. We sent Chris an email with pictures of the things wrong and he has never responded. I would never have written this bad review if he would have at least responded to my email. From beginning to end we were extremely happy with Chris Taylor and his crew. We recently purchased a house that was going to need the entire inside painted before moving in. From the first time I talked to Chris on the phone I was impressed with how much time he took answering my questions and how friendly he was. He was very flexible working around our tricky time tables, willing to come do the initial estimate with only 30 minutes notice. He also worked hard to make me happy with a color that I was unsure about after it was on the wall. My husband and I were in the house doing other work the day his crew was finishing up and everyone was professional and friendly. Chris and his team did excellent work and were very well priced based on all the phone calls I made. Wow! Chris and his team were awesome to work with. I needed a few areas of my house's interior walls touched up, but I didn't know the original color of the paint, so I expected to need to repaint the entire house. Chris stopped by to give an estimate, knew the color and brand of the paint just by glancing at it, and he did a swatch test to confirm his guess. So instead of a pricey whole-interior paint, he only needed to touch up a few locations. ... by the way, I got quotes from two other local painters, and I told them about Chris's guess for the paint color. They both refused to believe his swatch test and they tried to charge me for a whole house painting. My fourth estimate didn't even show up. Bah. Chris was early to every appointment we had, thorough with the final walkthrough, adhered exactly to his price estimate, and generally really sweet and friendly to work with. We purchased a home that had obscenely bright colors in the main living area. After getting quotes and meeting a few painting companies around town, I felt confident that Chris and his team where the right men for the job. Chris was warm, friendly, knowledgeable, and professional when he arrived to give an estimate. He gave me a bid right away after assesses my project and offered advice on a few key areas that I wouldn't have thought about on my own. After choosing a few colors Chris arrived with the color cards and gave me ample time to decide on what colors I would go with. In addition, he arrived a few days early to do prep work so that our house was ready to go the day of the job. Chris's team was professional, worked fast, did an excellent job. We were very pleased with not only how much the color changed our house, but with how nicely the job looked when finished. Chris even came back by the next afternoon to address a couple of concerns that I had. It's always hard to turn over home projects to the pros as you don't know if they will truly follow through with what they promise. As cliche as this sounds, Chris Taylor Painting turned our new construction house into a home. I actually didn't like the house until I walked in and saw how amazing the paint looked. It transformed the white box into a beautiful cool oasis. If I only got one word to describe Chris Taylor and his crew it would be trustworthy. We were building a home in Roseville but lived in the Bay Area, so I called Chris and he went to the model home and sent us a price quote. Then three months later he picked up our keys from the builder, painted our 2500 sq. ft home in 3 days and did it all to perfection! It's hard to trust people with the keys to your home, but Chris was a consummate professional. He gave regular updates on his progress and even sent a video when the paint was complete. He came in our new 2300 square ft house and set up fast. He never nicked or bumped our walls carrying in his equipment, and did an awesome job with his prep work. My girlfriend and I hired Chris Taylor to paint the trim on our home back in November 2017. He came out and gave us a quote and we decided to move forward with the services. His crew came out and did the job and once it was "done" my girlfriend who was the only one home at the time paid for the job. Upon further inspection we noticed that there was some touch up that needed to be done so Chris came out and agreed that he would complete the job as promised. My girlfriend contacts him the next week and he says he can't paint in the rain which is understandable. He said he would contact us when the weather cleared up. If you live here in Roseville or Rocklin you'll remember we didn't get very much rain and he could have come back out at any point to finish the job. Fast forward to May 2018. I finally call and it took a little explaining but then he remembered the previous conversation. This was on a Thursday and he said he would come by Friday to finish the job. Get home Sunday evening and nothing has been done. I call Monday morning and his reasoning was sorry we got busy. I get that and I explained regardless a courtesy call to reschedule would have been the professional thing to do. He said okay and that he would come out that day. I get home and once again it doesn't look like anything had been done. I call and he explains what he did. I am looking around as I was on the phone with him and could clearly tell that he was lying to me. I know what a fresh coat of paint looks like. Bottom line do not hire this joke of a painter. You will be disappointed not only by the work he does but also by his lack of professionalism. read more

My mom always said 'If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all'. I've written and rewritten this review six times. ***EDIT: After less than 2 years I am dealing with peeling paint around my doors and windows. I would love to post the photos, but don't see an option. I have photos of: Peeling paint around doors and windows, two wasp nests they painted over (even though Chris himself 'power-washed' the house), and my front door that received a half-assed partial layer of paint, and even though he bought paint to do so, Chris never finished the job and took the paint with him. When called out on the corrections needed he became a misogynistic ass. I would have insisted he return a third time to finish the job properly, but I don't want him or his guys on my property ever again. I'm considering a small-claims suit. read more

This was a rental house which was unfortunately rented to the "candle burning" parents of the century who not only decided to take it upon themselves to paint the doors and trim a God awful ugly blue, but also allowed their kids to draw on the walls and put hundreds of stickers all over the doors, walls, etc. I called Chris randomly after searching the internet. He answered right away and was over at the house within an hour. He called me from the site and walked me through what it needed. I was honestly expecting to have to hire a carpenter to replace all the doors, base and trim in the house. Chris explained that he could sand all the stickers off and save the doors. He gave me a price right over the phone which was extremely reasonable, especially in light of having to fix drywall holes and all the smoke/soot on the walls and ceilings. He was able to schedule our job about a week out, suggested paint colors and even corrected me when I thought he had made a mistake on the estimate indicating that he would paint the walls "Navajo White" and the trim/base in "Swiss Coffee". Who would ever think that "Swiss Coffee" is actually the white and "Navajo White" is well... tan? Hello... Kelly Moore... did you name those on April 1st? Chris showed up as scheduled, completed the job and sent me photos as they were finishing up. He even had his crew rehang the closet doors that the tenant had removed. I hired this company after meeting the owner and he came across as professional and fairly priced. I didn't realize though that he wouldn't even be doing any painting himself. As soon as the job was completed he showed up to collect payment and I pointed out many areas the painters had missed or messed. He somehow didn't seem to notice any of them, but he quickly fixed them. I then paid him. Within a short time I noticed more missed areas but he wouldn't even reply. It's too bad. He obviously knows his business, and the paint job was fine in the end, but his lack of concern for me as a customer was surprising and negative. read more

They didn't do a bad job, just not a great job. The prep work was lacking. The tried painting over paint that was peeling. Why they didn't scrape it off and do it right I don't know. They also took much longer then they said. I understand being busy, but it got frustrating after a week and a half. For the price, I shouldn't have to be calling him everyday to get answers on why stuff is not done. It got done, but to many painters out there to have to deal with the problems. read more

Taylor Painting just finished up painting our house - inside and out - about 1.5 weeks ago. They did a great job, were very detailed/thorough, and very accommodating as we made two changes to paint color while they were in process of painting.
