As I walked my bike down Cornwallis today in search of some new and off my beaten track places to…read morereview, I let out an audible sigh and grumbled to myself: 'Why do developers insist on gentrifying the North End? The brightly coloured homes and funky old shops have so much more going for them than the new pre-fab soulless monstrosities that are cropping up everywhere...' And thus my lament for old Halifax continued until I stopped to read the sign for the Glubes Loft Townhouses! The people behind Glubes are trying to create eco-urban housing in the downtown core! Specifically, they are trying to incorporate: old georgian architectural style (the style of the afore mentioned colourful houses... they even "adaptively reused" huge chunks of the preexisting building in the form of douglas fir beams), insulated and energy efficient technology, a mixture of small and large style units that are stacked specifically with space optimization in mind, therefor taking up less land, insulating shutters, and finally these condos are located in the downtown core! I saw numerous bikes attached to the outer railings of these homes, indicating that people living here are doing away with vehicles in favor of living downtown! The best part of all though is that these units are priced in a fairly reasonable margin for people in their late 20's/early 30's. $130,000 you could not buy most condos for my friends! Overall, I was delighted to see this eco-shift at work in the downtown core of Halifax today! (Can you tell I want to live in a Glube?)

There was a water leak in our ceiling which left gross brown spots everywhere. They refused to paint over it. We had mice and cockroaches. They did not deal with the problem in a timely manner or at all. We ended up having a cockroach infestation and had to move out. I went home for the COVID lockdown beforehand and while the apartment was empty, the mice moved in. The ruined all of our curtains and blankets and rugs. We lost 1000s. The whole apartment smelled like garbage and weed. They did not take noise complaints seriously. DO NOT LIVE HERE. killam are a bunch of crooks.

My personal experience with this apartment building and with the Killam REIT management was…read moreterrible. Firstly, the day we arrived to move in, our apartment was not ready. We had confirmed this apartment 6 months in advance and I confirmed 1 week and 2 days prior to our arrival that my husband and I would be moving in that afternoon. The walls were not painted, the apartment had trash lying in the middle of the room. This interrupted our moving process since we had hired help to unload our truck and caused major issues. Afterwards and throughout our stay, we have maintenance issues - windows, leaks, etc., which were addressed only after calling multiple times or sending multiple emails to management to address them. We had bed bugs. The heat was always on in the building and it was nearly 30 degrees year round, even in summer which was almost unbearable. The most grievous incident was that management tried to get us to pay an additional month's rent that we did not owe. At first they claimed we needed to renew our lease for a whole year, but then after we showed the email evidence that we had put in notice, they said that we owned them for just one more month. We put in notice about 7 months before our lease was up, notifying them that we would not be renewing our lease. We did this again 5 and then 3 months beforehand and yet they still claimed we owed them for an additional months' rent. We had to file a claim with the tenancy board and have a hearing before we were able to ensure they would not charge us another months' rent. Lastly, they overcharged us for our parking the last month that we were at the apartment. We were going to get a prorated rate since we were not there for the entirety of the last month and we had an email record indicating that we would be charged less than usual, but they still overcharged us. I had to put in a better business bureau claim in order to get our money back. I IMPLORE YOU: Please review the track record for this place. It is awful. I would never, ever recommend this place to anyone. It was miserable to stay here. I am so grateful that we are out now. I will never, ever stay in a Killam apartment again.
