FS8 located along Sheppard Ave E. near Greenbriar Rd. is a fitness studio/brand (from the same…read moreowners as F45) where their workouts combine pilates, tone, and yoga, providing a more low-impact but effective workout focused on functional strength and breathwork. This is their first location in the GTA, where it is right next to an F45 location. The name FS8 stands for "functional style" where the 8 represents the 8 key fitness elements that the brand embodies - cardio, mobility, posture, coordination, resistance, mental health, balance, and flexibility. FS8 offers a few different classes which incorporates different elements of yoga and pilates - the OG, blast, reform, remix, and flex. Each of these workouts mixes up different core principles of the 8 fitness elements the brand stands for. The workouts use a mix between mat work as well as utilizes the reformer machine while incorporating a variety of props. Grip socks are required for class. Prior to their opening, I had purchased a 5 pack intro class pack deal as I was curious about their studio. I didn't realize that FS8 was part of the F45 franchise at first but I often find it nice to incorporate pilates/yoga workouts into my already packed workout schedule. Pricing wise, FS8 offers memberships or class packs. The pricing is listed below (pre-tax): - Unlimited monthly - $375 - Limited 12x/month - $300 - Limited 8x/month - $220 - Limited 4x/month - $120 - Single class - $45 - 10 class pack - $375 - 20 class pack - $700 - 50 class pack - $1600 I've taken 3 classes so far with different trainers/instructors as I wanted to give it some time before I gave my thoughts on this place. I workout at other fitness studios (HIIT, pilates (both mat and reformer) as well as yoga classes) so I am not used to the way how FS8 does their workouts. The trainer guides the class verbally, however, they are cued by a workout video shown on multiple screens throughout the room (the video also visually shows an example of how the workout move is done as well as times the class). The classes aren't designed by the instructors but the FS8 company instead. No music is used and there are no mirrors are in the studio as well. The FS8 space is nice, well lit and clean. Upon entering, you do want to change into your grip socks - there is a small bench for you to sit at. In terms of this studio, there are about 12-14 stations which combine workouts on the mat or reformer. There are storage lockers for your belongings in the front and back of the studio, however, they do not lock. There is an accessible washroom/changeroom and showers available if you would like to shower afterwards. Towels are also available if you need one while you workout. In terms of the workout, the class often starts with an intro and then quick stretch. The workout begins where each exercise is done for a minute with a 20 second transition period. The workout ends with a few stretches. Each class is 50 min long. Class usually goes by quickly but it's hard to take a break if you want one (you're welcome to take a break to drink water whenever, but you may miss out on the time doing that particular exercise). I do appreciate that there is usually a second trainer in the room assisting everyone, making sure everyone is doing the move correctly and has proper form. I also do find that some of the class participants already go to the F45 next doors, giving the studio a sense of community already. Each of the instructors/trainers I've had often introduced themselves prior to class and were encouraging throughout. Overall, a different type of workout to incorporate into my workout schedule. I'm still unsure if I will continue to pay for classes after my intro class pack is done but it is a good low-impact option when you want to switch up your workouts. Class sizes are small and the instructors/trainers are attentive, making sure to correct any form or provide suggestions to you during your workout.
