I used to get my hair cut at Jan's all the time when I lived in the area. They do both men's and…read morewomen's hair, and prices are rock bottom. You will be amazed. They also won't try to trick you into getting more done than you want done, like some hair salons do. When I frequented this place, about a year ago, a men's dry cut was about £6, and a women's dry cut about £8. You won't get much better than that. I challenge you! The staff are friendly, and although super chatty (which kind of annoys me at times) they always have a bit of gossip to listen in on.

I like my barbershops to be simple and no frills and this is exactly what I got here. The staff were friendly but they got the line right between being chatty and annoying which meant I was given a good haircut but in the peace I craved. The prices were decent here and on the whole it was a very good experience to have a haircut here in friendly and well kept surroundings. I would recommend this place to men of Liverpool who are searching for a simple no fuss haircut which leaves you satisfied.

If you don't mind living with split ends for slightly longer, this little salon is great. It can be…read morequite hard to get an appointment in due to its popularity. The service is great, with an endless supply of tea/coffee and friendly staff and excellent hairdressing. If you want a colour it can take a while but not really much longer than any other salon. One major plus about this salon is you will find friendly and chatty staff to keep you occupied but none of the usual "have you been on holiday recently?" - my major pet hate!

Avant Garde on Queens Drive is both a men's (on the first floor) and ladies hair and beauty salon…read more Prices are fairly average. I am not particularly adventurous, I don't get colour or perms, but a cut and finish generally does me nicely. If you go for a graduate stylist it will cost you £17.50 which I just can't complain about. The final finish is pretty good. If you want to go for the top of the top (the director) you will have to pay £31-34 which I still cannot complain about. I have paid £45 before, at other hairdressers. I haven't had any treatments at Avant Garde but there is a good selection - hydro-active mineral salt scrub, enzymatic sea mud wrap, body therapy hydro pack, body massages (full body or back, neck and shoulders), hair removal, tanning, eyes, hands and feet, nail enhancement and ear piercing. I think the scrub and mud wrap sound pretty good!

The outside of this establishment doesn't look great and the inside decor is far from impressive also. The staff here are friendly enough but they seem to have a sense of self importance which does not really match the surroundings that this salon is in. In essence this is the kind of place you can find in local communities all over the country yet Tony's seems to think it is better than the rest without really doing much to back up the point. The prices here are a little above average for a service which is not and the waiting times can be extensive. If this was a simple and unpretentious hairdresser which claimed to be simply that, then it would be fine but my only problem is that Tony's thinks it is so much more. One word best describes Tony's pretentious.
