Great little place for a quick chuck wagon and fries with an awesome dessert of hot fudge cake. Went there for lunch a couple of days ago and it was so busy, couldn't get in. All the tables were full and the line to order was to the door. It is a run of the mill,small town,greasy spoon,hamburger joint.The food is average,nothing particularly stands out on their menu.Last time I went there,they seemed not to know how to react to someone having a service dog.Even after I told them,I would look up over at the women behind the counter to see them eyeballing me.(Not conducive to a comfortable dining experience)It has been in Milan for years,but that does not make it special,just familiar.The clientele usually consists of good ol boys and elderly people.The staff is a mix of women who should be of retirement age already or teenybopper girls. A MUST STOP. Chow Wagon is everything you want in a local restaurant. People are nice, food is delicious, you won't spend a lot of money, and you're bound to run into someone you know. Have been many times but stopped last week while in town with my family. We all had double cheeseburgers and fries. I'm a sucker for crinkle fries and these were straight out of the fryer. The double cheeseburger was delicious. For dessert, we split the hot fudge cake. It was more than enough for three people and was incredible! I can't recommend enough. read more

Chow Wagon was a staple in Milan and then it sold and of course nothing stayed the same just the name. Can't get any sandwich without getting burnt bread, may get what you ordered or something totally different. Used to have the best fries now, 50/50 chance of being good at best. Hot Ham & Cheese was one of the best items on the menu. Now the ham is terrible not the same as it used to be now soggy with burnt bread. Ice cream and shakes are still great for now. So sad to see such a great business die a slow death. Businesses are often bought with the lie of not changing anything however, businesses are actually bought TO make changes and unfortunately this was the case with Chow Wagon and Milan may have lost a great restaurant. Never thought Sonic would ever have a better burger. read more

Used to be great. New owner, smaller portions and less experienced cooks. The food is not at all the same quality as it used to be. Almost consistently the fries are overcooked and kept out forever or something. They are hard shells with no potato at that point. The burgers are ok on a good day. read more

If I could give a negative rating I would, we waited over half an hour for one meal.... We saw people who came through the drive through when it was full to the road come in after us and leave 10minutes before we received our food, the people taking the order acted as if it was a chore and by the time we had waited 30minuyes for our food it was cold. This is the absolute last place I would go to eat or recommend to anyone read more

The food is decent, I would definitely not come back tho. Dirty looking, especially dirty tables and the girl who takes the orders can barely hear you because is a really small place! Just basic fast food, nothing special and honestly just go and get a burger at Sonic, the staff is not friendly but they're not rude either. My wife and I were in the area for a few days and looking at all the food options we decided this would be the "local favorite" place to try based on reviews. We also find it hard to pass up a really good burger. The place is small seating about 44 if totally full. They do have some tables outside that would be great with nice weather. The place is your average small town burger joint that with the proper decor would remind you of the 50's malt shops. We both ordered the cheeseburger and fries. Service was good and friendly. I do have to admit my wife and I were both a little underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong there was nothing at all wrong with the food it was just not any better than going to Sonic. We both commented to each other that it reminded us of Sonic but we would most likely rather have a Sonic burger. I did not order a shake or a malt on this trip but the next time I am in the area I will give it a try. I did see another table order Sliders. I am not sure how they were listed on the menu on the wall but I do know I want to try these next time. I will be back but will be trying something different. I'm gonna be honest... they have gone down hill. Every time I have gotten fried mushrooms they have been soggy. They used to be crisp and hot but now they are soggy and lukewarm!! I have gotten them 3 times and they always ended up like that. Also I have heard that the food is not being cooked all the way through which is gross.. please chow wagon! I have been coming here for about 12 or so years, since I started working in Milan during college. Even after that job ended, I always found myself passing through and planning to stop at Chow Wagon. My mom and I even split the distance between our two towns and meet for lunch on Saturdays occasionally. I always look forward to deciding what to choose off the menu- everything I have had is great. This is Milan's greasy spoon joints. They have salads and cold sandwiches but I've never tried them before. I always end up getting the not so healthy fare this joint is know for and does very well. Service is friendly and outstanding. They will take the time to explain their large menu and help you choose a great meal. When I'm in Milan I always end up stopping at the Chow Wagon. read more

I have to stop eating meat so I was nervous about going to a burger joint, but they had a beautiful salad with fresh real tomatoes, they had to be local so much better than bland watery tomatoes you usually get. The fried green beans were yummy too, you could really taste the beans. My folks had chicken salad sandwiches, they said they were tasty. Chow Wagon is a great little place for fast food. Try the club sandwich with an order of onion rings. All the workers really hustle to get the food out. This is the place in town for a great greasy burger. It's a local treasure, and they have a large menu, mostly burgers with some chicken and hot dogs. The shakes are good, but they sit a little heavy. Come here if you're tired of the other fast food options in town, but I don't make detours just to eat here. read more

This place has went downhill over the years, not the same great food and service that I grew up with. Last night I ordered through the drive-thru, a patty melt with tater tots and drink. Nothing fancy, pretty simple order, but at a cost of nearly $10.00...which is very overpriced for the quality and amount of food you get. As I sat at the window, waiting for my order, I noticed the young female cook use a metal spatula to "scoop" some lard out of a plastic tub to put on the grill. The lard fell from the spatula onto the work counter, which she proceeded to scrape off and fling onto the grill. It was disgusting to say the least. What's even more questionable is that I never saw her cook my tater tots, but what i did see was her pouring several tater tots from one paper carton container to another. It makes me question if they were leftover from another customer or just old tots. To add to the questionable food practices, it was only a few tots or less that were given to me. After receiving my food I immediately drove right back around to the parking lot and went inside to speak with the older lady, whom I assume was the owner or manager. My first question was if the order I received was an adequate amount of food worthy of $10. She promptly took the tots from me and replied, "this only looks like half". She took them back to the kitchen and advised they would be making me more, then went on to explain a small order receives 12 tots and a large receives .... I asked if they seriously sit back there and count out 12 tots every order (which is petty to say the least), because if that was the case one of her workers can't count past 6. I even asked the young lady that bagged my food and gave it to me how could she not have noticed what she was putting in the bag was unacceptable. She only shrugged her shoulders and gave me a rude look. The manager/owner (or what I assume her to be) never once apologized and didn't seem to care one way or the other, so instead of advising her any further of the disgusting food practices in the kitchen (which she is probably already aware of) I decided to just leave, never go back, and write this review. This all may sound trivial to you, but my first job was in the fast food industry right here in Milan. None of this would have been acceptable then, 20 years ago, and it shouldn't be acceptable now. Take pride in where you work, whether it is the drive thru of a fast food mom and pop restaurant or a billion dollar company. The food is overpriced and mediocre at best, the service is terrible, and the employees don't care about their customers....and it shows with every visit. read more

OK, we're talking burgers and fries here, not rack of lamb at a 5 star snooty restaurant. But burgers and fries are an American staple and this place does it as well as it can be done. Let's just say it's their core competency, and they do it well. Great cheeseburgers, with everything fresh and carefully assembled, fries and onion rings done to perfection of outside crispiness and hot and tender inside. The milkshake was as good as any I've ever had. Combine that with fast, attentive service, and it made for a very pleasant dining experience. Bravo. read more
