We were pretty full from our lunch, but upon arriving, our bellies were at once again ready to go! I'm more of a fruit tart type of gal, so I went for the Lemon Tart (6.8). The others had the Brownie & Passionfruit Chocolate Gateau (8.6) and the Hazelnut Millefeuille (8.6). We essentially shared our desserts, so I got to try all three! I loved the Lemon Tart, as it was neither too sweet or sour, and I love tart pastries! Although it's difficult to go wrong with a lemon tart - there definitely wasn't any added or artificial flavor that shouldn't have been there. The Hazelnut Millefeuille was also delicious, as it reminded me of a Ferrero Rocher. It was definitely richer, so it was difficult for me to have too much, but puff pastry always does it for me. The brownie cake was also really delicious, and was a good balance of all the flavors, especially with the layer of passionfruit. They do an afternoon coffee and dessert special for $9 that we should have done, but we didn't see it until after! The place actually reminded me a bit of a petit Le Bon Choix in Brisbane, but definitely with better tasting desserts and better service!

On display behind immaculately clean glass were dozens upon dozens of colorful and perfectly delectable French pastries. The Mister Green Tea (what a witty name for a cake) caught my eyes immediately. Absolutely enchanting with perfectly crafted raspberry jam and gold leaf on top of a faint green tea cake, it completely stole my breath away. Upon looking closer, the tiny pastries were made with black sesame sable base and green tea mousse. And as I bit into it, I found the center filled with luscious raspberry cremeux. Everything about it is a testament to perfection and deliciousness! I also got their Matcha Latte, and it was just as sensational as the rest of the desserts. That green tea was light yet rich, slightly bitter to counter the sweetness of the cakes. Beautiful in both presentation and taste! The price may be quite steep for such a small plate of dessert ($9.90) and a cup of latte ($6), but to find a rare gem like this certainly makes up for once in a lifetime experience.

There are a select few (small) tables for you to sit at and have your espresso with a delicious biscotti whilst you read a paper; or you may just want to sit back and watch the steady stream of clientele come in for their cannoli fix and pick up their pre-ordered desserts. Which ever way you choose to enjoy this place, you will walk out with tantalised taste buds and surprisingly relaxed. Heads up, the coffee here is pretty good too. As a child growing up in the North West I had my fair share of Cannoli and continental cakes and I have to say I was never a big fan of the slightly soggy cannoli shell filled with sickly sweet custard, this is saying something as I am quite the sweet tooth. So fast forward 15 years and here I am in Footscray and I thought I would roll the Cannoli dice again and WOW what an awesome surprise it was. Freshly filled in store with beautiful ricotta filling I fell in love with the crispy shell and delicious filling. Since then I have to say I have had a bit of an ongoing love affair with the family at T.Cavallaro who are always amazingly friendly, have yummy new biscuits to try and ice chocolates/coffees to have in their small shop. I adore it here, it makes me feel like I am sitting in an italian loungeroom having a chat and a snack. It really is a tiny bit of italy in the food bowl that is Footscray :)

Proper cup not takeaway 3.5's…read more I've been to this Michel's once on a different occasion then today (Aug 11th.2016) and they had always made the drinks and served in a proper cup for sit down purposes. This time I mentioned I was sitting inside... and it came to me in a paper cup as you notice from my pic. ..... Although, I found that the owner was very understanding.. I suggested that next time to consider patron suggestion and to think of what needs to be considered next time. Their deli case has quite a few amazing cakes for celebratory parties! And a few people had been their at the counter putting cake orders in. So can't be all bad.

That was a different time and a different Michel's but the one in Barkly Square in pretty much the same deal, and it feels just as naughty eating one of their sausage rolls or chicken pies as it used to. The problem is Michel's at Barkly Square is in the thoroughfare between my grocery store and supermarket and one end of the shopping centre, and the Asian supermarket at the other end of the shopping centre, which means I have to walk past the hot food counter at Michel's to get anywhere. And I know you're not meant to go food shopping when you're really hungry, but that is usually the trigger for me - hungry, no food at home, go to supermarket. So yes, I do sometimes let temptation win over steely resolve and I'll get a mini sausage roll to keep me company on my walk from Coles to the Asian supermarket. It doesn't taste anything special, it is certainly not gourmet, but it does remind me of finishing up at school for the day.

This place is in the top 3 of donut deliciousness that Melbourne is currently embracing in all it's glazed goodness. The donuts here are surprisingly light and fluffy. We ended up with a creme brulee and a jaffa. I'm still drooling at the thought of how good these were. The Jaffa truly captured the choc-orange flavouring without having either flavour dominate. The creme brûlée was a little on the ugly side to look at. A bit new born squished face. But all was forgiven after the first chomp into the doughy goodness. The cafe space here is within a warehouse zone. There's some great retro styling going on here. Beverage wise you can get brewed coffee, some cold drinks and some alcoholic drinks.

They are only open Fri and Sat 8am - 3pm (with Sunday being introduced soon) because they spend all week baking the ingredients - even the rubble and freckles are hand made. It's too die for. Five flavours alternating each week. Soft, Fluffy, Sweet and seriously yummy!! The donuts are made on site and you can see the bakers working their magic and smell the sweet aromas drifting from the kitchen. There is coffee available but you'll have to excuse my ignorance for not knowing exactly what brand. I made the wise choice to quit caffeine drinks some years back. I think it could be an Ethiopian brand. Nothing else for sale yet though just donuts and coffee. Whatever you do make sure you roll heads to get the coffee glaze with passionfruit curd and chocolate rubble because it will change your life, it appeared popular and was running out quickly. My advice is to be at the door by 8am. All flavours will be available and you'll be able to buy a stash. By the time we got there it was mid arvo and max purchase of two each. A big bunch of poor buggers behind us missed out. If you want to take a little rest and watch the rows of people pass in and out then just take a seat indoors at the many available tables. Keep kicking goals Brunswick and welcome to the hood All Day Donuts!!
