Anna was very sweet and did try to correct the styling when she realized I was unhappy, which I appreciated, but ultimately the experience did not feel like the specialized curly service I had booked and paid for. UPDATE: The owner reached out after my experience and offered me a complimentary appointment with another curly hair specialist. I decided to give the salon another chance, and I'm very glad I did. My second experience was completely different. I was extremely happy with my hair and, just as importantly, I left feeling educated about my curls and confident that I could recreate the results at home. My stylist took the time to explain the techniques and products that worked best for my hair, which was exactly what I had hoped for from the beginning. I really appreciate the owner listening to my concerns and making an effort to make things right. While my first experience was disappointing, I'm very happy with how the salon handled the situation and with the service I received the second time around. It just feels like a place where great things happen. Booking was quick and easy through their online platform. I arrived early and was taken exactly at my appointment time for a haircut. I told Angela my priorities - I wanted to cut off as little as possible (a "baby trim" she called it) and I wanted to touch up my long layers. I was immediately at ease when I saw her take what can only be described as the tiniest snip off of my ends. She's skilled in her craft and is efficient with her time. What I left with was a chemical war zone on my scalp and hair that looked like it had been through a haunted car wash. The stylist completely botched my color. The stylist acted like they had never seen a toner in their life and honestly seemed like they were not in a sober state to be handling bleach or scissors or any other living creature for that matter. After spending over six hundred dollars and enduring two appointments from hell, my hair is still damaged beyond repair. Think straw with commitment issues. Do yourself a favor. Indira listened to exactly what I wanted and made sure she didn't cut any more hair than what we had agreed on, which I really appreciated. As for the color, since my hair is naturally very dark and we didn't use bleach, the highlights didn't show up as much as we had hoped after the first appointment. Before I even had a chance to say anything, Indira brought it up herself and told me that she wasn't happy with how little the color showed. She asked me to come back so we could try another type of color, which isn't as strong as bleach but would lift my hair color more and help achieve the reddish-brown highlights I originally wanted. After the second appointment, my hair color turned out amazing! I was really happy with the result, and Indira didn't charge me anything extra for having me come back and redo the color. I really appreciated how attentive she was to what I wanted, especially when it came to preserving my hair length and making sure I was happy with the final color. I tend to change my style a lot but Paige moves full force with me and never skips a beat. The salon itself is beautiful. You walk in and feel that this space is an extension of the people that have come together in it. It's warm and inviting and sets the tone for my experience. The walls are brought to life with collages from magazine clippings and dried flowers. I can sip a canned cocktail and chill out for a few hours and not feel a sense of rush or urgency. From the bleach treatment, my hair is extremely damaged and the red color faded after 3 washes in cold water/with color safe shampoo/conditioner. I contacted salon, and they redid the red color, and again the same fading happened. They also didn't use a toner at all during this process. I've gotten my hair done by a different stylist at a different salon to fix it, but the bleach treatment that was done at Homegrown was so damaging that no red color is sticking to my hair at all anymore. I've had my hair colored red before and never had any problems with the color sticking--but it was never bleached before that red. I paid $385 for the first color appt at Homegrown and tipped $80. Since then, I have tried and tried to contact Homegrown to get a refund as I've had to pay even more to try and fix it with a new stylist. Homegrown ghosted me after multiple people at their salon gaslighted me saying it was "my hair and hair changes" and that they were "writing down my message and would have management contact me". It's been weeks and I haven't heard anything back. Do not trust these people with your hair. Mine is now very damaged and there's nothing I can do to keep the red color I initially asked for.
