Eh. We got takeout. I wouldn't go here again. However, I gave it two stars rather than once since we ate until we were full. One star is reserved for food that I couldn't eat. We got the fried dumplings (pork and leek) and vegetable dumplings... The pork ones were pretty tasty. I liked the dipping sauce. However they had this weird crust around it... it looked like if you had put Parmesan on a frying pan and it became lace-like and crusty. But obviously it wasn't parm. That crust was kind of chewy and weird... the rest of it was good. The vegetable ones were weird and had chopped up noodles in them that made the filling dry, and it almost had the texture of cous cous. My mom took one bite and couldnt finish her dumpling. I poured sauce into it, and then it was merely OK. Crab rangoons barely had any filling in them, and they were chewy and hard to eat. The scallion pancakes were also chewy and kind of flavorless. The shrimp toast was ok... my Mom got that and she said she's had better but it was tasty. However, they were very small. The eggroll was also good, but I've had better. Finally, the wonton soup. That was the saving grace of this meal. The broth was light and not too salty, and the noodles were almost melt in your mouth, and not chewy or doughy like some places. It was good, but not good enough to make me go back there. If I was in the area and craving chinese and didn't want to drive anywhere (which is unlikely to ever be the scenario I'm in), I would probably go in here for the pork dumplings and some wonton soup. I love dumplings so obviously I had to check this place out. But unfortunately, this place falls short in many categories. I should have walked right back out of the restaurant as soon as I walked in and saw that there was no one in the restaurant at 130pm on a Saturday afternoon. The place just looked depressing. It was very dimly lit and the furniture they used is the kind you see high school kids set up in their basement for their hangouts with their friends. But who knows! Maybe that was the appeal of this place! I've had amazing food in some dumpy looking places before and besides, I was craving dumplings that day. One major mistake I made was not reading the reviews to this place more carefully. I was looking for an authentic Chinese place that served soup dumplings and I found a few reviews that mentioned soup dumplings but had I read more carefully, I would have seen that the reviewers wrote that they had soup dumplings but they didn't come with soup. I mean, what the hell, right? That's not a soup dumpling then. Why anyone would even use the word soup dumpling when it's not blows my mind. "Hey guys! Best pizza EVER! (but this pizza doesn't have cheese or tomato! It's just a piece of bread!)" Anyways, I was obviously disappointed to find out I wouldn't be eating soup dumplings but I went ahead and ordered pan-fried dumplings, beef pancake and some spicy beef pepper dish since a lot of people seemed to rave about those dishes. Gosh, PA must not have ANY good Chinese joints cause the beef pancake and spicy beef pepper dish were terrible. The beef pancake barely had any beef in it and the sauce and beef were cold. The beef in the spicy beef pepper dish had no flavor and was stale. The dumplings though, I will admit, were pretty good. They were like a hybrid in between dumplings you get at Chinese take-out places and Japanese gyoza. They were really good BUT the dipping sauce it came with really stunk. That had zero flavor too. I don't know. Just an all-around disappointment. I'm even more sad I wrote this many words for this review on a place I won't ever be visiting again. read more

We were craving good dumplings but didn't want to travel to Chinatown. Chong's fit our desires! This is a small restaurant nestled between small storefronts. As other reviews have said, it is clean but the decor is a bit old fashioned. Dumplings are excellent - we tried the soup dumplings and pork buns. Pretty good dumplings for a random place in PA and for a good price. Skin is a little thick for a boiled dumpling, but is fine for fried. It is a pretty good hole in the wall place similar to places you would find in flushing. Would get the pork buns and the beef dumpling again. A lot of negative reviews, but just don't order stupid American Chinese stuff and you won't be disappointed. Chong's Dumpling House is a staple for our family. Any time we don't want to cook, we head on over to this tiny restaurant. Don't be fooled by its plain appearance, the food is flavorful and fresh (and cheap to boot!). We always start off with the house pork buns. The meat inside is juicy, and the outside is fluffy. Other gems on the menu include the noodles with pork, shrimp, and egg drop in thick soup and the chicken in chili and lemongrass over rice. A great local joint for a quick bite to eat! Ever since I "found" this place, I have routinely visited. They make delicious dumplings. Very fresh. Not heated frozen fair at all. Whenever I take their Sheng1 Jian1 Bao1 (pan-fried meat dumplings wrapped in leavened dough) as my offerings to a party, people comment on how good they are and want to know where I got them. Their Suei3 Jiao3 (water dumplings) come in several flavors. I love the ones filled with leek and pork...yum. They also cook a delicious stir-fried fresh Hot Pepper with Beef. That dish tastes better than what Margaret Kuo's places can offer. Chong's kitchen will cook it to order - longer or shorter, to control the crunchiness of the julienned pepper; or they will add some ginger if you crave the ginger flavor and ask for it. You just don't get that kind of accommodation at other places. There is a nearby metered parking lot run by the municipality. Behind the restaurant there are a few free parking spaces. I agree that the owner has not shown interests in sprucing up the place. But they do keep it reasonably clean. I won't hesitate to eat there. read more

A better than average Chinese restaurant near the train tracks on the main drag in Lansdale (across from CVS). I haven't dined in, but they have online ordering (5 mile radius), which is convenient. However, delivery is a bit on the slow side, so count on at least 1 hr before you are chowing down on their tasty potstickers. read more

Only found this place because of Yelp, and I thank all the reviewers out there for the menu suggestions. Yes to the dumplings (especially the Pork/leek) and yes to the beef pancake (they are delicious). The Chinese food we ordered was mostly good, we liked the Sesame Chicken, Lo Mein, and Fried Rice. But the Pan Fried Noodle left something to be desired, it just smelled a little off and tasted funny. So we know now to avoid that and stick with the other items on the menu. If you are in the mood for Dumplings, I would recommend giving this place a try. If you are looking for Chinese, Chong's is decent but nothing more memorable than other quick Chinese restaurants in the area. We've been to Chong's many times over the years and I think it's time to write a review. First, let's talk about the dumplings. The typical dumplings are fine. They aren't spectacular, but they are better than the average dumplings you get at local places in the area. The soup dumplings (Shao Lung Bao) are nothing special. The flavor of the soup dumplings are fine, but they are missing the most important part - the soup. Granted, making soup dumplings is not easy, and for a suburban restaurant, it's fine. Second, the pan fried pork buns are really good. This is something that is not commonly found in Chinese restaurants outside of specialized restaurants. The pork buns are good, with the "bread" being very good with good mouth feel. The other food we've had including the stir fried Chinese Okra, Hot peppers with beef, and other dishes off the Chinese menu (menu is under the glass on the table) are all pretty good. I would highly recommend #20 which is a braised fish fillet with tofu in a clay pot with veggies. It's really good. The salt fish fried rice is also good. Overall, the decor is not very good. It's old and dated, and like others have said, does not appear to be the cleanest of places. That being said, I've eaten in places throughout Asia, including China in 1984 (Before modernization), so I'm not that squeamish. I would recommend this place, and I have. The food is hot, tasty, and plentiful, and the prices can't be beat. Service by the owners is acceptable to me. It's not a place for a large group, but for 4-8 people, they can accommodate you. Lunch in Lansdale is becoming more of a pleasure and less of a chore. Chong's Dumpling House makes the beef pancake - One of the greatest lunch items available in this area. Think of it as the Chinese version of a meat pie. It contains wonderfully braised meat, seasoning, scallion, and other deliciousness. It's cheap but heavy - Don't order this if you think you're on some sort of health kick. A word of warning - It's kinda big and probably best split amongst two people. Their dumplings are good. So I ordered online for delivery over an hour and 15 min ago . I called and was abruptly told it was on its way. Food eventually came. But I was pretty disappointed. Maybe its because I am used to great chinese takeout in the city. While the prices are good, the portions were small. The food itself was pretty tasteless. I ordered The Chili chicken and lemongrass. Its supposed to be hot and spicy, there was little to no heat, and they really overdid it with the lemon grass, it was overpowering. My son got the sesame chicken, again pretty blah .Nothing special and not very flavorful. The porkfried rice was also really bland. Hubs got the General Tso's, not much chicken, not spicy and overall ok. Also ordered friend wontons, which definitely were not the way I am used to. These tasted over fried, where I am used to a nice smooth wonton. The beef pancake was interesting. Reminded me of my grandparents for some reason. Maybe it was licorice I tasted?? Something was off. Amazing food. Took off a star for the run-down exterior of the restaurant. The inside is much better. I wouldn't judge the taste of the food by the appearance of the atmosphere; in Asia some of the best food is served by small street food stands. We have dined in before as well as ordered to pick up. The sweet family who owns the restaurant is Chinese and always chats to us as they bring our food. You have to know what to order!! Here are some dishes you absolutely must order: their fried beef pancake (very original and so so good), their fried Tianjing buns (the lacey thin crispy crust is supposed to be on these, its close to impossible to replicate a lacey crust on homemade varieties), and a spicy dish of beef sauteed with pepper ("XiaoJiaoNiu", which is delicious). Honestly at most Chinese restaurants that are more authentic than plain old sticky, sugary orange chicken, highly Americanized dishes like fried rice might not taste as good because these restaurants arent adding completely all of the starch, sugar, and oil that the more Americanized eateries do. It's all personal preference, but Id highly recommend stopping by or ordering out for a meal. You should try the three dishes I listed above, then try to compare those to other Chinese restaurants in the area. Spoiler alert: Dumpling House does it the best. Having grown up in NYC and north Jersey I feel like I can consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur of Chinese food served to Americans...In all honesty Chong's Dumpling House serves food that is deserving of high praise...It is just right in taste, appearance, quality and the speed with which it is produced is surprisingly fast...so glad they deliver! First time I went here at lunch with coworkers and loved it. The next 2 times I came back, it wasn't as good as I remembered it. The prices are really reasonable though. PROS: *Some items are quite good. *They do lunch specials and have seasonal items. *The tea is good. CONS: * It has a weird location though with difficult parking. * The interior is a bit too pink for my tastes. * Also, on occasion, there were flies. Overall: The food tastes decent and it is popular with Chinese people, so you know there's authentic flavors. In my opinion, if you are looking for a chip bite, its nice. I have been looking for a Lansdale dumpling house for a while but have avoided this place based on mixed reviews, however the craving for dumplings over took my skepticism. I ordered spring rolls and steamed pork and crab buns. The spring rolls were not bad (though a little over fried). The buns were not bad but were harder to eat than any other dumplings I have had maybe a little over steamed. What was frustrating was the service. The waitress was watching movies loudly on an iPad. No music. No ambiance and for a lunch rush I was the only one. This place has potential but it is missing the mark with table clothes and service. The food could use a little modernization but it is not the main problem. I will go back but I am not sure how often. read more

My daughter and I are regulars here, and I take my lunch group here regularly. We love their pork and leek dumplings (both boiled and pan fried). If you like noodles, try their meat sauce noodle or their lo mein. Many of the sauteed dish on the chinese menu (placed on the table, under the glass) are also worth trying. We continue to find dishes we like. Egg drop soup is not my daughter and mine favorite dish. Recently, I decided to try it, and found that their egg drop soup is not like other restaurants. It is loaded with egg threads and the soup base is very flavorful. My daughter, who loves their wonton soup, tried the egg drop and said she is getting that next time! I went to Chong's based on previous reviews; I have to agree with previous reviewers, the seating area could definitely use some sprucing up. I ordered the pork leek dumplings, beef pancakes, and scallion pancakes. The beef pancakes were my favorite; I'm sure it's a personal taste thing, but I was not impressed by the dumplings or the scallion pancakes. Very disappointed. Food was very bland. Sweet and sour chicken was over fried and dry and I had to discard pieces of it. Fried rice was ok. Lo mein was ok. Dumplings were ok. Kids liked dumplings. Nothing special. I did like the egg rolls and therefore the two stars. It took one hour and forty five minutes for delivery which is an hour longer than stated. When I called to see where my order was they said they were very busy. It was a Friday night so I can understand that. Maybe they were having a bad night but probably won't try again. read more
