Hubby ordered the Norway Tapas plate, which included brown toasted bread, dried cod fish fried balls, marinated crawfish, salad, sausage, and garlic mayo. The cod fish balls were amazing, and reminded me of croquettes from Spain. Hubby liked everything, but the sausage was just okay. I had the fish soup. The bowl is HUGE! And it is delicious! It's creamy, and contained large chunks of cod fish, crawfish, and carrot slices. For dessert, we shared the apple cake with ice cream, whipped cream, and caramel sauce. We liked the cake, but honestly we were a little let down, because that afternoon, we sampled the apple cake in the cafe of the Ålesund Aquarium. Surprisingly, the apple cake at the aquarium was way better, as the cake was a nice pound cake with lots of layered apples on top and in the cake. The apple cake at a Lyspunktet is lighter and doesn't contain that much apple. Overall though, great meal at Lyspunktet, highly recommend!

I love this cafe! As someone traveling from America to Norway, I appreciate this cafe having a wide…read morerange of syrup flavors, as well as iced coffee! There is also so much seating, tables and couches, and even some seating outside of the establishment as well. This is a great place to enjoy a cozy atmosphere, there are candles everywhere and cute decorations. The service is great as well, I have never had any barista here be rude to me as a foreigner and I really appreciate that. All in all, whether you're getting coffee to go, or sitting at the cafe, the experience is very hospitable :)

Food with a…read moreview Fjellstua Cafeteria is actually two restaurants, one is a fancy place up on top and the other is a casual café type of place on the bottom. I didn't buy anything in the fancy restaurant but the cafe area has the typical food that you would expect. What you probably won't expect are the prices. But this is Norway and until you get use to it just about everything is shocking expensive once you convert your dollars into Norwegian Krone. The restaurant wouldn't be anything special if it wasn't for the fact it's up on top of Aksla Mountain with stunning views in all directions. There is a road going up but the fun way is climbing the four hundred something steep steps that start from the Alesund City Park. Really cool the way the steps kind of meander up the side of the mountain, complete with little lookout platforms with transparent bottoms. Not really that difficult if you take your time and enjoy the views on the way up. Once on top there are bathrooms as well as the cafeteria and some hiking trails that go off in different directions. You can get something to eat and drink up on top but be prepared to pay for it. The real reason most people climb those stairs are the views from the top. And those are always free.

The Norwegian currency has devalued about 20% from last year as its currency is linked to oil/gas prices so it's good for tourists, for now in a volatile world where the only constant is change. They have WiFi and clean restrooms. They also have free tap water so Starbucks Southampton England take note (they charged me for a plastic cup of tap water there in Summer 2022 - they marked the cup H2O and they later apologised but it broke my being loyal to the brand.) On our first visit we sat at a cosy table and despite having lots of customers it was delightfully quiet. It was a first for us here, as upon ordering I was told that the wait for two cappuccino was 15 minutes and I was handed one of those electronic buzzers that I've only been given on cruise ships before now. The odd thing was that I was the only one at the counter ordering. Hey-ho we had nothing to do that day so we watched the world go by. On our second visit it was another cosy table and cappuccino again. We were also handed the ubiquitous buzzer and waited about 20 minutes again. This time we also shared a portion of tasty apple cake (more cake than apple) with ice cream and whipped cream. Certainly recommend this slow place.
