Oh no, they also provide health, beauty and relaxation treatments on pretty much the rest of you too. This is a small and comfortable spa/salon situated in the swish Pontcanna area of Cardiff, under a mile from the centre of town. It's a bit of a one-stop-shop for all your salon needs, as they have a massive variety of treatments to choose from. Facials, manicures, chiropody, reflexology, Indian head massage, ear piercing, hot stone massage, seaweed treatments, waxing... The staff here are very lovely and, importantly, well qualified in their fields of expertise. You really get the impression that they know what they're talking about, and that was only when I went in for a price list. They also have a range of products and gifts on sale, as well as vouchers available if you wanted to treat someone to a relaxing afternoon (or if you know someone with an uno-brow, who just won't take the hint.)

Makes you wonder whether your feet and face are in all the right places! But, of course, they offer a comprehensive beauty spa range including; facials and anti aging treatments right through to massage, inch loss and hair removal. To be honest this is not my kind of place. I'm all for health and beauty, don't get me wrong, but I'd prefer a different start point than is offered here. I like to begin at the beginning, starting with the inside before I attempt to do anything superficial. I find it saves money! For this reason I'm more likely to go to Gaia around the corner. It's not as flash as The Feet and Face Place, but it offers curative treatments as well as the purely cosmetic. It also provides Ayurvedic nutrition and lifestyle consultations, which deal with health and beauty on an essential level. One thing in their favour is that the The Feet and Face Place offer Reflexology, which certainly does work on a more profound level than their other treatments.

Positioned around the corner from The Feet and Face Place, which provides a plethora of treatments that deal with looking good on a pretty superficial basis, I have to admit preferring the Gaia approach to health and beauty. It's not as flash as The Feet and Face Place, but it offers curative treatments as well as the purely cosmetic. (One thing in their favour is that the The Feet and Face Place offer Reflexology, which certainly does work on a more profound level than their other treatments). The Gaia Lifestyle Centre in Pontcanna operates an appointment only system, (as does their other clinic). They do not provide a reception as such, and so bookings are made with the individual practioners. A full list is available on their well maintained website. www.gaialifestyle.com/

Ayurvedic massages are meant to be incorporated into part of an overall treatment programme, often also incorporating yoga and nutritional advice. The practitioner at Gaia starts off by having a consultation with you about your lifestyle and then goes on to suggest massage treatments, and offers advice about yoga practice and nutrition. What I am most keen to tell everyone about, however, is the divine Ayurvedic Shirodhara treatment available here. This is also known as the 'third eye drip', which sounds far less appealing than it actually is! Basically, you start off enjoying a face, neck and scalp massage, and then the practitioner sets off a flow of warm oil onto your third eye on your forehead, creating the most unbelievable feeling of relaxation and peacefulness. I would actually go as far as to say this treatment totally transports you elsewhere, inducing a kind of dream like state without actually sending you to sleep. I can't recommend it highly enough, based on my own experiences!

I really like Aveda's weirdly earthy, woody fragrances - and their products are more natural than most used in salons, with up to 95% natural ingredients, according to my stylist. Even the colour is up to 99% naturally derived, so it's less damaging to your hair. The staff seem to be proud to work here, and the salon itself is a relaxing environment in which to spend an hour or so. Some of their stylists specialise in hair for weddings, balls or big nights out - and many have worked as stylists on TV and film productions. They also offer little extras such as free fringe trims between cuts, which is great for regulars. Good city centre salon using more natural products than most - and they even offer a 10% student discount with a valid NUS card.

Since they had a great special deal on it turned out to be great value for money. There were 14 different spa treatment rooms offering up the usual sorts of massage and facials, and then there was also a beautiful pool area where we could all get together and spend hours catching up, and a bar not too far away!! The room itself was really spacious and comfy and clean and all the staff seems genuinely happy to offer any help they could. The second time I was there, I was working on a film shoot and we were filming up in the penthouse. I've been to meetings there, and to the spa and pool area, all of which is very modern. The heated indoor swimming pool's ceiling feels quite low, which I felt made it seem a tiny bit claustrophobic - but with sleek lines and the walls painted white, I think they've probably made the best use of the space they had available. The pool and changing areas were very clean, and this seemed to be the same story throughout the hotel's public spaces - all in all this hotel seems to have high standards and good facilities as well as a top location.

*NOT INCLUDED ON THEIR WEBSITE*…read more My hair was getting far too long. When I want styling, I usually go to pricier salons - have tried Guy Christian, Ken Picton, and Hair Bauhaus previously which are all around the same price range. However, on this occasion I didn't want any styling. I just wanted a straight chop shorter. No layering, nothing. I saw on their website that this would set me back £16 for a basic haircut no wash or styling. So I washed it myself that morning and headed off hoping for a quick in-and-out. When I got there, I found out that taking more than an inch off means that I have to pay the additional styling prices along with getting my hair washed (again). This starts at £22.95 on their website. Because my hair was long, even though I only wanted about 4 inches off and a straight cut (as I said numerous times) they charged me £35. I'm not a hairdresser, so maybe there was a good reason why just having long hair (even though the styling is not complex) is an additional £13 so if someone can enlighten me that would be great because I just feel ripped off. Cons: - The hairwashing station was very uncomfortable. Their headrests really dig into the neck. At other salons I could virtually fall asleep when getting my hair washed but I found myself massaging my sore neck afterwards and counting the seconds during the whole thing. - The hidden additional charges that you don't find out about until you get there Pros: - Granted it was a very simple request, but the woman who cut my hair did a fine job and I got exactly as I asked for. It was a straight cut and everything was lined up fine so I got wanted I wanted. --- Overall, I would come to Supercuts again for anything simple. However, if you have long hair like me and wanted anything styled, I would pay the extra £20 to go to a more expensive salon and actually have an enjoyable experience.
