This is a cute cafe in Canterbury. Given its location, its really not that touristy.
ORDER: chocolate crepe; mixed green salad; Bailey's coffee
AVOID: the bread plate; scones; eating here in a hurry
We visited this cafe after our trip to Canterbury Cathedral upon the recommendation of a local. Luckily, there were two small tables next to each other allowing my party of five to sit close to each other - there are no big tables. At first glance, I wanted to try the Belgian Waffle with Chocolate being that it was called the "Chocolate Cafe," but the waffles are pre-made and not fresh at all, so I elected to order the cream tea. Their cream tea comes with two scones with sultanas in them and a pot of tea as well as strawberry jam and clotted cream. The scones were cool and dry, and the jam was gummy and lacked strawberries... I would not get these again. The bread plate was equally disappointing. There were supposedly several different types of breads, but they all tasted the same, i.e. all dry and flavorless. The bread was served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
The by-far best item was the freshly made crepe with belgian chocolate melted in it, The crepe was a very nice texture, and the chocolate was truly high quality chocolate. My friend greatly enjoyed her latte. The Bailey's coffees were also quite good.
I would come back just to have that amazing chocolate crepe again! read more
