A very reliable place for morning pastries near our hotel. Such an overwhelming amount of options that even after 4 mornings it felt there was still more to try. The main categories seem to be fancy sweet pastries, flaky Greek-style pastries and baguette sandwiches. The fancy sweet pastries were definitely the highlight, but everything was good.
Pistazien Creme Kuchen: Perhaps one of my favorites here, the pistachio paste was creamy and sweet and had that nice candied pistachio taste. Nice texture too, that's firm while being a little pasty.
Banoffe Tarte: Very creamy underneath that chocolate shell. Nice little bit of caramel or something in the middle.
Wurst Pita: Like a sausage roll, but in that oversized flaky buttery phyllo. Kinda messy as the pastry flakes everywhere. And maybe a tad dry, could have really benefitted from some ketchup or mustard inside.
Black Forest: Loved the strong cherry flavors againt the intense chocolate. Very creamy, so not quite a cake.
Baguette Shinken Gouda: A ham and cheese sandwich just hits right no matter what time of day it is. The baguette was shaped like a baguette, but wasn't as chewy like a typical French baguette. More texture like a crusty roll.
Maxi Butter Croissant: Pretty standard. Crusty and buttery and flaky.
Aprel Kuchen: It was like a having the inside of an apple pie layered between fluffy cake sheets. Plus some caramel sauce. Really enjoyed all the flavors and textures.
Schinken Gouda Bechamel Pita: This was the phyllo vesion of ham and cheese. The inside was warm and creamy with big chunks of ham. Perfect against the flaky outside pastry dough. Wasn't dry at all with the pairing.
Baguette Salami Peperoni Parmigiano: A little fattier than the ham and cheese option, with some more spices too. Kinda felt like a light version of an Italian sandwich.
Red Velvet Kuchen: This is nothing like the American version of Red Velvet cake, but that's ok. It does have red colored cake layers, but the strong raspberry jam and sweet creamy frosting in the middle is unique and very delicious. I keep getting impressed by the cake options here.
Ekmele Kadaif Cup: Seemed like a bunch of Greek flaky dough with creamy filling in a cup. Maybe a slight taste of honey. It was tasty, but not as complex as the other desserts.
Carrot Kuchen: Ok, this was one was very much like the comforting carrot cake that I'm used to in America. Creamy frosting and spiced cake. Very nice.
Maracuja Vollmich Törtchen: Another fancy delicate mousse dessert. Intense passionfruit behind the light white chocolate shell. Kinda small compared to many other options, but so tasty.
Baurenbrot Mediterranean Sandwich: Hearty brown bread pairs nicely against the tangy feta. I also appreciate the marinade, which had capers, soaking into the bread and making it very flavorful. read more
