Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem in Nottingham is a really fun and memorable spot that earns a solid four…read morestars for the overall experience. This place absolutely nails the spooky, historic ambience and that alone makes it worth the visit. Built into the rock and filled with low ceilings, uneven floors, and centuries of history, it genuinely feels like stepping back in time. Every corner has character and a slightly eerie charm that adds to the experience rather than taking away from it. The ambience is easily the highlight here. From the dim lighting to the old stone walls and hidden nooks, it feels authentic and atmospheric without trying too hard. It is the kind of place where you want to slow down, look around, and soak it all in. If you appreciate history or enjoy places with a bit of mystery and legend behind them, this pub delivers in a big way. Service was good overall but not outstanding. Staff were friendly and helpful, though things moved at a relaxed pace, especially when it got busy. Orders were correct and everyone was polite, but there were moments where service felt just okay rather than exceptional. That said, the staff fit the vibe of the place well and were happy to answer questions about the history, which added to the experience. Drinks were solid and what you would expect from a historic pub. Nothing mind blowing, but enjoyable and well poured. The food was decent and satisfying, fitting the traditional pub feel, even if it did not completely steal the show. Overall Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is a place you go for the atmosphere and history first, with good service and an enjoyable experience rounding it out. It is not perfect, but it is unique, memorable, and absolutely worth a visit when in Nottingham. Four stars for a spooky, historic pub that delivers charm and character in spades.

Recommended by a friend in Ohio, and what a recommendation! I had lunch after touring Nottingham…read moreCastle, which I would recommend as Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is in a cave under the castle. Like all structures of this era, the ceilings are quite low and the stairs and rooms are quite twisty and full of surprises. The staff was so nice and efficient. I ordered at the bar downstairs and had my meal delivered to a table on the next floor (see video). I've taken many trips to the UK, and frequented many establishments with signs claiming the "world's best fish and chips.". The fish was amazing and perfectly prepared. The chips were not greasy at all, and very flavorful. The highlight was the fresh peas! Bursting with flavor. I rate the fish and chips second only to the Mayfair Chippy in London, however, the ambiance and experience takes it over the top even if you're only slopping by for a pint.

I went here on a Saturday lunchtime, at a time when i'd been trying to decide where to eat for some…read moretime, so I thought 'why not?'. We were seated promptly, and a drinks order taken. After mulling over the menu, two of us ordered burritos. One beef, one vegetable. When they arrived, I wondered where the rest of it was. The burrito was served in a dish, with nothing else in it. The burrito itself contained a little meat, a little rice, a little refried beans...and drizzled on top was some tomato sauce and some sour cream. Now, i'm used to ordering a dish like this, and having the burrito come with rice, beans, and maybe salad on the side. This 'all in one' effort was a poor substitute. To pay around £10 for this one item of food represented very poor value indeed. The very small complimentary dish of tortilla chips presented to us while awaiting our main courses did not make up for this. We left after eating, feeling ripped off, disappointed and still slightly hungry. Trust me folks, if you fancy Mexican / Latin style food, give this place a miss and head straight for a branch of Las Iguanas if there is one in town. I never thought i'd say that, as I never deemed Iguanas to be the cheapest of places, but in my opinion you do get what you pay for, unlike Chiquito. I have just been on the Chiquito website and noted that they do a lunch menu which looks like it offers better value...however, this is not available at the weekend. Perhaps that explains why we were one of only 3 tables of people in the whole place, on a day that thousands of hungry people are in town looking for somewhere to eat. If anyone from Chiquito reads this, please tell your leaders to see common sense; you'll gain a hell of a lot more custom if you extend your lunch menu to weekends, and if you also show a bit more generosity by giving a dollop of rice and beans as a side with most main dishes. The only positive thing about the visit was the service, which was prompt and friendly...unfortunately it doesn't really matter how quickly and pleasantly a bad meal is served to you.

They definitely need to get new chefs. The food isn't hot when served and it isn't authentic…read moreMexican. No restaurant works without a good chef. The ambience is good and cozy. The food needs to be looked into as well as the menu. I don't think the staff look like they believe in the food quality themselves. It would help if they focussed on the quality.
