I went here on a Saturday lunchtime, at a time when i'd been trying to decide where to eat for some time, so I thought 'why not?'.
We were seated promptly, and a drinks order taken. After mulling over the menu, two of us ordered burritos. One beef, one vegetable. When they arrived, I wondered where the rest of it was. The burrito was served in a dish, with nothing else in it. The burrito itself contained a little meat, a little rice, a little refried beans...and drizzled on top was some tomato sauce and some sour cream. Now, i'm used to ordering a dish like this, and having the burrito come with rice, beans, and maybe salad on the side. This 'all in one' effort was a poor substitute. To pay around £10 for this one item of food represented very poor value indeed.
The very small complimentary dish of tortilla chips presented to us while awaiting our main courses did not make up for this. We left after eating, feeling ripped off, disappointed and still slightly hungry. Trust me folks, if you fancy Mexican / Latin style food, give this place a miss and head straight for a branch of Las Iguanas if there is one in town. I never thought i'd say that, as I never deemed Iguanas to be the cheapest of places, but in my opinion you do get what you pay for, unlike Chiquito.
I have just been on the Chiquito website and noted that they do a lunch menu which looks like it offers better value...however, this is not available at the weekend. Perhaps that explains why we were one of only 3 tables of people in the whole place, on a day that thousands of hungry people are in town looking for somewhere to eat. If anyone from Chiquito reads this, please tell your leaders to see common sense; you'll gain a hell of a lot more custom if you extend your lunch menu to weekends, and if you also show a bit more generosity by giving a dollop of rice and beans as a side with most main dishes.
The only positive thing about the visit was the service, which was prompt and friendly...unfortunately it doesn't really matter how quickly and pleasantly a bad meal is served to you. read more
