I really enjoyed my food from here. They have a couple of tables but mostly do takeaway. The pakora is especially good!

Super quick and fabulous staff. The food is rather... bland and uninspiring, but a quick fix for hunger.

Their fish tandoori was incredible. The fish was so tender and cooked perfectly. The texture was just right and the green sauce it came with made it that much better. I was pleasantly surprised that it was a bit spicy as well. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala, Indian medium spicy and it was just the right amount of spicy for me. The chicken was soft and tender and the curry sauce itself was very flavorful. It came with a good portion of rice and I had the garlic cheese naan on the side. I drove an hour out of my way on my road trip because I was craving Indian food, and this place definitely did not disappoint. I will stop by again for sure when I am back in the area. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They have awesome music videos playing which adds to the overall atmosphere. The restaurant is decorated very tastefully and the bathrooms were nice and clean. Overall I recommend Sangam Indian Cuisine for anyone craving delicious Indian food like I was!

Great selection of chutneys to go with poppadoms to start and a very good wine list from NZ, including a delicious local Gewurtztraminer which was great with spicy food. A happy find in Whitianga!

Worst Indian restaurant experience in new zealand. Mainly attributed to the incompetence of…read moremanagement more than the food. They were clearly not equipped to handle the large amount of crowd coming in but the manager was not precise on the delay it would take for food or handling the crowed. Even after placing order and being told it would be 30 min wait, we ended up waiting for more than an hour, and this was because the manager didn't communicate the sequence in which each table's order was taken, thus other tables were served first. The rest of the staff seemed much more smart and were handling the situation very well which the manager we just busy taking to go orders. I saw more than one table just getting up and leaving from there after waiting a while. The food itself was okay, nothing special. Wouldn't recommend the place unless you are ready to wait it out.

I am amazed at variety of choices , we took good time to savor the menu itself(~8pages). We ordered Bajra roti, Rajasthani Kadhi, Paneer Lavabdar , Masala papad, Manchow soup, and butter roti. Quantity of entrees is meant to be shared by at least 2 adults. Soup serving is good for 1adult . I can't imagine how splitting 1/2 would satisfy an adult. Bajra roti was served with gud (jaggery). Paneer, I felt was too dry or precooked and barely simmered in sauce to soften up. Wait staff and kitchen staff is limited , so be prepared to wait at least 20mins for each item(as mentioned on menu). And that's why I reserve the remaining . They do have pool table to entertain. Best bet would be to order take away and eat at your hotel/outside/home. Plenty of seating spaces.

In any event, I wouldn't recommend this place for a romantic date night or any other such occasion where you are looking for atmosphere (in addition to good food). Clearly, there was no professional decorator put to work in this place. However, if you can get past the mundane decor, the food was actually really good. We started with veggie samosas, which were warm and cripsy with a tasty tamarind dipping sauce. I also ordered up a mango lassi, because it was really hot outside and I wanted something cool and refreshing to drink. It was a little thicker consistency than ones I've had in the past, but it did not disappoint me. I had the dal fry, medium spicy. It was delicious and spiced just right. My husband asked for chicken vindaloo, "hot spicy." The server asked, "Indian spicy?" and my husband said, "Yes." Now, usually, he is still disappointed with the level of heat. However, he commented over and over that this vindaloo was "just right" in spice level and really tasty. I am not an eater of food that spicy, and he tells me sometimes restaurants over spice at the expense of flavor. This was not the case here. We will definitely come back here. Again, not for an special occasion, but when we're in the mood for good Indian food.

I simply ordered a two meat combo dinner for $16.50 NZD, and was pretty much satisfied. Being famished after visiting the Waitomo Caves and Hobbiton, I needed some meat! The manager welcomed us and served up some thick slices of roasted pork, with the appropriate salty crispy pig skin, and lamb. It sat on top of potatoes, pumpkin, and peas. Applesauce and a lemon glaze gravy on the side. Maybe it was a "so hungry, it tastes so damn good" feeling, but it wasn't. The meat was well roasted, some fatty, and tender. Probably seasoned only with salt, which was good enough to me. Items on the menu: ~ Roast Dinner Plates (beef, pork, chicken, lamb, or vegetarian). ~ Southern Fried Chicken Combos. Though I've seen better looking chicken elsewhere. ~ Rolls served up banh mi style, or meat in a regular sandwich. ~ Burgers with your choice of meat. ~ Fish and chips, hot dogs. ~ Milkshakes and cheese cake. Inside dining: ~ Nothing special, just a few tables. Normally, I'd give a place like this a three star rating, but with the little choices you have in the area I'm generously giving a fourth star. And with seeing people coming and going, it appears to be a hit with the locals.
